Georgetown Post Game Thread - Reed Double Double

I may be in the minority here but we need to generate more possessions. We are playing entirely too slow. It trims our margin for error. We took the shot clock down to >5 seconds on way too many possessions turning down good shots looking for great ones. I loved the quick Ross 3. Take the good shots!! It’s infuriating.

This is our best hope for an explanation as to the anemic offense we are seeing. I hope you are right!
Me too! Perspective is not friends with the Boneyard, so it’s hard to tell how much to freak out.

Funny to win because we got to the line more

Better to win a trap game than lose it.

Yes they have one loss

To the number 1 team in the nation

With 40% of our starters out

But go ahead John wooden Jr
Lol

You probably loved what you saw today. Your comments are focused on the past…..mine are where they should be, which is the future

If you didn’t see things to be concerned about off of what you saw this week then I don’t know what to tell you

To continue with the golf analogy someone threw out a bit back, you’d probably think you’re a pro if you shanked a ball off the trees but it ricocheted off and bounced into the hole. That’s what happened today

In the end, a win is a win is a win.

That said, could have easily lost this one. Karaban & Ball slumping together and not a great game by Mullins is tough to overcome, especially Demary sitting most of the first half.

Speaking of which, Demary has to stay on the floor. If it means giving up a layup once a game, then so be it. The differential when he's on the floor will more than make up for it.

Reed is becoming a 'black hole' on the offensive end. Maybe it was a blessing with the way the shooting went, but early on he had a possession with Mullins and Karaban wide open for 3s and he forced the action and luckily drew a foul.

Hurley has to get AK 2 or 3 more minutes of rest during the course of the game... especially with Stewie playing pretty well.

Ross doesn't look near 100% to me. A couple of times he went to go right and his body/ankle just wouldn't let him go as quick as he normally would.

AK is in a slump, but also, some of the passes to him are just a second late. The timing just seems off. Demary is a great passer, but it seems like other guys don't expect Karaban to clear and that can mess with a shooter's shot.

And Ball can't let the slump affect him at both ends. His D seemed better this year toward the beginning of the year. He is routinely getting beat.

Finally, guys have to move when AK, Demary, Ball, Mullins and Smith do drive. Too many times, especially with Reed, they sit and watch and end up letting their man defend 2 guys at once. Make defenders make decisions. Make them have to communicate. That what was one of the things about he championship teams. Even off the ball, defenders would have to play and position themselves perfectly. It can mentally break a team over the course of 40 minutes.

D forced 10 TOs in the first half but O only got 4 points off them. Oh well a W is a W. Wonder what Danny said to Tarris after his attempted long ball!

Its a mystery to me how Big East teams look like Final Four teams against us, yet come March always exit before the Sweet 16.
Big East reffing. Doesn’t exist in the Tournament

In general, at this point of the season I would like to see our starters play fewer minutes, so our bench can have a chance to be a factor. Felt this last game too.

We always say how deep we are...and we know you do tighten your rotation as season goes on.

Still I would like the bench to get chance to contribute more now, so less tread on his 5 starters in March

We shot 36% FG, 19% 3Pt, 70% FT and GT out shot us %-wise in all 3 categories, including more assists and RBs but we still came out of there with a W. Number of FTs was the difference.

We're 18-1 and likely to move to #2 in the AP Poll, but my concern is if we have this type of shooting night in the NCAA tournament, we're not going to be cutting down the nets.

I still remember the loss to the eventual NC, Florida Gators last March where we had so many open 3s and missed just about all of them.

I thought this team had so many scoring options, especially from 3, and still do, but their streaky tendencies has me concerned.

On a side note, GT was grabbing our guys all day off the ball, which might have wore them down, but there also was times they weren't exactly running their stuff all that quickly or decisively today. Their poor 3 Pt shooting though started right from the jump.

Note, I'm far from saying the sky is falling. I'm not saying we don't have a very good team. I'm just a tad concerned with how they've been playing lately and am still waiting to see them play up to their potential.

Turning down good shots for great shots is a good if your team gets great shots later. But there is no guarantee that a great shot will result if a good shot is turned down. In fact, turning down a good shot can result in getting a bad shot later. FWIW, I think some players are turning down good shots due to a reluctance to shoot rather than trying to get a great shot.

If we want some perspective on conference road games, Iowa St is down 4 at the half to a bad Cinci team.
The lol part is why you would gives a rats a s s about our ranking right now, especially after a game like that. That has to be the most bizarre post game take I’ve heard

A little concerned that Mullins had a couple iso situations and couldn't create anything at all and ended up throwing cross court bailout passes (one of which led to that Solo runner to beat the shot clock). It wasn't that he missed contested shots - he couldn't even get himself into a position to take one and gave someone else a 911 ball. I'd like to have him be a late shot clock option to create his own if all else fails, since he has shown he can be more than just a spot up shooter, but he may not have that in his arsenal this year.

Plus for the NBA, he needs to show more bag. Shooting can come and go, but he is looking a bit too one-dimensional on offense to go high in this draft.

It means that teams can look at tape from this game and the Seton Hall game and it’s obvious how to play us: tough, grind it out and press us. Coaches need to be prepared for it.

What did you think it meant??
That’s been the book on us all year and yet only 1 of 19 opponents have beaten us and that was when we were down 2 of our best players

He's become easily our most valuable player. I have no idea what is going on with Malachi - he's become a series of bad decisions almost anytime he comes in now.
This team was constructed with the purpose of being a great shooting team and have depth to wear down the opposition. So far this team has not shown itself to be a great shooting team and the depth has been non existent as Danny through his actions has showed who he trusts by limiting the bench minutes (and I am not criticizing Danny for doing that). Hopefully the 1 week off rejuvenates this team.
