both. games should primarily be for the students, but it's a state school. my tax dollars fund it dammit! so that means some games shouldn't be played in storrs, which is inconvenient for 90% of the people in ct. plus I work 2 blocks away from the xl :D

i like both. villanova has the same dilemma but it’s more straightforward. big brand opponents play wells fargo and the rest in whatever pavilion on the main line. i don’t get how uconn decides where high profile games are played.

Both, if XL can finally move forward with the renovations and stop kicking the can down the road!
I honestly don’t know if meaningful renovations are possible within the existing structure. I suspect they are not. But as fishy correctly, points out, even if it were there really isn’t a justification for the additional investment.

I wonder what a decibel meter would read, would Gampel or Hartford be louder?

Think Deepster is pissed you included the men in with the women on this one:oops:

The problem with simply moving games to XL during break needs to take into account that there is also a hockey team and several other events that want those same windows. Disney On Ice, other family events, wrestling, etc…

I think the mix now is fine. Like I have said in several threads, there just needs to be a consideration of how to get more kids to XL.

There were more students, by a fairly large margin, at the Villanova game the week after Christmas, then there were during the Marquette game. So the “XL games during break” crowd need to realize it really doesnt matter if people want to see the team play

If the idea is to play in a bigger room when theres less students around, that doesnt make much sense

How many games does nova play per year at wells Fargo?

That would bring the Johnny fans in when the Red Storm visits…but do we want them in our back yard?
Would actually be pretty cool for the states to get together and run some kind of special for Johnny fans.

I voted both and like the break only option for XL. But I've been around long enough to have gone to games vs Fairfield at New Haven Coliseum. NOT the good ol' days.

Wells-Fargo games: UConn, Creighton, Providence, Oklahoma, Seton Hall

Finneran: La Salle, Delaware St., Penn, DePaul, GTown, St. John’s, Marquette, Butler, Xavier

Five, the year before Covid they played seven games at Wells Fargo. I think the Covid year they didn't play any games there. They tend to play their biggest marquee matchups at Wells Fargo.

Gampel is better for students and players. They play better there, and the crowd is better. However, for alumni, and indoctrination of young kids as life long fans Hartford is better. Playing in Hartford expands the fan base, keeps alumni actively attending games.

Voted both, but almost went all Hartford. I know I’m in vast minority, but Hartford is a better experience for me. Arrive 2+ hours before the game, eat dinner, get lubed up and walk across the street to watch the game. Easy exit after the game.

Game experience at Gample is better, but that’s all you have. Remember, X game was loud as fluck, but we lost. Marquette was ok, but we won. I had a better time on Tuesday.

I always said Mohegan. WITH bets available.
You've got the right idea. Replacement for Gampel should be next to Dairy Bar, with a huge garage, and a casino. If the state won't allow a casino then build condos and another bar and restaurant area next to it. Host concerts in it. Eventually build a new football stadium nearby. Expand 195 to two lanes all the way to 84 and into Willimantic. Turn Storrs into a proper college town and people will want to go there.

Unfortunately the Mansfield natives will kill that in no time, like they did the initial stadium proposal.

Hartford. There is 5,000 more people.

We just played arguably our best game of the year in Hartford. And one of the worst halves vs. Xavier and Georgetown at Gampel. Bad game in Hartford vs. St John’s too. It doesn’t matter where we play.

Imagine the BY’s reaction if UConn put all marquee games at XL.
