Regardless of the refereeing, this was if not an epic fail, damn close to it. Whatever it is they're telling Stewart to do, she does not seem to be doing it. Shooting way too fast, for one thing. They got her going to the basket way too late in the game, and the end of the game is not the time to be trying long shots to open up the inside game.

I'm not enough of an analyst to know exactly why it happened as much as it did, but all too often, ND was able to get an outside shooter loose for either a step back or an open shot in the corner. And as someone else suggested, maybe a hard practice right before the game was not a good idea. If it was designed to get the players to play slower during the game, it clearly did not succeed. Could it be that this once, Geno got outcoached?

It was not outcoaching... it was allowing ND to play the refs like they always do. This game was physical. The women's game has become too physical as of late. Something needs to be done about that. In additional to that, they need to stop calling the acted out fouls. Diggins should get an emmy for her performance.

You know why they were playing like crap, I've told you twenty times.

That's 5 out of 6, including 2 at UConn and 2 in the NCAAs. I hate losing to those guys!
I'll go one better. I just plain hate them. Always have despised ND from the Ruth Riley days - who is the player who got away with more travels than any other player - heck most other teams in total. One of my few feel good moments was when Criqui was saying that after ND leaves the BE they want to continue to play UConn, but UConn has told them their dance card is full. Ima thinkin Geno doesn't like them much either.

ND seems to have our number. Their style of play and mental toughness hurt us again.

The replay will hurt more...Mabrey's credited 3 with 4:41 left was clearly a 2, but the refs never even checked.

Was Bria's 3 pointer at the end of the half important now??? Did anyone ever check Mabrey's questionable 3?

I checked it it was fine. She jumped from outside the line by 5" and landed inside.

ND Guards outplayed the UConn guards. They kept Hartley out of the game in the 2nd half. KML turning her ankle didn't help but she did have two wide open 3's in the last minute that could have won the game. The miss with a minute left that would have put UConn up 4 was critical. Kept ND in the game and Diggins made her free throws.

According to ESPN Gamecast:
ND UConn
Rebounds 33 42
Assists 12 21
Blocks 4 9
Turnovers 14 14
Fouls 16 17
Largest lead 9 5
Shooting 25/66 28/71
3pt Shooting 6/12 5/23
Free Throws 17/24 11/14

DD's analysis was off on this one. That is pretty rare.

This was a home game and how many balls hit the rim and just bounced away. ND goes to the line 10 more times then UConn 24 to 14 which is a pattern that keeps games close and allows ND to win.

I don't think so Ice, her lead foot is very close to the line, but not close enough for me to call it either way .

Say what you will. Among the top 5 teams, I think any one team could beat any of the others on any given day. I am not sure at this point there is any clear cut favorite for the National Championship.
I'm not sure Duke has proven themselves, but they have talent in abundance.

ND over UConn.

UConn over Stanford.

Stanford over Baylor.

Baylor over ND.

No clear pattern there!

Notable points: less than 1/3 3s which is usually Geno's shutdown point. FT differential is the big thing. ND way over performed on 3pt shooting. To date they have been a weak 3pt team.

ICE: What was the time mark on that shot? I want to go back and look too.

The pattern is...there is no pattern.

We were outshot from the arc. That was a surprise.

The FT differential is getting old, very old. It's how ND is an elite team. They are very good, but seem to get over 60% of the questionable calls.
