Georgetown Post Game Thread - Reed Double Double

KenPom ORtg is 36 after todays game. Defense is fine, our offense is a concern. It has been for sometime now. Ball can't do anything other than shoot pull-ups in the lane. Our vaunted 3P shooting looks like my daughters 4th grade bball games, non-existent.
As Demary goes, this offense will go. 4-7 with 5 assists and 0 TO. Guy needs to shoot more though and has to have double-digit attempts. T Newt averaged 11 attempts and 15 ppg his last year. Demary may need more than that.

Solo needs to stop jumping forward on his 3s

Georgetown is 0-23 against ranked opponents in the past five years.

Don't be surprised to see major budget cuts fall on this program soon.
Clemson is ranked and they beat them. But I don't think that stat took that game into account because they weren't ranked at the time.

In Big East play they've

Lost to Xavier by 3 after missing 18 FTs

Lost to Depaul by 6 after making 1 FG in the 2nd half

Blew a double digit lead to Seton Hall

Lost in OT to Creighton after being up 8 with under 2 minutes left

They're finding every way to lose right now.

Another positive is that we are giving some of these backmarkers hope. Helps the league.

Tough game. We seem to be playing down to our opponents. SD played well but he needs to stop fouling so he can stay on the floor. The offense does not run well without him.

Surprised AK and SB both missed 2 FT in crunch time. I would not have called that. AK is a pro (not necessarily NBA) but he doesn't quit. Stayed out of foul trouble today.

SB played well from my perspective. His 3-point shot continues to get worse and worse. He is at his best when he drives to the basket. That was a clutch floater late. Give him some love fellas! Stop it with the bench Solo takes. Stew has his limitations too. Both deserve to play.

Reed is a beast. Not sure why he had so few touches in the second half. Props for hitting his FT today!

Reibe struggled on D, but he is good for a few points each game. Glad we have a backup big who is serviceable.

BM was just OK. Missed that second free throw to make it interesting. I still trust him going forward.

Are we ready to win a Natty? Probably not, but it is still January. UConn is relevant, and that's all I can ask for. Looking forward to see how they handle Nova with a weeks rest. Go Huskies!

Dog crap performance and we still won. Won't be good enough in the tourneys, but it was good enough today.

UConn will go nowhere without Solo on his game! Give me a break with this Ross crap!

I agree with this. We expected our 2G to be a 35-41% shooter from 3 and he’s nowhere near that. He has improved getting to the basket but defense, no the same. We need that guy who was projected to be potentially an AA. We don’t even have a BE honorable mention for now. And Ross, um no. Was upset that Stew didn’t get some of his minutes down the stretch especially on D.

Would say the entire team had a bad game and we still managed to get a conference win on the road, could be worse results
Your comment is not comforting. We can’t continue to say “nothing to see here” just because we won the last 2 games and are 18-1. I don’t see even a sliver of killer instinct with this team and was roasted by many trying to defend what my eyes are seeing.

How is Georgetown such a fiscal disaster?

They have one of the wealthiest alumni bases and they don't have to pay for football.

1. This "wealthiest alumni base" is a misomer. Attorneys and politicians make good money but there are very, very few seven, eight and nine figure donors in that cohort.

2. Georgeotwn has to deal with $100 million in cuts in FY2026 from losses in federal research grants. At some point athletic budgets are going to get cut and men's basketball has been running at a loss for years.

3. Georgetown does pay for football but at a lower level than most--its FY25 budget was $3.6 million. Ironically, its football alumni give more back as a percentage of giving than do basketball alumni and this helps cover operating expenses.

Deserved to lose

More importantly, the blueprint on how to beat us is now clearly out there for all to see

Coaching staff will have to earn their chops now cuz even I could design a game plan on how to beat Uconn
Attack the bad defenders and crash the boards.

I find that difficult to believe. DC is swimming in money and Georgetown alums are swimming all over those waters. They have a $4 billion endowment. The football expenditures are peanuts and schools around the country are dealing with federal research grant cuts.

Malachi has been really rough lately, like debatably unplayable rough. I didn’t get to watch this one but seems like it was the case today as well.
I thought he was fine in the first half. He didn't play too much, the bench isn't scoring lately.

Dan reads the chat. Who knew?

Napheesa Collier was saying in an interview during last womens game how unfathomable it is to win a natty. We (men and women) made it look easy many times.

Here, It is very hard to go 18-1. The difference between a single digit loss and a single digit win is a lot wider than we think. This team didn't win 18 games by an arbitrary coin flip.

Obviously not a great performance. Solo 0-5 and AK 1-6 from 3, we just can’t have that and be good. Hurley has to get over having Alex on the court at all times. 35 minutes is way too much. He had zero fouls which tells me he was resting a bit on the defensive end. I’d rather 28 full effort minutes. I’m not going to worry too much but the trend is concerning.

hurley's a lot more chill this year and they need to be building confidence, so more pressure from fans isn't going to help.

if it's a confidence issue, then focus on the positives and they have some real problems can both be true, you just have to pump up the team in public to fix the issues. this game in particular had some uncharacteristic bad finishing. the shooting is what it is i'm not expecting it to get better until it actually does, it's been a large enough sample.

Gtown prob has a bigger endowment than half of the BE combined. Are you an alum?

As expected, every team is going to give us their best shot - thankfully the Huskies have answered every time. I gotta think we'll push through conference play and roll out those A caliber games when they matter most at the end of the season.
It’s not their best shot that’s causing issues. It’s our SHOOTING. AK & Solo 1-11 on 3s

You're so right about AK. It's insane the minutes he plays and how he can never do wrong in Hurley's eyes even in games where he's playing like cheeks.
