Oh man, I really gotta get in the car.
And wear your hiking shoes/sneakers. Depending on where you park and how you get to the stadium, there are some noticeable elevation challenges around Mitchie. At least for those of us not so well "conditioned" for them.

Amry has lost at 9-1 Coastal Carolina by 10, 8-2 UTSA at home by 3 in OT, 7-3 Air Force neutral site by 6, and 8-2 Troy at home by 1. They are a good team and they will present a big challenge to UConn.

So they've lost to teams that are good in the Sunbelt and CUSA by reasonable margins. The key word in that sentence remains lost. We've beaten teams that play on much bigger and better stages. And they've beaten no one.

I have the utmost respect for Army's student athletes, and I don't think so highly of UConn that we couldn't lose to anybody. But I still don't understand why everyone wouldn't expect UConn to be in a competitive, close game. By the way -- Air Force lost to Utah State and is 3-3 in MWC, behind both Fresno State and Utah State in the standings.

Here's the only statistic that's meaningful to me: we're 5-5 against FBS competition, they're 1-6, and their one win wasn't against an opponent anywhere near as good as three of teams we've beaten. I expect to be saying we've beaten 4 decent teams by late Saturday afternoon regardless of any cumulative statistics that are thrown out at us.
I like this and agree but...................................... I think you should have added..... wait.
I rest my case. ;)

Sorry for any confusion. I'm getting in the car to drive to Rhode Island to bet on UConn. With a stop at Tree House on the way home.

This team is more than capable of beating Army. The determining factor will be whether they can come out with with intensity and sustain it. They have spent a lot of emotional energy in the last few weeks between BC and Liberty. If the keep their eye on the prize (the first winning season in 12 years), they will be ready.

We cannot let Army set the tone on its first possession with a 15 play, 80-yard TD drive that uses about eight minutes of the first quarter. We will need some quick stops early.
HCJM says he has to keep the offense on the field... Could lead to some more aggressive play calling than we are used to.

I hope to see Charlton second half play calling. We used up the clock pretty well and kept Liberty offense off the field

Yeh, I like the idea that he's at least thinking of trying to protect the defense rather than just riding them into the ground. I'm starting to think he knows a thing or two... ;)

I'm picking the Huskies but one of the reasons for the 10 point spread is that (according to a Vegas Insider) Mora will never have faced the triple option before this Saturday's game.

Doesn't CT have sports gambling now?

Do you think all the sports books who have UConn as a 10 point underdog get that deep in their analysis? I honestly didn't think they would put that much weight on one element of the match up.

Mora has been around a long time....the guy knows defense...I am not worried at all he will figure out how to defend the triple option.

But...maybe that does explain the spread....along with Army playing tough in their losses.

Can't bet on CT sports teams from inside the state boundaries. Nearly all states with legal sports gambling have similar provisions.

One theory is that it is a half hearted attempt to prevent point-shaving.

Yes, but Mora has mentioned that he has assistants that have both coached it and coached against it. I had heard enough.

Does anyone have stats that shows what percentage of their snaps have been a triple option play? I ask because I watched their game against Air Force and they really didn't run the triple option much at all. Just lots of designed QB runs.

If you have never experienced game day at Michie it's fantastic. Try to be there. But for those planning to attend for the first time I thought I'd pass along some of my impressions as a first timer there last year, minus the actual game analysis.

First, finding your way to Michie from CT is not so straightforward, at least for me. I got a little lost even with GPS assistance. After finding my way, though, and navigating the various side roads approaching the USMA, we came to the armed security guards. All wore BDUs and were obviously armed and ready to go. My son, (a Marine who I visited at Camp Pendleton several times) still found that a bit eye opening. So, my tip to anyone going to the game this weekend is not to do anything that might cause them to pull you over. ;-)

From there, our very short, pre-game tailgate was relatively uneventful, basically eating pre-made subs and drinking a quick beverage. Not ideal. Without parking reservations made for a better lot (another tip), my son and I had to park in the lower lot (maybe the lowest) near the Hudson River and some railroad tracks. All good though, as there were lots of Husky fans there.

However, I noted we had to be several hundred feet of elevation below where I assumed the stadium was. which is not so great when you're trying to unwind from a 2 hr drive from CT and an earlier flight from TX. Luckily, there were shuttle buses nearby to take fans like us to and from the stadium.

Once finally situated in our seats the pre-game activities were awesome with the Corps of Cadets filing into the stadium, the fly overs by the Sikorsky Blackhawks, and the Golden Knights parachute team circling and jumping into the stadium.

Skipping over the actual game, which was horrible, is a final tip. Beware of the big roundabout several miles after you leave the USMA if you're heading south to CT. I literally circled it 4 times, no joke, trying to decide which exit to take. It's 3-4 lanes deep and I somehow got in the innermost lane, so beware. My son was in stitches and couldn't talk after the 3rd time around. I'm sure I short circuited my GPS because she failed to speak again after the 3rd time around.

I hope these tips help and the final score of this week's game is way different this year in favor of the Huskies. Wish I could be there.

Both of those teams are so well versed in every nuance of the triple option that it stands to reason they’d run it fewer times against each other. But all the rest of us have rarely or never played against it’s sleight of hand motion, cut blocks and rare surprise pass to a wide open receiver. It’s easy for our D backs to get lulled into inertia when they don’t see a pass come their way for half the game. It’s tough to simulate in practice. This year Army has struggled—but they never quit coming at you. Our defense will be on edge all game. Hopefully our offense will be clicking and can score early and often.

I hear ya, but I have to think that Army would play to their strength regardless of who the opponent is. That's why I asked whether anyone has the facts of how much they've run the triple leading into the Air Force game. I'll try to dig out highlights of those games.

I always remember the quote from the coach of the Chinese ping pong team(during a span of a decade of team dominance against the rest of the world) when asked why he didn't develop a certain players backhand, he said if I play to the strength of said player (i.e. his forehand), it won't matter how good or not his backhand is...

I know football is different than ping pong but his point is a good one - you will win by leveraging your strengths.

Ball control, scoring, and a disciplined back 7.

The option does not come from behind very well.

Ball control for UConn doesn't necessarily mean run the ball, JDL style, either. It mean string multiple first downs together and keep the clock moving.
