Furman Postgame Thread

Agree the timing wasn’t good, and better to resist shooting at that moment, but he was so wide open, and it was a shorter 3-point shot not a 35-footer, I’d probably have shot it myself. Don’t they say shooters have to shoot?
FWIW that shot was 33 ft away. It was the longest shot any player took that game. According to CBBD data Braylon is shooting 6/29 from 27+ ft.

On a positive note, it is another hard fought win. Like all other hard fought wins, Hurley tells us how well coached and great the team is that we just beat. But this time, our opponent can’t get obliterated in their next game. Furman is done so we can move on thinking they are great and we got another quality win. If only Villanova didn’t make the tournament.

Yes, it’s not 2002, so staying in college one more year to develop and get stronger SHOULD be a more viable option due to NIL money.

And Braylon isn’t having a “stretch” of bad games; he’s been pretty “meh” much of the year. IMO, he’s making Liam look like Steph, in terms of freshman years, and, at this point, you have to wonder whether Liam is at least a little anxious about his prospects for NBA success.
NBA teams don’t want you staying college. Lotto picks and high first rounders gain nothing staying college even if you’re getting a couple mill to do so. Sure if he drops to the second round maybe it’s a good idea to stay, but I don’t thinks that’s the case.

Still recovering from getting home at 2:30am last night.

What a performance by Tarris! Watching his stats go up on the Jumbotron was like watching a pinball game for two hours.

The play we get at the 2 and 3 as a whole has just been disappointing. Not really any other way to say it. There’s been so little development from the starters as the year has gone on. I keep hearing over and over how we can’t keep shooting this bad from three, the law of averages, etc but it sure feels like we’re on the edge of one or both of these guys shooting us right out of the tournament.

I hope I am wrong but I am really nervous about tomorrow.

Wilkins would solve a lot of issues next to Demary
Wilkins is from Mattapan which is right down the road from me and within Boston. Whether he is willing to play back up or not or have his role reduced is the question.

If I’m about to invest a high pick in a guy with potential but still requires a lot of development, it would sure give me pause that he really didn’t seem to develop at all this year.

He does foul a lot. Of course, he got 2 phantom fouls last night. Announcers noted it, replay showed it.
Rebie's defensive game has moved to holding early against his man and reaching in too much. That was not his game several months ago. What happened?

Tarris and AK on their way to round 2

Game looks a lot like Wagler’s - more of a big set shooter who is smooth off bounce, and plays with good instincts. Will he really curious to where he ends up.

Honestly, he hit some tough shots - but I was maybe more impressed that he put two alley oops on a dime moving at full speed. Sorta miss that from our guards.

Not sure if his game will translate, but you look at him and you see his length and his skill and potential. And then you look at Nowell, who is small and isn’t getting off the bench any more at VCU either, and it makes you wonder about these evaluations.

I also hope your wrong and hand my hat on the fact that we are down 10-17 points with the loss of Demery and Stu. If Rebie is able to reduce his fouls, he might also contribute 6-10 points and provided needed rest for Reed. We had two offensive players play their A+ game and that provided a smooth 10+ point win. This was a good solid win with only three offensive players on the court most of the time. UCLA didn't look all that imposing in their opening game.

Reibe just needs to keep his hands above his head, not reach, wall up and rebound. Obviously Tarris was going as long as he could possibly go last night but Reibe was brutal. I would expect him to be better tomorrow.

StL kid is in the paint with Mara on him, and he walks because he doesn't know what to do with the ball.
Sadly I think the only thing stopping UM is some UConn March Magic. They’re the best team by a good margin right now. Cadeau becoming a knock down shooter has made them even more impressive.

St Louis looks good btw. Just not enough imo

Alex was 4-9 from three. Instead of hoping Solo and Mullins get their shot back, feed the hot hand.

He won’t have to play back up. He’s 6’5. Play him next to Silas like Tristen had Cam and Steph
That's why I said "or a reduced role" because his role will be reduced and he won't have a green light to shoot whenever he wants. I am not against getting him if the staff feels like his game can carryover to the Big East's physicality.

Yeah they do - and McKenney is a player - freshman built like a senior.

We'll see - I like AZ, a more balanced and consistent team. Michigan's A game may be higher, they're just inconsistent and play with food.

You stay up till 1:00 am to watch a nail-biter and possibly the greatest single performance by a UConn Husky ever and THIS was your single take away?????
Yes, as I watched him race behind AK to defend a 3pt shot while his man got a pass while under the basket. I'm just tired of hearing the accolades directed to him and complaints about the others as if he is playing perfectly. If he was THAT good, he should start.

It won’t be reduced. Let Silas keep playing facilitator. This kid would play the Cam Spencer role. His job would be to get buckets and be the secondary play maker. His usage is going to go down no matter where he goes. Because he’s going to be playing with better players.

The evals the last couple years have been highly questionable. It's been my major "concern". Hurley has gone over the deep end with one specific profile, overloading to think his system can work it, when reality is opponents adapt and you make yourself very prone to what we've seen this year.

There is something to be said about balance and breaking the will of the opponent - it's hard to do that with only three point shots.

I think Hurley has cashed a good amount of his chips in on this junior class the last couple of years. A junior year solo Ball leap solves a lot of these issues we are having. Instead he has regressed.

I trust Hurley to make the necessary adjustments. He’s done it before.
