He looked good early in the season but lately not so much. Maybe he is the kind of player that needs more minutes to get comfortable. Unfortunately that is hard to do for a backup. He played more tonight because of Reed's foul trouble and looked better. He just needs more reps I think. Calhoun thinks so too. Which is ironic because Calhoun was less patient than Hurley back in the day.Why can't Reibe shoot free throws, baffling. He came in with with what many saying was a nice shooting touch.
Or set a screen. How about try having the tallest guy on the floor inbound the ball??
We kinda just didn’t look good overall, not just 2 mins. I can’t really point out 1 thing we did very well. It’s diabolical. Both sides are right and insane.
Those who watch tonight and are overly concerned are right. That was ugly. They’re also insane to be overly concerned with how successful this team has been this season.
Those who view tonight as inconsequential and lean on the fact that we are 24-2 with one of the better resumes in the country are also correct. But to ignore how we looked those last 2 minutes specifically is insane.
Weird. March will define this team.
I don’t HAVE to be worried about them. I’m just not. Can they beat us? Sure. But I trust this team way more to get up for big games. They’ve done it all year. The only one you can point to as a loss is SJ. And they were just due. You’ve gotta worry about Nova and SJU. We already lost to St John’s and I think we beat Nova in OT. I like our ability to survive close games, but then I look at who we’ve been playing and realize, we shouldn’t be scratching and clawing to beat bad teams. We’ve gotta beat Nova and SJU for seeding reasons.
You are right about the 8/9 seed in the tourney. I’m not confident in this team to beat them. Frankly, I’m not that confident of them beating anyone. They let everyone hang around.
Reibe was great tonight, but he is a bit up and down too. Last game was a bad one for him. What did you think of Calhoun's comment about giving "the German kid" more playing time? I think Reibe looks better when he gets more minutes. Reed did not have a great game tonight. His foul trouble gave Reibe more opportunity by default and he looked better. Neither of them are good from the line.
We had spurts. I mentioned the last 2 minutes because they were especially badWe kinda just didn’t look good overall, not just 2 mins. I can’t really point out 1 thing we did very well.
Yes and yes. If he is covered at the 3 why doesn’t he dribble and pull up? He often is trying to pass it off which doesn’t work. Been calling for this for weeks.Mullins needs to be much more than just a 3 point chucker. He seems to seldom miss his two point shots but there aren't enough of them.
Because he isn’t. He’s just a dumb basketball player. It’s not like he’s afraid of contact. He just comes across to often as aloof and clumsy.Don't call him soft, it's not allowed.
I recall Liam was pretty good finishing around the rim. He was bigger and stronger than Mullins, a better rebounder. He could create his own shot when no one else was doing it. I would like to see Mullins do that more often. He had that one baseline fadeaway off the dribble tonight, but need more of that.Mullins shoots better than Liam from everywhere on the court. I love Liam but he was an inefficient shooter and really bad finishing around the rim.
Half the bench played well tonight. Reibe and Stewart were good. The problem is Stewart and Smith played poorly. They are experienced players. They need to be more consistentUConn is getting very little from the bench. Ross was alright but he was getting beat a lot and still loves to fall for those upfakes. Smith is just guy who gives Demary a few minutes off the court to breathe. Stewart is playing his worst Basketball of the season and is supplying no help-defense when in. Only Reibe is giving us something off the bench. Glad to see Ball have a good first half shooting but he needs to learn to drive when teams play him tight like they did in the 2nd half. Mullins is starting to look a little one dimensional out there as a gunner. He needs to expand his game and not settle for the outside shots. Problem is without Demary and to some extent Karaban we have nobody who drives to the basket with any regularity which makes defending us much easier. I like this team but just wonder if we are missing one really good creator on offense from being a final four team. Also, the defense is starting to look like last year with too much dribble penetration being allowed the last 3 games. Big Props to Alex, The UConn all-time winningest player, for bailing us out after making that horrible inbound pass.
Reed and Reibe have good form but the %s are telling. Why can't Reibe shoot free throws, baffling. He came in with with what many saying was a nice shooting touch.
Yep and with a team like us who drive so little that impacts how teams play us and also makes us more susceptible to teams pressing us up top and turning us over. Only Demary and to a lesser extent Karaban even attempt to do that. And he has been great driving and mid range this year, tonight he wasn’t even attempting it.
That's the big issue I have with the offense. Are there times Solo puts up too many contested shots this year? Absolutely. But I didn't really sense that in this game in particular. There were a few times he was passed the ball or left with the ball with the shot clock winding down. Deliberate offensive sets are fine, but there is a distinction to be made between being deliberate and screwing around the first 20 seconds with the ball.Ball put up a lot of shots. He shot great in the first half. Second half more typical this year. I don't mind him taking a lot of shots. Someone has to shoot it, but I thought he took more contested shots in the second half. Some of that is because our offense is so deliberate, we are forced to take shots late clock. I would like to see us initiate our offense quicker. Smith is the worst at this, just holding the ball until there is 10 seconds left on the clock.
20 assists on 25 FGWe kinda just didn’t look good overall, not just 2 mins. I can’t really point out 1 thing we did very well.
You recall wrong, he shot 46% at the rim last year which is well below averageI recall Liam was pretty good finishing around the rim. He was bigger and stronger than Mullins, a better rebounder. He could create his own shot when no one else was doing it. I would like to see Mullins do that more often. He had that one baseline fadeaway off the dribble tonight, but need more of that.
Give him a break. He had a bad game. This team is going no where without him so try to be a little more optimistic.Because he isn’t. He’s just a dumb basketball player. It’s not like he’s afraid of contact. He just comes across to often as aloof and clumsy.
I think you meant Ross. He was passible. He still has trouble keeping guys in front of him and falls for the fakes a lot. Lewis was getting by him a lot. I will give you Reibe who I mentioned played well. Still need more from the bench.Half the bench played well tonight. Reibe and Stewart were good. The problem is Stewart and Smith played poorly. They are experienced players. They need to be more consistent
New here? I’m the biggest Taris defender on this board. But he isn’t a smart basketball playerGive him a break. He had a bad game. This team is going no where without him so try to be a little more optimistic.
Yeah, he is starting to look like just a gunner but he did have that one drive that he missed the dunk. We need to see more of that to keep defenses honest.I was hoping now would be the time when Mullins would start ascending and take this team to a new level, right now it's looking alot like McNeeley with alot of smoked open shots and bricked jumpers. Now would be a good time for Borges(or any beatwriter that doesn't want to be lazy)to do his "I asked anonymous NBA scouts about UConn's prospects" column instead of drab game recaps and puff pieces. We need honest assessments because if you watch enough college basketball this is not leveling up to the performances we are seeing from other highly touted NBA prospects.
yes Ross played well, I misspokeI think you meant Ross. He was passible. He still has trouble keeping guys in front of him and falls for the fakes a lot. Lewis was getting by him a lot. I will give you Reibe who I mentioned played well. Still need more from the bench.
