Total G-M = 200
Henderson, Cooke, and Boston were the top minute per game (MPG) leaders last season, and that was to the team's detriment. All three players were gassed in many critical games late, and in stretches where the team played several tough games in quick succession. They all need back-up help, but will still lead the team in MPG despite getting that help this season.
Henderson being the quarterback of the team will again be #1 in MPG, but will get ample assistance from Raven, especially early in the season. Cooke oftentimes rushed herself in games and put too much on her own shoulders: she'll get a chance to come out after errors or exhaustion if that continues. Most of the newer, younger players will get more MPG than shown above in the non-conference portion of the season - used to be for a SEC team, the OOC portion was used as preparation for the much more tougher, physical conference season to come. During the SEC schedule, expect those above MPG to slide 1-2 minutes each towards the starters, as the physicality ramps up. But they (starters) should be well rested from the rotations of depth come conference season.
With Coach Staley at USC, our non-conf. schedules have been almost as tough as our conference schedule, and this is also due to the SEC slipping slightly in recent years from the level it regularly used to be. But there will also be longer stretches of days between games in the non-conf. period as well, instead of the typical 3-4-3-4-3-4 spreads of the SEC slate, so that should help too. But expect to see the starters given liberal rest during the non-conference slate, and the reserves given as much time to show their stuff as they want, in all but the most critical of games.
Beal and Saxton will be the starters with the most pressure on them to step up their games, with talented reserves behind them in Rivers and Amihere. Cardoso was brought in to give Boston more minutes of rest, and they may start out 50-50 to start the season, but Boston should start gaining some of those minutes back as the SEC season begins. When Grissett returns to active duty, she'll take minutes at the 2 and 3 spots.....
