Geno calls out men's team fans for reaction after Creighton loss

That's not what's being discussed. And I think you know that.

I do. But there has been a lot of arrogant lectures accusing the fans of "wrong fanning" of late. As if Danny Hurley is in position play judge others for reacting poorly to negative things.

I reacted to the performance against Creighton by turning the game off and listening to Angine de Poitrine's busy, upbeat, engaging performance on KEXP. I felt this was the perfect distraction, but who is to say if Danny and Geno find that a proper way to react to the limp performance by our boys? Perhaps I, too, am wrong fanning. I mean, ignoring their existence for a bit is certainly not providing the positive affirmations that Geno seems to want.

Now we have Geno scolding the fan base for going overboard with social media comments. If it hasnt already im sure it will get out there soon on espn or what not.

Who is next in the lineup? Lets keep this going another couple of weeks since its so much fun. Maybe Penders and Cavanaugh next week. When the Big East tourney starts lets have all the BE coaches take their shots - a true round robin of pot shots can fly.

It’s one thing if people are coming up to the players and start talking about how their scholarship should be pulled because they suck but it’s another if you’re on social media and you see it:
By now, people should be smart enough to know their are certain places you don’t go after losses - such as the comments sections of these stupid apps, or the boneyard.

I don't know how I feel about this. I appreciate his support of the men's team, but calling fans balloon knots isn't the best look. Also, I don't think anyone called for anyone to lose their scholarship so it seems kind of fabricated to me. That again, I didn't hear the question that set this up. This feels different than me then Hurley's comment which seemed less than a criticism and more an attempt to rally the fans.

I think Geno is overlooking the fact that the team didn't play well for nearly two months. It wasn't one game. Hurley and our players will tell you that.

The last two games they looked more like the team they and we expected them to be

Suggesting they're not a one seed is not exactly a indication of being down on the team. And the fans were there before the St John's game, we also traveled to Nova, we're obviously behind our team. The fans are loud and supportive

The biggest complaint I saw was silly people saying people like me were the problem. The donors and longtime fans filling the lower bowl.

Maybe Geno hears something different, IDK. Or maybe Geno has rabbit ears and is paying too much attention to the noise. I know he's complained about attendance before

Geno, I love you man. I love your team, I love watching them play, I love what you brought to the state. Thank you, and don't worry about noise. You know we're there for you and Danny and everyone else

Embarrassed??? It was fair to call out by the coach…and guess what it worked..PBA was rocking and we got a great win. You guys get to criticize the players all you want but when the coaches call you out you can take it. We should all move on and enjoy the rest of the season..both teams gave a chance to hang another banner!

There is a bit of irony to this. I firmly remember Geno saying something to the extent of “I’m in support of paying players as long as I can fire them as well” when the discussion about paying players started to gain traction a few years back. But fans can’t criticize the team for poor performance? Just my opinion, the game completely changed once this happened. Some of these players are making generational money - more than the average Joe will in 30-40 years.

Whatever you say, man. What Geno is referring to, first of all, IS NOT just run of the mill fans criticizing the team for poor performance. And I realize they're making money - it makes ZERO difference to me and how I view the team or college basketball in general. None whatsoever. If you do, that's on you and you alone

As I understand what Gino is saying and Probaby meant. Fans show support multiple ways. But what Gino’s and Dan want is for fans to spend money on their programs. Winning will bring in that money. Entertaining basketball will bring in that money. Fans money and time should not be taking for granted.

I have the same sentiments and I get where Geno is coming from, but I just don't get why people are OK with Geno calling fans balloon knots. You just don't do that. Call them out for being too negative or over reacting. Even if there are so many balloon knots as he is suggesting, too bad. They help pay for the programs. If the coaches don't like the criticism, take a job in another state where fans are used to losing. Seriously, it's ok for people to disagree with great coaches once in a while.

He had no reason to take a positive question and reply negatively about UConn Basketball fans. He didn't call anyone out. He criticized a large chunk of the men's program. Total D move.

As to WBB, I was a super casual fan from 1995-2021. No CPTV games while I lived on Long Island til 2007, followed to watching many of the biggest OOC matchups and Sweet 16+ NCAA games, often at my sister's house. So I've had familiarity with most of the great players & seasons, but nothing like now watching girls turning into young women and the affecting human drama of depleted rosters and mixed success and snapped win streaks transforming into last year's triumph, and 30-0 so far this year. Not the stuff of this board, though I'm very happy to make your acquaintance today.

Heck the 1999 team lost at home to Miami. All of these were "good" teams. Good enough, at least, for the "on any given day" kind of thing to apply

Serious question: you don’t view college basketball differently now versus ten years ago? You have AJ Dybantsa making like 7 million dollars.

I respect that attitude of not being more critical of UConn players than in the past because they’re our guys and can transfer at any time.

I think Geno & Danny are focused on each next game toward the ultimate prize for both of the University's teams (and each other), and they both know how damn hard it is to manage & marshall the full process, and how media and fans and the inevitable intentional troublemakers are 3 more uncontrollable variables, though it's not unreasonable to want & ask for the best support from the fans as the best allies in common interest.
