Georgetown Post Game Thread - Reed Double Double

A little concerned that Mullins had a couple iso situations and couldn't create anything at all and ended up throwing cross court bailout passes (one of which led to that Solo runner to beat the shot clock). It wasn't that he missed contested shots - he couldn't even get himself into a position to take one and gave someone else a 911 ball. I'd like to have him be a late shot clock option to create his own if all else fails, since he has shown he can be more than just a spot up shooter, but he may not have that in his arsenal this year.

Plus for the NBA, he needs to show more bag. Shooting can come and go, but he is looking a bit too one-dimensional on offense to go high in this draft.

He’s shown he can make beautiful turnaround midrange jumpers off the dribble, including today.

Foul shooting has been brutal. It's getting to the point where the only guys I trust in late game situations are Silas and Mullins.
And they missed fts as well so it's a team wide problem that needs to be addressed.

That’s been the book on us all year and yet only 1 of 19 opponents have beaten us and that was when we were down 2 of our best players
Who has full court pressed us besides SH and Georgetown???

Embarrassing all around game. Got killed on the boards and then going 2-8 at the Free Throw Line late in the game is just unacceptable. Demary played great but how did we forget about Reed in the 2nd half? We are not a great shooting team. We neeed to feed Reed more and Demary needs to be more aggressive scorer going to the hoop.
Reed is tough inside. We do need to feed him as much as possible. But he needs to look to the wings and kick it out sometimes. Could be 3 or 4 wide open 3s a game.

Deserved to lose

More importantly, the blueprint on how to beat us is now clearly out there for all to see

Coaching staff will have to earn their chops now cuz even I could design a game plan on how to beat Uconn
Yeah, what!?!? Grab them off the ball like today or body slam them all night like SH? Both the result of the officiating crews not doing their job! And just hope and pray we suck a shooting the ball?

What exactly did you think GT did to try to beat us?

I just thought they simply shot poorly from all over the floor and didn't exactly witness anything exceptional that GT tried to do to beat us. More self-inflicted if you ask me.

We have guys that clearly thrive in transition (Mali, Ross, solo, Mullins, trailing Alex, stew) yet we never do It. Why?
wouldn't include Smith in that group, botched a fast break today in the first half and he never looks to throw the pass ahead to initiate a break. that's where the 2024 team was so good when they did get out in transition, Tristen and Cam were so good with the outlet passes and passing the ball ahead, the ball sticks in Smith's hands.

Yes, that’s exactly it. Turn it into a grind it out game and press us all over the court. It’s clear we’re not a physically tough team. And it’s abundantly clear we’re terrified of being pressed.

I think one of the reasons his minutes have diminished is because he is in the mindset that he has to score when he is in the game. He never seems to want the ball to leave his hands. He’ll pound the ball when we try to run offense.

Losses do not trigger me. Missing free throws and being out hustle trigger the s— out of me. 7 missed FT’s to end the game is dog s——-. The defensive effort the last 5 minutes was dog s—-. I didn’t enjoy watching this game and watching UConn is one my favorite things to do. I will do my best to forget about having watched this peace of garbage efffort.

The lol part is why you would gives a rats a s s about our ranking right now, especially after a game like that. That has to be the most bizarre post game take I’ve heard
Would love us going into MSG 1, for the entertainment value alone.

Probably why you don’t make rash judgements from one game.
It's as if the SH game didn't just happen.

Granted the Hall was ranked, though seeing their metrics on offense made me wonder why, but we played poorly in back-to-back games.

yea it's because those Malachi minutes are brutal

That is the truth in plain sight. We know Malachi can play better. He played great in both games at MSG against great competition. Silas cannot get into a foul trouble. But forget fouls for the moment. Silas needs to sit down and rest. With rest he can play with more intensity in 28-30 minutes then playing 35 minutes.

Malachi has to play better and it's clear Hurley has not trusted him in the last few games and with good reason. Malachi had a few situations where he is wide open for a 3-he has to shoot that with confidence instead of trying to finish among the trees. Opposing teams are going way under the screens and clogging the lane when Malachi is dribbling around at the top of the key.

As far as that tweet goes, yes Silas has to be more particular about reaching in and getting fouls called on him and he didn't have foul trouble in the prior 3 games if I am not mistaken. But in no way did he let UConn down in this game like he said he did. Malachi has to step it up, we know he can do it and he has shown he can do it.

They looked like a mentally and physically exhausted team. This one week break could not come quickly enough. I think Seton Hall took a lot out of them, and like someone said earlier, they looked they were moving in quicksand. I will take a D grade performance with a win any day of the week. For me, the great teams win when they don't play well. I am hopeful after this week off, they come back and really play well. They are already through half of their Big East road games (they have only played 3 Big East home games). I am not here to say Georgetown is good, but they have been in every game. They outplayed UConn both on the court and on the stat sheet and still lost. That says a lot about this team.
