Who said it was.

1. Stop ignoring these people created the problem in the first place
2. Herbst already quit

If one wants to say screw Ollie he sucked let’s find any way in the world to not pay him - that is fine - just own it.

Stop pretending it’s about violations.

Stop pretending that the way they went about it isn’t ridiculously slimy.

Stop trying to nail Ollie while giving a pass to the people who created the issues in the first place.

I actually respect anyone who says - I don’t want him to have the money and I don’t care how far they are willing to go to not pay him.

It's not "slimy" when the contract can have a barge sailed through the loophole in play. Maybe the contract was a bit off, but given the circumstances (APR, etc), it wasn't out of line. It was even lauded at the time, given KO's track record of being generally stand-up.

The loophole ended up being an albatross, and now KO's lawyers are claiming it's unenforceable. THAT's slimy!

LOL it’s not slimy to put the program in the NCAA’s crosshairs by enlisting a rat to cover up your own personal ineptness in running the athletic department?

We got it the first 100 times. You don’t care how unethical the admins act as long as Ollie doesn’t get his money.

Stop pretending it’s anything else.

...as opposed to your unending hate of Herbst? You're approaching "flipping the bird at the union lawn mower" level here.

There is nothing unethical about enforcing a contract. Writing it that way, maybe, but not under the circumstances at the time.

Trying to back out of a contract is the definition of unethical.

Yeah that’s all they did. Enforce a contract.

Good take - LOL.

Beware the former fired disgruntled employee.

For those celebrating Glenn Miller for being a rat. Consider that he likely did so with the consent of Jim Calhoun as JC hired him after this. Also consider Calhoun's words and actions toward Ollie in the last year. The problem now however is that UConn has another former fired disgruntled employee (KO). With the school's hardball actions and those of GM and JC, Ollie may now feel free to repay them in kind and rat them all out. There are sure to be plenty of things Calhoun and UConn will not want made public. This could easily and quickly get much nastier. In hindsight, paying KO the 10M to go away and stay silent may actually have been the best option back in March.
Oh look, another member of the Ollie family. Go to hell and bring Kathy and javjudah with you.

Are you an idiot or an arshole? It has to be one or the other because you keep saying stuff that just isn't true. No one is saying he was fired for the violations.

He was fired because he stopped doing his job and started sucking.

He was fired for sucking!

He was fired for sucking!!!

Happy?

People are arguing against him winning the full buyout because of the violations. The violations are why he will lose. WE ALL KNOW THAT THE UNIVERSITY IS USING THE VIOLATIONS TO AVOID PAYING HIM THE FULL 10 MILL AFTER FIRING HIM! And, yes, we are ok with it because he stopped doing his job and, therefore, deserves nothing. We are lucky that our negligent and potentially incompetent coach shot himself in the foot.

I just lit your strawman on fire. Now tell us why you think KO deserves the 10 MILL, which is what you really want to see.

You admitted that what I said is true.

You are willing to give the admistration and Calhoun/Miller a pass for their actions because you don’t want to pay him.

Wow you really burned that to the ground.

I don’t much care how much Ollie gets of the 10 million - I was on the Ollie sucks train long before most of y’all (especially you).

I just don’t think the inept leadership should continue to get passes for their ongoing failure. Sorry, not sorry.

That's kind of his point. Everyone is on here calling GM a rat, and ignoring that the admin here is just as, if not more "weasel-ish". It's not that paying the $10m is a good strategy, it's that the way they went about it stinks. And their motivation is solely trying to cover their own asses.
You understand that Ollie isn't owed this money under the contract terms, right? That is clear at this point. Are you suggesting that a Connecticut official should pay $10M to someone even though it is not owed? Wouldn't that be grounds for firing? It might even be criminal.

Interesting, I guess, but it overlooks the critical detail that Ollie isn't owed the money under the contract.

UConn gave Ollie notice exactly as required by the CBA and Ollie contract. You keep pounding away trying to make this a moral issue, as if it is somehow more noble to give someone $10M that they are not legally entitled to. That position makes zero sense. Ollie and UConn agreed on the terms of his employment and the circumstances under which it can terminate. Ollie breached the terms of his contact. The agreed upon remedy for that reach is termination of the contract. That was the parties express written agreement. Isn't a bit presumptuous for us to now say, well yes, they agreed that but we're going to rewrite the terms just because?

well that is right, isnt it? UConn cant afford the buyout.

Isnt that what this whole mess is about?
Not so much. It is about Ollie wanting to get paid money that he is not entitled to because he breached the agreement by violating NCAA rules.

Just Curious. How does someone with the handle Paesano feel about Rats?

Then you are saying that if there weren't any violations UConn could afford the 10 million dollar buyout to fire him for poor performance. Is that your contention?

He even couched it by "and I gain--it's not--I don't have the facts...". Seriously? 'I have no idea but....here's a juicy rumor, NCAA.'

I know it’s being transcribed, but you hardly make out what happened in 3 paragraphs with all his phumphering around.

Seeds were planted when Ollie was forced on the university. Then the perfect storm developed when Ollie actually won a championship and then went on vacation.

This situation is ugly and no one will come out looking good. Blame can be placed at a lot of feet and I don't feel bad for anybody. Disgust is what I feel most of all.

Your question is kind of silly. Yes, it is my 'contention' (love when you try to sound all tv lawyery) UConn has more that $10M of assets.

You're really good at playing dumb, starting to think it isn't an act.

Do you think UConn wouldve paid Ollie 10 million dollars to fire him for performance?

Yes or no?

lets get you on record to.

Lol at 1) "on record" that's just adorable and
2) that you think the fact that UConn has more than $10M in assets is your Mattlock moment.

I'm not playing your stupid games. Saying they can't afford 10 mil. and then calling it chump change is incompatible.

My comment should have said "isn't" not "is" . No, I'm not saying he's owed it or should be paid.

I'm saying the admin aren't the heroes in this and are scummy in their own right. Something many people are too happy to ignore while they slam GM 's morals

Its not mutually exclusive. His performance sucked and he broke the terms of the contract he signed. Don’t suck if you want leeway.

All Ollie had to do was not break some dumb rules and he’d be ironclad in his case for the full $10 mil.

I'd say the attempt to overlay heroic or scumminess on this is a mistake. It is simply following the agreement of the parties as memorialized in writing.
