Georgetown Post Game Thread - Reed Double Double

That's a crazy thing to say. These overreactions provide nothing constructive. Bench him and then what? Start him? Give him 10 minutes off the bench?

Certainly you can offer a suggestion that Stewart could start and Solo helps provide an offensive punch off the bench but not playing him for a couple of games? Nah.
Benched as in come off of the bench. Not sure how you got the idea of not playing him.

It's clear his confidence is shot. Having him play against the others teams bench, where his superior talent overcomes his lack of confidence would be beneficial to the team and him.

Malachi has been really rough lately, like debatably unplayable rough. I didn’t get to watch this one but seems like it was the case today as well.
I thought he played great D as he really hassled Gtown's PGs. He was alright running the offense but took too many shots. I do not think he got a minute in the 2nd half correct?

I thought he was fine in the first half. He didn't play too much, the bench isn't scoring lately.
It just seems like a big change in his quickness/attacking from last year in the handful of games I watched of Dayton. I know that’s not the basis of our offense but he is far too often a black hole of dribbling nowhere

After the first two minutes seems they forgot how to play.

At times I think we forget as a team how dominant Reed is being and try to a fault to get other guys going.

Also too many times guy ball watching and not attacking the glass.

Too many threes not enough attacking and cutting to the basket for easy points.

Late game free throws from AK, Ball, and Mullins yikes. Ironically Reed was money today after struggling at SH

That being said a win is a win. Even in the 23 championships season we struggled with gtown at home.
Hopefully coaches pull a rabbit outbid the hat like they did with moving Jax to the dunkers spot. Is that next for solo?

100% agree…..too many people on this board focused on the outcome, not the trend. This trend is very disturbing.
while the overall effort was bad, they did handle the press well and only had 6 TOs for the game. When they were struggling to score in second half Ball drove to rim and got to the FT line and scored sme much needed points for UConn. They also keep their composure when other teams go on runs.

UConn will go nowhere without Solo on his game! Give me a break with this Ross crap!
So better to have a 27% 3 pt shooter as your SG? How are Ross or Stewart worse?

Uhhhj, that has quite a bit to do with us moving to number two since that’s currently occupied by Iowa State?
We were obviously already moving to #2 with a win over Georgetown today after Iowa State got throttled by Kansas.

Losses do not trigger me. Missing free throws and being out hustle trigger the s— out of me. 7 missed FT’s to end the game is dog s——-. The defensive effort the last 5 minutes was dog s—-. I didn’t enjoy watching this game and watching UConn is one my favorite things to do. I will do my best to forget about having watched this peace of garbage efffort.
couple of bourbons will help you forget.

What was the deal with not correcting the clock upon initial review, letting Mullins take one free throw, then delaying the game again to make the obviously necessary correction? Iced him out of the second one if you ask me…
Strange indeed! Totally unfair.

I’m eerily calm in the close games this year. Even today when it seemed as though they did everything to let this one slip away we pulled it out.

1. This "wealthiest alumni base" is a misomer. Attorneys and politicians make good money but there are very, very few seven, eight and nine figure donors in that cohort.

2. Georgeotwn has to deal with $100 million in cuts in FY2026 from losses in federal research grants. At some point athletic budgets are going to get cut and men's basketball has been running at a loss for years.

3. Georgetown does pay for football but at a lower level than most--its FY25 budget was $3.6 million. Ironically, its football alumni give more back as a percentage of giving than do basketball alumni and this helps cover operating expenses.
I’ve been saying for years that. Georgetown is trying to play major college basketball with an Ivy League outlook. If the Ivy called them ( they won’t of course but in some fantasy world if it happened) they Ed old have walked off the court with 5 minutes left to catch a train to New Haven.

Please tell me the last time AK and Solo both missed 2 free throws in the last 2 minutes or so? Trend?

Yes, losing today has nothing to do with why they are dropping out of the #2 spot on Monday and why UConn is moving into it.
But now they will drop even further.

Just a random thought. I've never been an Ed Cooley hater, although I don't always agree with him, though I could say that about anyone. He's a classic Big East coach with a big personality, sometimes abrasive and/or polarizing, sometimes endearing, but always genuine. He loves the conference, frequently sings its praises, and he's got this team playing hard and competing- even after several tough losses. I hope he's able to turn the program around, and I feel he's headed in the right direction.

I'm a huge Solo fan but in addition to his terrible three point shooting we're still seeing the defensive lapses where he forgets about his man or he simply won't finish off a defensive possession by staying with his man until the possession is over. That late airball forced three should've gotten him yanked from the game. That's a low bball IQ selfish shot.
He tends to charge at his guy and overshoot so that the guy drives around him

W: Mullins/Ball/Alex look to shoot. Maybe they should look to drive to the hoop more. They’ve become one dimensional and teams defend them as such. When they did go midrange or to the tin, good things happen.
Karaban drove several times, and each one was a disaster

24 team got crushed a couple times in conference. This team reminds me a little of 03/04 in terms of not playing up tp ability through the year. Not record or roster. And then Calhoun said, its time to smash though the window. And then it all came together when it mattered.

Tell me one time today or against SH where you felt comfortable with us against a press???
