Goofy?

Very poor choice of words. I'm willing to cut Rebecca a break. I doubt she would appreciate being called 'goofy looking'.

Uconn women's games are the toughest to commentate.

What do you do when one team is up by 20+? You start talking about silly crap. It happens in the men's game as well.

And her phraseology was more succinct. People are just overly sensitive about things. Nothing you can do, it's the way it is.
hey buddy its been a while since Ive seen a post from you, hope all is well... Happy New Year!

You call the game action. The game is always different, always new. The greatest broadcasters from the past always called the game. Of course, that mean knowing the game well including defenses, offenses, and the player tendencies.

She was goofy looking as a young UCONN player.

Now I get it !!! Rebecca how dare you- Ice-Rebecca was goofy looking - aM TOO- AM NOT-AM TOO-AM NOT
Hey, we have all seen the photos, she was all arms and legs.

There is a huge difference bvetween "acting goofy", and being called "goofy looking". The fact that they went on and on, laughing about it, while ignoring the game being played in front of them, was what I didn't like. They sounded like a couple of high school "divas" making fun of the "unpopular" kid...

The commentators' comments made me very uncomfortable. I was taught from an early age not to make personal comments about other people. "Great dress!" is fine, but anything about a permanent or semi-permanent feature is not. If I had ever called another woman 'goofy' or commented on her 'orange' legs I would have been slapped across the mouth, and rightly so. And such comments by women 20+ years older than the recipients? Come on!

Not always. Kara Lawson and Mike Patrick did an excellent job doing the men's blowout the other night. Economy of words is a good thing.

The worst is when they are talking crap and don't even acknowledge a foul or mean pick during it. I've seen Stef blown to the floor and the announcer (no name) doesn't even acknowledge it while prattling on about some garbage that has nothing to do with the game.

Agree - and I think it is the curse of Television. As sports program grew, they were generally taking people who got their start in radio where with no picture, the announcers had to describe the play precisely and keep track of everything for the listener. As the TV programming increased, they needed more and more folks and they started hiring people with no radio back ground. The we got MNF and the cult of sports personality in the booth and three people talking. With three there wasn't enough game talk for everyone so more extraneous talking crept in. And the sports personality and the extraneous talk spread out from there to all sports with less and less actual game talk - heck, everyone can see the picture, why describe it!
Of course the increased quality of both the picture and the broadcast infrastructure made it less and less necessary to describe the action - I remember watching some games in the 60s on a terrible B&W set with a bad antenna where without the commentary I couldn't tell which team was which let alone which player had the ball!

Some of us don't sit and watch the action with eyes transfixed. I know many folks like myself for whom it is background until I hear something that makes look up and watch or rerun a segment.

It's funny, but you're right. I guess sharp eyes and wearing out the rewind button on my dvr remote is the most I can hope for. I am finding that the volume is lower every game I watch.
