Clearly, many people that know anything about soccer give a crap about today's version of the Cosmos. In contrast, people that don't know squat may still think there's something special about the Cosmos. Capiche?

No. They were still the biggest brand name in the NASL. They will give Hartford City a little bump.

Glad to see that Jacksonville, Miami and New York kept their B Teams going.

Unquestionably, a quantitatively solid argument supported by an undeniably strong league, massive attendance, and untold marketing and financial expertise.

It was a undeniably strong league with great attendance up until MLS Expansion gained traction. Players and staff were paid more and the league raised the bar for what a lower division league ought to look like.

Minnesota moved up, San Antonio was sold to the Spurs and teams sought alignment with MLS in the USL since the strong clubs always had high aspirations. Those moves triggered the avalanche and the USSF didn’t do them any meaningful favors.

Yup, but that was then and now is now. The point was and remains, the then "biggest brand name in the NASL" is of comparably marginal marketing and financial value today.

I bet you they get an attendance bump. You don’t think they will?

Perhaps a limited bump on typically negligible attendance, but re-focusing on the original point [note: the parenthetical "don't" was previously intended to be included in the cited prior message]:

Just stop. The Cosmos probably still have a bigger brand name globally than any MLS team. There is a reason why they attracted foreign investment back in the day.

Those old NASL team names have a value. The Earthquakes, Sounders, Timbers etc.

They will get a bump, The Cosmos, Armada and Miami FC have raised the level of professionalism this season in the NPSL. I really hope they can get a new league off the ground with Detroit, Hartford and Chattanooga next season.

Funny, I was wondering how long you'd continue with a quantitatively unsubstantiated, current Cosmos' perspective, i.e., current marketing/brand and financial/accounting value. Well, it's New Britski. Maybe the unknowing show up in massive #s; sincerely hope so for those who give a hoot about the league and New Britain franchise. With that, we can agree to disagree and carry on with your Cosmos' opinion versus actual quantitative facts.

They have enough cache to lure in someone to waste 20M every few years.

MLS tried to buy it before Rocco did for 10M just to make it go away.

There’s your substance. And in non convoluted English too.

Enlightening news flash, some filthy rich egos waste pocket change. Barring a wash, rinse, cycle again with another franchise sale strategy (sustainable?), the ongoing diminishing brand's year-end accounting, minimal profits to losses, and MLS will eventually trump the boy toy sale model.

Hey, maybe the currently nothing Cosmos experience shockingly massive increases in paid attendance, merchandise sales, online &/or TV viewership revenues, etc.
NPSL: Wouldn't even invest your bucks in a venture depending on Detroit, Miami 1/2, borderline major league Jacksonville, and minor league Chattanooga and Hartford (no ill intent Insurance City locals).

Yes, the 1970s' NASL names with value continue as MLS' San Jose, Seattle, and Portland franchises. An unnamed "etc."? Nyet, at least now. However, MLS Orlando and MLS Miami won out over one name/city (Rowdies/Tampa Bay) MLS found less attractive (population, demographics, couldn't get act together?).

You have your view. We won't agree. Unusually, we're able to keep it reasonably civil. (how's that happen on the 'yard?) ;)

Elm City was crushed 5-0 by Cosmos B.

Meanwhile Rocco Comisso is looking at purchasing AC Milan now that the USSF declined his 500M offer. Good thing that American capital will be invested in the game in another country...

Drunkard Kraft owes us. He's partially to blame for losing the Whalers and 100% to blame for the Patriots debacle .

A friend of mine just found this, so I guess we really don't have to wait until Wednesday to find out what is going on with the new USL team.

all things HCFC are lacking

Ain't that the truth.

I had HCFC season tickets last year, and only went to a couple of games this year. Outside of their own social media, this team's presence is non-existent. Day of game experience is incredibly lacking, and always felt like a "last minute" project. Attendance this season was noticeable down. I think I left one game last year because I was hungry, and they didn't have any concessions available.

The gossip I have heard is none of the players and employees are paid, therefore this is essentially a "side hustle" for everyone involved. Unfortunately it showed. I do think there is a market for an amateur/semi-pro team in New Britain, although the Sarwar Family would have to swallow quite a bit of pride to make that happen (i.e. re-brand and accept New Britain is their home).

Hartford is long overdue for a pro team in town, and it seems the USL group has the capital and fortitude to make a real effort out of it. I think the USL team will be as successful as the Yard Goats have been. Hopefully HCFC can find a path forward, because I do not see them being able to compete with a professional team in this market.

What I heard from a father of one of the HCFC player's is that the affiliation will be minimal. He said the Revs would loan only a couple players to the USL team. I don't know if that's normal or true, just passing it along.

The whole New Britain thing is overblown. If you're railing on about that why not complain about the 'New York' Jets & Giants playing in New Jersey? Such a non-issue.

And yes, the players aren't paid - they play to stay in shape and accrue game film. That's how the NPSL operates. If you want something to really complain about go bark at Elm City for not honoring their championship bonus they told the players they'd receive. They actually stiffed players - not HCFC. That is why their roster had so much turn-over.

I should note as well the parent I spoke with had nothing but good things to say about Sarwar. He said the players like him and he hosts them at his restaurants and gives them meals/drinks for free among other things.

If it is just an affiliation then it will be exactly as you described.

It would be better to be affiliated with NYCFC who doesn’t have absentee landlord affiliation.

The Revs are a total joke of an organization.

What part of “semi professional” do you not understand?

If Hartford were actually thinking big then they would lease the stadium to HCFC as well.

As well? I wouldn't be surprised if Hartford and the new team make HCFC change their name just so people don't get confused, or buy tickets to the wrong place. I still think it's silly to have a team call itself "Hartford" when they never played a game in the city, and are playing over ten miles away from it. Also, HCFC isn't professional or even semi-professional because the players aren't getting paid. They're more of a club team than anything else at this point. Maybe if the NPSL could get organized then it might be on the level of the USL, but until then, it will never be anything but that.

Silly Bunny. They can’t make them change their name.
