Friday March Madness Games

I never cease to be amazed at how terrible D1 college coaches can be in the last minute of the game. Clemson's last 40 seconds were brutal. I can't believe Clemson just let Rutgers run the clock down to 10 seconds. They effectively conceded a 2 point game with 37 seconds left.
They might have had a chance if they forced a turnover or gotten a rebound with 7-8 seconds left, but giving up a layup at the end of the shot clock was just brutal.

Happy for Pikiell. Clemson were obvious frauds. Never again should they be allowed a top 10 seed

.-.
With a 6 second differential and no timeouts, Rutgers could have taken a long 3 at the shot block buzzer, and as long as it hit the rim, Clemson would have probably needed to shoot from half court to win.

Rutgers also wasn‘t in the bonus, so you could have forced them to shoot one and ones three times.

Foul.

"San Diego St. in rhythm for the first time in a while"
Airball 3
"That's his spot, he practices it all the time..."

Also make them inbound the ball cleanly several times, as Clemson had fouls to give. Horrible decision to play it out.

Lol I took the Syr-SDSU under. Guys unconscious now.

50 points in 1H. 90 in 2H.

The teams combined made the last 6 3s in the last 2 minutes. OMG.

.-.
Clemson is a poster child for why recency matters. They were 10-6 vs Q1/Q2, but 5-1 through Jan 5 and 5-5 since.

This is true, but the incessant fouling in the last minute of games is the worst part about college basketball. All of those intentional fouls should result in an actual penalty against you, not a reward by making the other team have to shoot 2 free throws and lose possession. Football teams concede the game down by one score all the time with a minute left.

Football - commit a penalty, give away yards.
Hockey - commit a penalty, now you're shorthanded
Basketball - commit a penalty, you get the ball right away. Doesn't make sense.

They should change the rule, at least in the last few minutes of the game. Every time you foul someone, perhaps intentionally, 10 seconds comes off the clock. You want to foul with 30 seconds left? Fine. Now there are 20 seconds left. Foul with 20 seconds left? Maybe they get 3 or 4 free throws. The fouls suck. Who's with me.

I hate when people say stupid ignorant crap like this. Would you rather watch a team stand around for 30 seconds? It’s an integral part of the strategy of basketball. Ask Creighton if it was stupid to foul RJ Cole when he missed both free throws

I hate when people think trying to steal a game they lost by fouling is a good strategy. The strategy for the entire game is not to foul. So trying to foul to win the game shouldn't be anywhere near a "strategy." Don't stand around. Play defense and steal the ball.

You made my point. Creighton was actually rewarded by fouling, when it should be punished. See post #349.

Very good performance by Nova. With North Texas next, they have a strong shot at the Sweet 16. If they get by Baylor the bottom of their bracket is chaos.
