Florida 84 Tenn 59 final

Not unlike UCONN losing Paige, Tennessee has been struggling after the injury to Tamari Key. Not unlike UCONN, Tennessee is struggling. What does it say about all the glee at someone else's issues? What will it say about UCONN, if they lose to TENN?
Not Tamari Key, their starting center who is healthy. I am guessing their backup center Keyen Green who is thought of as an emotional leader? Their loss by 25 points was not because of 1 backup player. Paige's case is very very different. On the other hand, Burrell earlier in the season was theoretically a big loss but it did not seem to make that much of a difference on the court.

Tamari Key?? She did play against Florida: 26 minutes, 8 rebounds, 8 points.

I'll celebrate after we beat TN. Tennessee's biggest problem right now is ...chemistry. The fans will tell you it's the loss of Green, but I'm not buying it. Before I believe ratings, rankings, polls...whatever you want to call it...I believe my eyes.

Since Rae returned...they have digressed. Not saying it's her fault, but it's related. My eyes tell me she and Horston are in a pssing match. There's a struggle over the ball on offense, most notably since Rae's best game at Arkansas. She wants her crown back. Problem is...Horston thinks it looks better on her. She's on the Wooden Awards list...scored 5 points and had 3 rebounds against an unranked team. She took 2 fewer shots than Rae.

In the game last night...in the first qtr, they never pass to one another, never speak to one another and both turn the ball over multiple times pressing on offense. Harper yanked both...Rae first. Rae was clearly frustrated and was out of control. Harper mostly communicates with Horston on what to run on the floor..telling me Harper sees Horston and not Rae as her extension. Rae must be thinking about her draft stock and can't be happy.

I don't think Rae is 100% and returned too early.

A couple of Tennessee fans posited the teams fortunes with Burrell's playing.
When she was lost, due to injury, the team responded and played quite well, and for an extended period of time. Their level of play seems to have fallen with Burrell's return to the lineup. It could be coincidence (correlation is not causation), or it could be a problem in refitting Burrell into the lineup.

Can't Horston and Burell just split their duties and do what they do best

Horston T/Os, bad decisions, missing 3pt shots
Burrell Everything else.

I feel dirty now. :oops::oops:

Per the Vol board, Key is playing injured.

Have watched Tenn play several times this year and teams with a transition game seem to do well against them. Key's rebounding vital but lately she has seemed like she was playing at 80% speed. Don't know why but hope the Auburn and Florida losses, coupled with the UConn name, do not wake her or Tenn up. She has played a role their comebacks against Top20 teams. Teams appear evenly matched.

This cleanup starts with Harper. She better sit them both down...in the same room. SOON.

I love reading Volnation at times like this.
It's so very entertaining.

Hey, that was my reaction. :D

I didn't watch but this was an unexpected beatdown. Florida seems to be playing the best they have in years and keep knocking off some solid teams. The games I watched with UT earlier this year showed a team that still had weaknesses but seemed to find ways to cover for them through relentless rebounding, strong defense, and was starting to have some swagger back. After losing 2 out of 3 games to weaker SEC teams they are likely on their heels.

Sunday should be a good game.

It's not just "someone else", it's TN. If you can't have glee about TN's misfortune, you have no right being a UCONN fan.

I am surprised that only a few posters seem to realize that the Vols downward slide is not in UConn's best interest this season. It appears too many are allowing their personal vendetta to cloud their reason. Lets review. Because of covid cancellations UConns usually strong out of conference schedule has been diminished. They needed to play a highly rated Tenn, win or lose, for strength of schedule purposes. They had also scheduled UCLA which is usually a top team but due to massive injuries is doing very badly in conference play. They needed a win over a strong Tenn team for rating purposes. Now it leaves them in a no win situation. If hey win it will count very little and if they lose it will be a dagger. Playing in a weak league can be mitigated if you are undefeated or have played a strong out of conference schedule. At this point Uconn has neither.. They are going to have to rely on getting healthy for the NCAA's and having a harder path than normal for them. This is just what a lot of other teams have had to do for years.

Obviously looking past Florida anticipating beating an underdog injured Uconn team:p
What's the excuse for losing to Auburn and going into overtime against Arkansas the previous 2 games

.-.
I know seeding is a factor come tournament time, but you have to win the games that are on the schedule. With the way this season has gone, it is more important to win the games regardless of who the opponent is.

UConn is not going to be a one seed. They're not going to be a five seed. So what really matters now is the potential matchups in whatever bracket they end up in. And it would be nice to have home court advantage in Bridgeport.

So, we go into Sunday’s game with two teams struggling to find 4 consecutive quarters of consistency. Two teams where the quality of the players are greater than the sum of the team instead of the opposite and the way it should be. Which team will get it together? We won’t learn anything about UCONN tonight since Butler would lose this game if UCONN didn’t take the floor till the 4th quarter.

Hard to predict the outcome of this game. If Tennessee loses again, they plummet in the polls and rankings but have a chance to redeem themselves with a few big wins in the toughest conference. If UCONN loses, they will drop a bit but will have little chance of improving beating up on BE competition.

UCONN wins with a 3 point buzzer beater by NIKA who had gone 0 for 9 till then.

Edit: just saw the Butler game cancelled thread.

You get the rivalry thing, right?

We cannot take the Vols lightly. If Liv gets in foul trouble against Key, we will have
a difficult time dealing with their length. Coming of a beat down, they will be ready.

Florida FG % 53.2 U of Tenn 37.5 %
for TENN T Key 8 points
R. Burell 9 points
Horston 5 points
for Florida Kiara Smith 25 points
Did anyone see the game?? What happened??
Good D? Florida too quick for them??
Pretty much TN turnovers led to, I think, 28 FL points.

One more thing... it's not like the rest of WBB is playing lights out, with exception of SoCar and Stan. There have been a lot of upsets to teams 3 through 15 or more and many close calls in the last few weeks. UCONN really wants to win vs Tenn for many reasons, but they will remain a top 4 somewhere regardless of outcome Sunday. BUT of course WIN is best no matter what the Committee thinks about Tenn.;)

Go Huskies

NOTHING like losing Paige…the best player in WCBB!

They are gonna put teams where they want to and find whatever logorithm, formula, NET ranking or Charlie Creme fiction novel they need to back it up. When the Committee had Tennessee a No. 1 seed, Texas a No. 2 and Kansas St. a No. 4 in their January bracket it was clear to me that the only thing that matters is what the Committee wants to matter. You can make statistics say whatever you want them to say. For example, records, rankings and statistics will show a win by Texas over Iowa St. But it was an Iowa St. without Ashley and Aubrey Joens. Not the same thing. At the same time they say UConn lost to an unranked team in Georgia Tech. But they are ranked now. And not just jumping in the back for a week at a time, but climbing. The game is not played on paper. So play Tennessee because they have a good team and it makes you better. Win because you're playing good basketball and you don't like them and you want to beat them. Playing and winning to try to impress people that can't find their way home without a map is a waste of energy. Schedule and play to be the best you can.
