I think the staff has focused too much on trying to make Edwards the go to player. Said this after the loss in Vegas. She’s not ready; not against the handful of teams that matter. She was called for a charge last night because she didn’t make the easy pass in a 2 on 1, and she misses more shots around the basket than any great player I’ve ever seen.

Conversely, while it’s great to help Latson learn and show how she can contribute without the ball in her hands, you can still give her the ball. We know she can get a bucket because she’s done it for three years when everybody in the building knew that was the plan. Make her the offensive focus. Let her show she can dish to much better teammates than she had at FSU when they focus on her too much.
Yep. Agree with all of this.

I live about an hour southwest of Columbia and we have a few traces of ice but otherwise it looks like any other morning -- nothing like what was being predicted. I am hearing similar stories from friends on Facebook in the Columbia area, so I think we are in the clear. I fully expect for us to play Vandy today.
The Atlanta area has been mostly spared as well. So far at least. We are thankfully close enough to that wedge of warm air sitting over Alabama. Charlotte got a few inches of snow though. Still hearing calls for sleet/freezing rain through Sunday but nothing close to the scary predictions from earlier in the week.

My point had nothing to do with how great they were. They all got a boost in popularity from beating South Carolina.
So, in keeping with your homer logic, Aaliyah Chavez should be the next great one after the beatdown of SC the other night?

lol why so confrontational? Yes, I am a homer. Ya got me! I assume you don't come to the general board that often. I can be very sarcastic at times with my deadpan humor that probably doesn't translate very well to written text. Many of my posts should have a sarcasm warning label.

But I do think there is a hint of truth despite my sarcasm in the original statement. UConn and South Carolina are the two most consistently good basketball teams from the past decade, so besting the giants of this sport will always give teams/stars a boost in press, especially when they're one of our two teams. IDK if Chavez will be the next big thing, but her performance in OT against South Carolina is certainly a big stepping stone on her resume to becoming one and with that fame will come NIL deals and the such.

That's a shame. I wanted Atlanta and all of SC to be hit with a few inches of snow and ice. If we in NC have to deal with a day or two without restaurants being open... I want the rest of the South to suffer as well.

We already have to suffer with your posts... what else do you want? 🤣

This thread can be a cold place at times

As I was walking home from the game, a heavier batch of sleet and freezing rain was moving into downtown Columbia and the temperature was still 28. It's supposed to warm up overnight, so we'll see how much we get before the temperature creeps above freezing.

We're not opening until 10 in the morning, but then I'm not in the restaurant biz.

That was definitely much bettter.

Horrible, lethargic games by Latson, Edwards and Okot were replaced by solid, energetic ones.

I think the smaller lineup is a good idea when the matchup is right.

We are going to miss Raven so very badly unless there is some portal.

Dawn started a small lineup today. Is that a new thing?
It’s the first time she’s started a small lineup this year. She’s done it before in year’s past. We actually won our first championship with a 4 guard line-up after Alaina Coates got hurt. Ty Harris, Cuevas-Moore, Kaela Davis, Allisha Gray and A’ja.

Unless Maddie finds a gear she hasn’t hinted at possessing, we will not have a FF quality point guard for the first time in how long?

Not so sure about this. Raven and Maddie are very different physically. Maddie’s style screams prototypical point guard, Raven not so much. Maddie hasn’t earned the minutes yet, but that’s not unusual for young players on Dawn Staley-coached teams.

Looking ahead to next year, can we win with Maddie as full time point guard? To be determined… a story still unwritten.

1. The smaller lineup was a very shrewd adjustment to Vanderbilt's guard oriented lineup. SC responded quite favorably.
2. Vandy played well enough to beat most teams despite the 20 turnovers. They ran into a South Carolina team that was playing unconsciously with a purpose following a loss.
3. I am still not sold on South Carolina's chances of beating UConn should it come to that. IMO, no gaps were closed with yesterday's impressive victory.
4. I am still trying to figure out how Latson was such a prolific scorer at Florida State. In time, some research on youtube is in order.
5. Raven Johnson's draft stock is creeping up. Her defense is better than advertised. It is obvious that she studies her opponents quite thoroughly.
6. It is hard to believe that is Shea Ralph prowling the Commodore sideline. She is so calm out there. It is all but impossible to root against her.

Chances of beating UConn? No need to talk about it unless we find ourselves in that position.

Latson: New role. her assist totals have improved alot. Taking much fewer shots than at FSU. SEC defenses are better than ACC's. FSUkept the middle open for her to drive the lane. SCar keeps a big (or two) in the lane and (until yesterday's 4 guard offense) so the lane stays clogged. Note that her 3 pt percentage has improved. She didn't use up a lot of her energy playing defense at FSU. If she doesn't play defense at SCaar, she sits. I think her defense and 3 pt improvement have enhanced her draftability even though her scoring has decreased.

Hey, UConn fans, this is a South Carolina thread. Cool your jets

(If your posts are still visible, I’m not talking to you)
Nan, the Gamecocks here appreciate The Boneyard giving us our own thread. This site writ large is one of the best on the web… nonsense not tolerated, knowledgeable opinions the norm.

UConn is the defending national champion, and thumped us twice along the way to the title. As the saying goes, to be the champ, you gotta beat the champ. We’re hoping to earn that opportunity in the “big dance” this year.

Diitto. The vast majority of UComn fans who post in this thread are welcomed by us. I didn’t see what @HuskyNan deleted but I assume it was something rather rude about our program or coach. That’s rare.

UConn and South Carolina fans have enjoyed a mutual respect going back to the 2010 Papa John’s Bowl. You guys visited for friendly trash talk while the Taters tried to break up the party. Husky fans didn’t want any part of the Clemson fans and drove them off, so a friendship was born.

I’m glad our fan bases retain that mutual respect, even if both sides have their share of hotheads.

Nan, we’re grateful for the space you have allowed us to carve out here, unquestionably the best place to discuss WBB, UCONN or not. Most UCONN posters are respectful.

UCONN is still the team to beat this season. I do think sans Paige that you are more beatable this year. But I don’t think we’re going to be the team to do so…

If you guys play like you did yesterday, your team will be extremely hard for anyone to beat.
