Georgetown Post Game Thread - Reed Double Double

What was the deal with not correcting the clock upon initial review, letting Mullins take one free throw, then delaying the game again to make the obviously necessary correction? Iced him out of the second one if you ask me…
Strange indeed! Totally unfair.

I’m eerily calm in the close games this year. Even today when it seemed as though they did everything to let this one slip away we pulled it out.

1. This "wealthiest alumni base" is a misomer. Attorneys and politicians make good money but there are very, very few seven, eight and nine figure donors in that cohort.

2. Georgeotwn has to deal with $100 million in cuts in FY2026 from losses in federal research grants. At some point athletic budgets are going to get cut and men's basketball has been running at a loss for years.

3. Georgetown does pay for football but at a lower level than most--its FY25 budget was $3.6 million. Ironically, its football alumni give more back as a percentage of giving than do basketball alumni and this helps cover operating expenses.
I’ve been saying for years that. Georgetown is trying to play major college basketball with an Ivy League outlook. If the Ivy called them ( they won’t of course but in some fantasy world if it happened) they Ed old have walked off the court with 5 minutes left to catch a train to New Haven.

100% agree…..too many people on this board focused on the outcome, not the trend. This trend is very disturbing.
Please tell me the last time AK and Solo both missed 2 free throws in the last 2 minutes or so? Trend?

Just a random thought. I've never been an Ed Cooley hater, although I don't always agree with him, though I could say that about anyone. He's a classic Big East coach with a big personality, sometimes abrasive and/or polarizing, sometimes endearing, but always genuine. He loves the conference, frequently sings its praises, and he's got this team playing hard and competing- even after several tough losses. I hope he's able to turn the program around, and I feel he's headed in the right direction.

I'm a huge Solo fan but in addition to his terrible three point shooting we're still seeing the defensive lapses where he forgets about his man or he simply won't finish off a defensive possession by staying with his man until the possession is over. That late airball forced three should've gotten him yanked from the game. That's a low bball IQ selfish shot.
He tends to charge at his guy and overshoot so that the guy drives around him

W: Mullins/Ball/Alex look to shoot. Maybe they should look to drive to the hoop more. They’ve become one dimensional and teams defend them as such. When they did go midrange or to the tin, good things happen.
Karaban drove several times, and each one was a disaster

24 team got crushed a couple times in conference. This team reminds me a little of 03/04 in terms of not playing up tp ability through the year. Not record or roster. And then Calhoun said, its time to smash though the window. And then it all came together when it mattered.

while the overall effort was bad, they did handle the press well and only had 6 TOs for the game. When they were struggling to score in second half Ball drove to rim and got to the FT line and scored sme much needed points for UConn. They also keep their composure when other teams go on runs.
Tell me one time today or against SH where you felt comfortable with us against a press???

Yeah because a team with totally different players had a tough go against teams of totally different players and even different coaches, the obvious conclusion is , well I don’t know what it is but yeah!

I don’t buy the this is a NBE road game either. This was a pretty bad team we played and yet again it was a struggle which we really could have lost. At some point we need to go out and knock the heck out of bad teams.

Late game foul shooting, or lack of it, has caused many teams to go home from the Dance. That needs fixing for sure.
I love that @freescooter is now posting after wins because we haven't had enough losses to satisfy his appetite.

I’d like Mullins to look inside more for a shot than generally camp outside where he can be somewhat neutralized. He made a couple of turnaround jumpers and is crafty. If the outside shot isn’t available, mix it up more.
Our offense seems too predictable, long shot clock and slow everything. Hope we can mix it up and play come creative basketball from time to time. We have played a number of games in a short time frame and perhaps were just flat and tired. For long stretches we played indifferent basketball no matter who was on the court. I'm concerned that the Smith offense is putting us to sleep.

we will be fine. Got the W, on to Nova. This team has proven they are a legit title contender over and over this season. There are always stinkers along the way. Winning the stinkers is what great teams do

Hurley seems to be uncharacteristically calm about the narrow victories as of late- even strongly defending his team from criticism. Once ago, he would have been driving home the points about not "playing to our identity" and even more recently not "having that killer instinct", but he seems to have backed off on that approach.

I'm guessing he feels it's psychologically more beneficial with this group to emphasize the positives, especially the 18 wins and the #3 ranking (soon to be #2, as Hurley said on the post-game presser), ad tout the championship caliber of the program. Overall, he seems to really be much calmer this season, both in games and with the media.

On the plus side:
1. We won
2. Only 5 Turnovers with 8 steals and 6 blocks
3. No physical injuries (just psychological damage)

On the minus side:
1. Our offense has disappeared
2. Many Missed foul shots at crunch time by our best players
3. Our 3 point shooting seems to exist only in history books
4. Our inbounding against pressure is a ghastly weakness
5. Mullins may need smaller shoes to help stay in bounds. Only Selvie & Purvis were out so frequently - How does this even happen?

With 1 second left Alex inbounded the ball immediately to an open player before the defense could get set. An open player is available like that most of the time in the first instant we get the ball. Instead we have 2 players with their backs turned to the ball, begin to break when Alex has less than 3 sec and ultimately the ball ends up double teamed and trapped in the corner needing a prayer pass back under the basket or to the foul line. More often than not, our whole offense doesn't start until there is 17/18 sec left. If a guy is free the instant Alex touches the ball, get it in!!!
During the last minute or so we apparently were trying to get the ball into our best foul shooters. That didn't work so well. Yes, too often our team turns it's back to the player with the ball, that's not what our era was taught. What do we know, we were never 18-1. The husky players ways dribble across the mid court. We do spend a lot of time running down the clock before attempting an offensive play.
