Georgetown Post Game Thread - Reed Double Double

More relieved UConn than happy UConn won. Conference road games are very rarely pristine Vegas line covering victories. It was gritty not pretty. The missed FTs at the end show the nerves getting to the players. Lots to dissect for later. Take the ugly gritty win and get the ff uuu cc kk out of the Capital One Center in DC. UConn owes Providence, Seton Hall, and Georgetown thorough beatdowns for the return games in Gampel and Hartford.

Thank goodness for Silas and Tarris, Players of Game.

Not a well played game, and ironically we started out great. When that happens, we let teams come back. When we start slow, we come back. Can’t seem to put together a complete 40 minutes, but still 18-1. Can’t complain about a W but it wasn’t a good one.

Can a loss feel gross? If it can that's what today's game felt like.

Should've blow that game open in the first half and didn't. We love complaining about the refs and rightfully so when they allow holding and tackling but the refs hooked us up today. We got three straight calls when we were down and got a couple other fortunate calls.

AK and Solo simply can't play like that as veterans. Falling asleep on defense, not securing defensive rebounds, forcing low bball IQ shots, missing a bunch of ft's to ice the game.

The team needs the week off and they need to regroup before playing a really tough Nova team.

Embarrassing all around game. Got killed on the boards and then going 2-8 at the Free Throw Line late in the game is just unacceptable. Demary played great but how did we forget about Reed in the 2nd half? We are not a great shooting team. We neeed to feed Reed more and Demary needs to be more aggressive scorer going to the hoop.

I would like to see Silas start looking for his own shot more and dial Solo's back. These Solo shots aren't even close and we're starting to reach the point where you just can't let him shoot his way out of this, the bricks are starting to affect his overall game in a way they weren't earlier in the season.

Deserved to lose

More importantly, the blueprint on how to beat us is now clearly out there for all to see

Coaching staff will have to earn their chops now cuz even I could design a game plan on how to beat Uconn
I have my qualms but too often you default to this rhetoric. My criticisms are about poor rotations (throwing off rhythm) and inbounding (which is bad at this point).

Criticize them sure, but earn their chops? What does that even mean?

18-1. Silas and Tarris showed up. Cooley did his homework on Solo's D. They rotated the ball to whoever he was guarding- in the last 5 minutes- whenever they needed a bucket.

Time for the Steve Nash FT practice video.

Solo's FT shots barely made it the rim. I knew they were going to be short as soon as it left his hands. He has no confidence in his shot. He needs to just drive.

Silas was the key to the win, especially in the second half. Real good stat line across the board with 0 turnovers. Kept his dribble alive when pressured, especially working down low and in the paint.
That’s the reason Malachi didn’t see the floor in the second half

After the first two minutes seems they forgot how to play.

At times I think we forget as a team how dominant Reed is being and try to a fault to get other guys going.

Also too many times guy ball watching and not attacking the glass.

Too many threes not enough attacking and cutting to the basket for easy points.

Late game free throws from AK, Ball, and Mullins yikes. Ironically Reed was money today after struggling at SH

That being said a win is a win. Even in the 23 championships season we struggled with gtown at home.

We barely beat an awful team. Down right pitiful performance overall. Our offense looks broken and so do our shooters. Judging from this game, we don’t belong in the top 10. We can’t cover a spread to save our lives.Figure it out Hurley!
I think it might help to go back to January 2023 threads. Almost EVERYONE on the team was in a slump then, and many of us (including me) wanted Hurley fired. I think it worked out.

One downside to Hurley working teams so hard may be that there is an inevitable mid-season slump.

This team is:
18-1…for the first time since ‘99
8-0 in the BE….for the first time since ‘99
Has beaten Kansas for the first time….at the Phog
Has only lost to the #1 team….without two starters

I agree the offense is stuck now, but we deserve our ranking. The D still held Georgetown to 60.

The week break may do wonders.

1) Yes a win is a win, but also with Nova and St. Johns playing each other get one 1.5 games out, and another 2.5 games out.
2) Solo did everything good except 3pt shooting and on-ball defense and FTs down the stretch.
3) Reed had 8 offensive rebounds out of 11 - was 2nd best Husky today
4) Silas was #1 husky today just a rock.
5) 2b was Braylon who hit some heady 3s, scrambled well for the ball and his D wasn't so back - actually caused some TOs so for giveaways was 1 AST - 2 TO +2 STL = +1

I know you are not saying the refs were bad today. To anyone complaining about the refs, they were definitely not the problem today and I thought they were good today and solid in Providence (first half they let Oswin get away with too much).

UConn missed a golden opportunity to blow the game open in the first half.

Last year we lose this. Not pretty but it's a W
I hope we aren't anywhere close to last year.

A W is a W. Another game that makes you wonder where this teams potential really is. I know many of us are holding out that they haven't "gelled" yet, but you'd expect incremental steps in that direction. I saw nothing today offensively that showed any progression that way, as we are running out of chances little by little.

No extra skip passes for looks, very few setups for open looks off actions. More one on one that we've seen in past UConn teams.

Our bench has shown nothing lately. What was once our strength is no non existent.

We shoot 36% from the floor including 19% from three and 71% from the line. Play mediocre offense rather than awful offense and these games are walk overs.

The Georgetown foul shot defense was brilliant in the last four minutes.

I'm a huge Solo fan but in addition to his terrible three point shooting we're still seeing the defensive lapses where he forgets about his man or he simply won't finish off a defensive possession by staying with his man until the possession is over. That late airball forced three should've gotten him yanked from the game. That's a low bball IQ selfish shot.

This is our best hope for an explanation as to the anemic offense we are seeing. I hope you are right!
