Hartford Athletic - 2021

Sounds like you are rooting for them to fail. What kind of soccer fan are you?
You should see the pissing contest going on between him and Butch in the "why does soccer appeal" thread.

A realistic non cosplay one. But hey it’s a better time than the Yard Goats.

Nah, you sound like one of those soccer snobs that thinks he's a purist.

Still got that neck beard Porg?
Ironically I know Porg. Hung out with him at a couple HA games. But alas I'm not him.
Knew y'all a bunch of hipsters.
I can't be a hipster. Skinny jeans don't fit me.

He comes on here for the sake of being argumentative. Every forum has one.

Explain

Its not as Byzantine as MLS. But it has some troubling issues with Franchise Agreements.

like say HA wanted to leave the USL and go to NISA. Unlikely but if they did. The USL could operate its own HA with logos name and everything.

Check it out.

That's all in the weeds to me. I think the USL has an honest understanding of their place in the futbol world. MLS is dream-based.

Took you long enough to finally admit it.

USL must be doing something right if they're still in operation.

My disdain has never been concealed.

The league yes. For independent clubs it’s been a revolving door.

What's even sweeter, they faced a team full of ringers. Red Bulls started 7 guys under MLS contracts.

Imagine if HA played a friendly with the Revs or NYCFC @ Dillion.

HA was originally in the US Cup this year, so it coulda happened. Then they chopped the USL spots to 4 and they didn't make the cut.

Was watching some of the game on ESPN+ and saw the first goal. Was a sweet cross. The camera angles at Dillon are awful. They couldn't even have a close replay that showed the goal better. The stands looked packed. Had other things to do and wasn't able to watch more.

Was shocked when I looked at my phone and saw the score was 7-0! Team looks like they are solid this year. Red Bull 2 is stacked like @Waquoit said.

Wish to make it out to a game but still hesitant to go to large gatherings. Hopefully next summer I'll be there with the family

That's the beauty of the game. A well coached team that worked together beat a team that just threw talent on the field. I haven't been to Dillon yet this year, but I've enjoyed watching this team on TV. The progression from year 1, a team I was rooting for but I really hated their style and lack of mid-field play, to last season when they started to get some first class coaching and began to create a sense of team, to this season's smoother transitions and build ups, has been remarkable. The only downside is that it appears they've adopted a strategy of grabbing young European coaches who probably won't stay long if they are successful. Hopefully they can keep this one for at least a few years.

I honestly don't see a downside to hiring a good coach. This guy is a home run. It's better than some hack that nobody else wants.

FWIW, Connecticut has a decent shot at landing a NWSL franchise for New England, placed in Hartford.
Hartford just announced a women's team, Butch. Can I put you down for season tickets?

Walmer Martinez from Athletic was not only called-up to the El Salvador MNT, he got on the pitch scored in his first game. He might play against the USMNT in July.

The Hurricanes are doing better in Raleigh than they would ever have done in Hartford. Too many pro teams around here. We need to let the Whalers go.

That is objectively false. They didn't come close to matching Whalers attendance until they won the Stanley Cup. In Hartford they didn't make the playoffs in their last 5 years when 75% of the teams made the playoffs.

I don't know anything about hockey but it's my understanding that a Stanley Cup win is better than no Stanley Cup win. And well....the closest the Whalers ever came to that was a handful of short lived playoff runs in the 80s.

That's what I'm saying. They won the Cup just a few years after moving. No reason to think it wouldn't have happened in Hartford if they stayed. The attendance in Carolina was far, far below Hartford for the first years. It did not pick-up until the Cup bandwagon. If they win the Cup in Hartford they are still here in a shiny new building.
