Five (5) player slots per game, 40 minutes per game: 5 x 40 = 200 total game-minutes (G-M):

Henderson - 23
Cooke - 19
Beal - 15
Saxton - 15
Boston - 20

Johnson - 13
Russell - 12
Rivers - 14
Amihere - 17
Cardoso - 18

Littleton - 5
Thompson - 4
Hall - 9
Wesolek - 5
Feagin - 11
______________
Total G-M = 200

Henderson, Cooke, and Boston were the top minute per game (MPG) leaders last season, and that was to the team's detriment. All three players were gassed in many critical games late, and in stretches where the team played several tough games in quick succession. They all need back-up help, but will still lead the team in MPG despite getting that help this season.

Henderson being the quarterback of the team will again be #1 in MPG, but will get ample assistance from Raven, especially early in the season. Cooke oftentimes rushed herself in games and put too much on her own shoulders: she'll get a chance to come out after errors or exhaustion if that continues. Most of the newer, younger players will get more MPG than shown above in the non-conference portion of the season - used to be for a SEC team, the OOC portion was used as preparation for the much more tougher, physical conference season to come. During the SEC schedule, expect those above MPG to slide 1-2 minutes each towards the starters, as the physicality ramps up. But they (starters) should be well rested from the rotations of depth come conference season.

With Coach Staley at USC, our non-conf. schedules have been almost as tough as our conference schedule, and this is also due to the SEC slipping slightly in recent years from the level it regularly used to be. But there will also be longer stretches of days between games in the non-conf. period as well, instead of the typical 3-4-3-4-3-4 spreads of the SEC slate, so that should help too. But expect to see the starters given liberal rest during the non-conference slate, and the reserves given as much time to show their stuff as they want, in all but the most critical of games.

Beal and Saxton will be the starters with the most pressure on them to step up their games, with talented reserves behind them in Rivers and Amihere. Cardoso was brought in to give Boston more minutes of rest, and they may start out 50-50 to start the season, but Boston should start gaining some of those minutes back as the SEC season begins. When Grissett returns to active duty, she'll take minutes at the 2 and 3 spots.....
Don't underestimate the talent of Cardosa, she has great hands, can catch almost anything. She also doesn't bring the ball down when rebounding on the offensive glass will go back up with the shot.

Didn’t we already discuss Amihere at the 3 in depth in the OTHER Gamecock thread? Why is this discussion back from the grave?

Another poster brought up she thought she could be a 3.

I can't see Denstanni, Zia and Aliyah getting less than 25 minutes per game on average unless we're blowing out the competition and they just sit for like half the game. They're too essential to the team to have on the bench for half a game! I think we go with a two squad concept where those players get intimately familiar with each other and we do a whole team switch in the 2nd quarter for like 5 minutes and again in the 4th. Amihere, Cardoso and Rivers will be the first players off the bench to relieve the starters. Feagin, Littleton and Hall will get a few minutes throughout the game but mostly play sparingly during the last two minutes of each half (if we're winning). Wesolek and Thompson will play only in the waning minutes of games that we have comfortable leads.

*Predicted "Garnet" squad

Whoever you put out on the floor, when you play Tennessee put the hammer down and don't let up. Coaches are fair game when it comes to criticism, but Tennessee fans take it to another level when it comes to Dawn and Geno.

That's definitely not what we call playing Clemson. I don't even like it for the one baseball game.

one thing to keep in mind about the playing time and minutes is this is an absurdly difficult non-conference schedule.

With Duke and Stanford also having been mentioned as effort involved that could really be something.

Saw that Rivers and Hall both self claimed 6'1 and Cardoso 6'7 in their back to school photos.

Another quality non-conference slate - we'll be strong contenders again for another national leading SOS/RPI this season....

That sounds about right for Rivers and Hall. Hall looks like she grew a few inches over the summer. They're about the same height in photos.

with the caveat that SC was maybe a missed put back away from the title last season, I'm not sure last year's level of offense from Saxton and Beal can play many minutes together.

Beal adding consistent shooting to her game would solve all of that. That's her missing link, imo.

I kind of doubt that there is an immediate better option. I think the freshmen will need time to feel their way, but we will see.
I think LA will take some of both player's minutes next season and start over Victaria.

Also Cardoso is the 2nd tallest player on the team. Apparently Thompson had a slight growth spurt and is 6'10.

I commend your program for putting NC A&T on the schedule. I know its a long shot, but it would be cool if it were a home and home. With State, and A&T.... yall minus well go ahead and put Duke and High Point on the schedule.... so yall can face the top 4 teams in the state of Big Carolina.

Yeah here it is.

Raven hiding her height...

everyone looks in good shape. Interesting to see whether the juniors improved more this off-season than last when covid shut it down.

Anybody know if wbb is doing a "secret scrimmage" this year against an outside opponent ? In the past they played one against ODU.

I'm trying to read between the lines. 10 of 14 non-conference games confirmed. It looks like November is mostly filled. I think there is one open slot after Battle 4 Atlantis. Has it been confirmed that NC State is the season opener?

So it looks like we're mostly trying to fill up December with 3-4 more games or possibly one in November of which Duke and Stanford could become candidates?

As for the minutes distribution I agree with most of the replies here, in that Boston, Henderson and Cooke will continue to be the key players for the team this upcoming season. I also agree with one poster who said that their extended minutes were the downfall of the team. I think the added depth will help reduce the loads for these three ladies.

Having said all that, I actually believe that Beal, based on the assumption that her offensive game has improved along with her confidence to the the point that she is no longer the fifth option on the floor, will be the player with the most minutes on the team. She's so good at everything else, especially defense (very important for Dawn) that I can't see her losing much minutes especially with Lele gone for much of the season unless someone like Rivers or Hall is really killing it early on.

The biggest wildcards that will really set this team apart from others are the rotational players who didn't start last season along with Cardoso. Specifically Amihere, Littleton and Russell. I still hold that Amihere has the biggest upside of any player on the team, it's just a matter of putting it all together, her significant minutes and impact for Team Canada should give her a new found confidence. Cardoso's upside is almost on par to Amihere but I hadn't watched enough of her games besides a handful of Syracuse games and the Americup to gauge if she's on par to become the next Cambage or Griner. Littleton another year removed from her surgery an off-season of conditioning could see her finally see her potential as an elite scorer. Then there's Russell who Dawn thinks highly of, but as the lone Freshman last season she didn't get much playing time, I wouldn't be surprised if she's more impactful than some here have suggested. I doubt she came back here to sit on the bench, I think she'll come with a chip on her shoulder and really surprise some folks.

As for the freshman, I feel like at least one of the guards should make a impact. I think Raven's game is a perfect supplement to Henderson's and should get decent minutes and Rivers/Hall will minutes likely come depending on the play of Russell/Littleton and perhaps Beal. Whereas Feagin will likely some minutes rounding out the 4 and likely some 5 if the matchup allows it.

Overall I think this team has a lot of potential and talent and could go a number of different ways and still succeed.

Cardoso has great hands and runs as well as anyone on the team and is 6'7. I think she might have the most upside on the team.

then there is the 6'5 All American who hasn't yet shown a dominant post offense game, has been extending her range, and might be in the best shape of her life.

I will take both as higher upside players personally.
