Games Jan. 20-26

This one probably doesn't rate a game thread of its own, but Colorado @ Cal is fairly big. Cal is still winless in conference. Colorado has come close to some big upsets, but is only 2-5 in conference, they could really use a win to stay within striking distance of the middle of the pack.

Butler up 5 inside a minute left @ Creighton.

Was just gonna remark on this. Not a huge upset -- both teams are in a huge logjam of 6 teams in 2nd place at 5-3 -- but it's an upset nonetheless.

USC is a hot mess so far, Washington up 9-0. Of course UW and early leads are a kiss of death.

Ugh. UW leading 9-4 at the end of Q1. This one is UGLY! Not a single foul has been called so far. I can't say I've ever seen an entire quarter without a whistle before. Lots of contact in the lane on shots on both ends of the floor.

Just switched over to Cincinnati-Temple on ESPNU. Not an exciting game really, but a great commentator duo with Brenda VanLengen and Andraya Carter.

Temple making a run. Lead cut to 64-60 after being up by 16

Washington was up 19-6, USC cut it down to 5. Now 24-17 at the Q2 media TO. Finally a couple fouls called as well. Q2 has been much better than Q1.

Somehow Temple's RPI is high enough (#52), despite no significant wins, that they have an outside shot at an at-large bid this year. But they'd have to win games like this one.

Some of the USC players on the bench look shell shocked. They got the news about Kobe a little bit before the game. Many of the players knew him.

Washington leading 34-21. Henson is on fire.

Washington 37-25 at halftime. Henson has 14, 4-6 behind the arc. Where has this been?

Colorado and Cal tied at 30 just before the half.

.-.
South Dakota ran away in the 2nd half, 79-56

DePaul up 50-27 over Georgetown at halftime. They've been cruising for the most part in Big East play. Next year is gonna be a bit different...

Michigan up 71-57 over Rutgers in the closing seconds.

Here we go again, Washington choking away another double digit lead. Again. How many times can they do this? Lead down to 4 and USC shooting FTs.

Tied at 45. Huskies never met a lead they couldn't squander. They are allergic to the 2nd half of games.

22-8 USC in Q3, they take their first lead of the game.

48-47 Washington thru Q3.

Colorado up 45-40 against Cal late Q3.

.-.
I have my eye on a game in the Missouri Valley that could have implications for the NCAA tournament bubble.

Bradley, who is a surprising 15-2 and 6-0 in conference, is leading Drake by 53-50 after 3Q. Both of these teams are fighting not only for 1st place in the conference but also for a possible at-large bid.

Washington regaining their footing in Q4. Now up 59-53. Van Dyke has been struggling this game but she's stepping up the last couple minutes.

Rogers responds w/ a big 3, she has 20.

Pili knocking players down left and right.

61-56 UW, USC has the ball.

Dawgs are getting homered now. Every whistle going USC's way. Pili is a human wrecking ball yet doesn't commit any fouls? Really?

6 point lead down to 2 and USC ball. Come on Dawgs, just for once don't choke.

.-.
Pili missed a layup, Melgoza dribbles into traffic and airballs a desperation heave as the shot clock expired. USC w/ a chance to win w/ 2.3 seconds left, tied at 66.

Rogers heave w/ 1 second left rattles out. 2nd straight OT game for UW.

Bradley and Drake are all tied up with 2:32 to play.

Hittner has been a bit quiet this season but she has 26 points today, albeit on inefficient FG shooting.

Gabi Haack of Bradley has 26 as well.

Pili throws Melgoza to the floor blocking out on a FT and it's a double foul? These refs are incompetent.
