Hawkins has terrible handles right now.

I like his hustle on d lately and he was unlucky his threes weren’t falling yesterday but Polley is definitely contributing more at this point, easy decision for the second half.
By what metric is Polley contributing more? That’s not saying he shouldn’t play but he’s only contributing, not more

We as a team played terrible last night but enough to win. That should speak volumes for our team. Regarding Hawk what I don't like when he comes into the game is that he does not let the game come to him. His 1st touch is normally jacking up a shot, he needs to learn to just get into the flow of the game. He will be our go to guard in time.

How’d he do against Georgetown 5 days ago, doesn’t that count?
Even if you count Georgetown over the past 5 games he’s hitting 20% of his three’s, if you don’t count Georgetown, he was only hitting 11% over the other 4 games. Much earlier in the season the kid was more or less automatic. One thing I haven’t been able to find are his stats from the corners vs the rest of the perimeter.

This whole debate with Hawkins’ playing time wouldn’t be an issue if our upperclassmen would contribute like they should
Even when his three point shot is off, he definitely contributes and scores in other ways.

We are 15 - 4. Who are these upper classmen who aren't contributing? I guess you can argue Gaffney.

The kid is going to be a stud player for us. He’s a freshman who is still learning the in and outs of college basketball and will be a lights out shooter once his days at UConn are over.

He has more than likely never played in any opposing gyms/arenas. Familiarity to that gyms background, seat depths, ceiling heights and opponents players does factor in on a players shooting.
He is shooting approx. 43% in home games and approx. 23% in away or neutral court games and is the only freshman getting regular playing time.

He needs to play and I have no problem overall with how Hurley is allocating his game minutes.

He's scoring more. He's rebounding better than Hawkins. Their defense is about even, slight edge to Polley. Some nice dimes by Hawkins the other night but neither is really a creator. Polley's handle is fine, Hawkins right now is a guard who can't be trusted to dribble.

Hawkins is the future and has great potential. Polley has shown he can singlehandedly swing games with his shooting and, this year, he's starting to raise the floor of his game a little too. It's a balancing act for DH to get Hawkins blooded and still win games now.

Polley, right now, is the better option. He knows what he is in this offense and he's got a little confidence (I don't see him hitting that pull up 15 footer before this year). If the light fully switches on with Hawkins before the end of the season (hopefully) maybe the amount of minutes they play switches.

OOOPS!! I think I posted their overall numbers

HERE are their Big East numbers, 8 games:

Polley - 19.4 minutes, 6.9 points, 40.9% fg, 36% 3fg, 4.5 3 points apg, 1.4 rebounds

Hawkins - 11.4 minutes, 4.8 points, 34.3% fg, 39% 3fg, 3.0 3point apg, 0.9 rebounds

Gaffney - 10.5 minutes, 2.1 points, 21.1% fg, 0.00% 3fg (hasn't made a 3 against anyone in the power 6 plus st bonnies and vcu), 4.0 3point apg, .09 rebounds

He has gotten much better and last game he had several nice dimes. If he had hit a few of those open threes then he would get more minutes. I glad he is on our team.
He has to take those shots. Good looks and very close rim outs. Getting lost on defense and stripped on his handle limits his minutes.

What he did 5 days ago does nothing for UConn during current game. Frankly if he’s not knocking down up shots he brings nothing to the table.

Both of his missed 3pt shots were halfway down but missed. His game is fine for a freshman, just hoping his eye/head is fine. We'll need him to contribute in our upcoming gauntlet portion of the schedule.
Almost only counts in horseshoes, hand grenade tossing*, and H bomb dropping!

On the road trying to wrangle an opponent who is being troublesome. Hawkins shot wasn't falling, even with really clean looks. Polley is 6-9 /200 to JH being 6-5/175 and is more experienced on the defensive end, and defense is how the game last night was won. But in the glass half full department, if both Hawkins and Polley are on, UCONN can beat any team in the nation.
