The November 2016 extension was 100% on Benedict.

I thought it was 2015, but you’re right. On Benedict. I got confused w the fabulous Diaco extension, which wasn’t earned

That one was also Benedict. I have it on very good authority that there was no extension on the table when Warde left.

Calhoun's coach at AIC was also the manager of a club I worked at in college. He told me a story about Calhoun getting mugged by a couple guys while in Boston - "all three ended up in the ER, and Jim still had his wallet."

No idea if it's true, but it does sound like JC.

I think Calhoun recounted that incident in his book "Dare To Dream".

This isn't absolving Ollie of blame.

It's holding a scumbag rat accountable for his own actions.
GM has been undermining KO and the program well before he was fired.

He was jealous of KO getting the head coaching position and then the huge contract. He sabotaged KO with the players and leaked innuendos about KO that circulated in this forum.

Like you I’m not absolving KO. He did things that contributed to the dismal seasons and gave Miller cover but imm Miller and Benedict played bigger roles in the downward spiral of the program.

That's a pretty definitive statement. Any proof of that?

Riddle me this folks.

If David Benedict cares so deeply for these major transgressions...

When he was COO of the Auburn athletic department they hired BRUCE PEARL?

So please for the love of God stop pretending this is about violations.
Hope this doesn't crack your moral compass. It's sad but true, appearances are everything. That goes for Jim Calhoun, John Calipari, as well as Rick Pitino and Kevin Ollie. The rumor I heard was that Pearl got the Auburn job because everyone was so impressed by his white buck shoes.

UConn had to find NCAA infractions, but not any that would trigger sanctions against Hurley's teams. Tricky tightrope to walk.

Exactly, don't think for a minute that there aren't more serious recruiting violations that the school could have used against Ollie. It was even leaked that they chose not to go after a $30,000 payout to a player because they couldn't "prove" it. They needed to find "just cause" while not setting the program back any farther.

I agree regarding Miller, but I honestly think KO was clueless about it until 2016.
You notice he also tried to take Chill down through sheer speculation. Of course, Chill replaced Miller as Associative Head Coach.

Did I really read “Rat” in this discussion?

If so that is comical - this isn’t one of the 5 families or some other crime syndicate or some goofy elementary school playground.

Rules were being broken and Miller answered questions he was asked. Ollie should have been smart enough to (1) not break rules when the contract was zero tolerance (2) not get a divorce from the guy if he knows where the bodies are buried.

The fact remains that Ollie was woefully under qualified for the job that JC handed him and that revealed itself after a few years.

Scumbag. Cheese eating rat.

No doubt

And lol at your notion that the NCAA isn’t a crime syndicate. Why is the FBI involved?

Uh, if they were trying to find sufficient cause to fire Ollie but nothing so serious as to set the program back why in god's name would they "leak" rumors of a much more serious violation? That makes zero sense. You gotta at least keep the cloak and dagger theories consistent.

It’s fine to root for the school to keep the money. Just be honest about it and don’t pretend the ‘violations’ aren’t a joke.

Herbst destroyed the athletic department and people give her a free pass. I’m baffled by it - but in time people will come around - same as all the other scrubs she hired and employed - Warde, PP, Diaco, Ollie... someday many will come to their senses.

I am of the opinion that both are true - the violations are not a joke, and Herbst ruined the Athletic Department.

You got me to the latter but your arguments to the former are not quite as strong.
