First Day of Games (11/7/)

So...Oregon St. wasn't very good last year. They had a bunch of outgoing transfers after the season. 2 started the first game for Duke, 1 started the first game for Michigan, and I'm expecting another to be a starter for Texas. I don't think there was a lack of talent in Corvallis. Not sure exactly what went wrong.

I thought Jackson State was supposed to be good. They got the brakes beaten offa them by 30 down in Chapel Hill.
They will probably end up being decent down the road but they truly lost a lot between losing Rogan and Williams-Holiday. I watched briefly but definitely didn't look like the team I watched last year. Chemistry looked much different.

Should I be worried that the same Hawaii team that took Oregon St. to the wire just got thumped by Portland?
I saw the Pilots were picked 2nd in the WCC preseason poll, so maybe they're just a good team.

I like UP. Fowler has been a stud since Day 1 and now she's a Sr. Cochrane was a nice pickup as a transfer. I think the Pilots are a good team. The knock was more against Oregon St. than Portland.

Although...even in the midst of their dark ages, Washington has regularly beaten the snot out of WCC teams, including upper half of the conference teams San Diego, Portland and BYU.

They're one of the few teams who put together a challenging non-conference schedule. They'll likely have a few of these games but will be better for it by the end of the season.

Yall would have lost that game last season.
You’re telling me. Actually quite a few who played were on last year’s team. They just played differently. The wife and I remarked multiple times how different the vibe was.

Haley Cavinder led the Canes with 18 today. Shooting 60% overall and from 3 in 2 games. Hanna not doing as well thus far.

Creighton vs South Dakota will be an interesting matchup out of tonight's lineup of games. Any other games I should keep an eye on?

Didn't see freshman Kyla Oldacre in the box scores of either game. Injured?

Seems like a dearth of compelling matchups. I'm curious to see the debut of the new look Arizona team. Many BYers are probably excited to see their team, regardless of who the opponent is.

With the talk of some ugly basketball from the UCLAs game earlier. The Baylor/Incarnate Ward is something else.

Baylor leads at half time 26-18. Blackwell for Baylor has 17 of the 26 points. Bad news is she picked up foul #3 before the half ended

A valiant effort by the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern comes up short. Duke 111 Charleston Southern 50

Okay, I'm officially worried about Oregon St. Going toe to toe with...mighty Seattle U? No, this is not good.

Kayla Padilla, for Penn, scored 31 points in the first game of the season for Penn.
Penn beat Marist 65-61 on the road.

I think this was probably already known, but Esmery Martinez is a rebounding machine. She probably would've taken a starting job away from Ware even if Lauren didn't get hurt.

NAU put up a good fight for about a quarter, now just getting annihilated by Arizona. Jade Loville made one of the best decisions of anyone in the country moving from Tempe to Tucson.

NC State beat Elon tonight, 89-55. It was the 1000th win for the Wolfpack Women basketball program.

Creighton had a slow start but then came alive in the 2nd quarter where they outscored South Dakota 21-3.

Remarkably, they went 2-0 on their South Dakota trip without much offensive output from Ronsiek, who was 1st team All Big East last year. Jensen did the heavy damage at Brookings, and today it was Maly (21 points) and Morgensen (16) who led the scoring at Vermillion.

I know Florida St has played no one, but Ta'Niya Latson has incredibly impressed me. One of the most impressive freshmen I have seen so far.

Arizona over Northern Arizona 113-56. Ouch. Pellington might not be quite Aari McDonald fast, but she can move. Cats went to the bench early and often, but the young kids were hungry and forced a bunch of TOs and got out in transition. Gilbert, Paris and Hylton all look like they have plenty of potential.

Okay, I can back away from the ledge. Oregon St. ran away from Seattle U. in the second half, especially in the 4th quarter. Couldn't deal with the size of Mitrovic and Beers.

Although now it seems to have been quite some time ago, I remember when OSU was annually one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the country. That definitely isn't the case these days. 2-20 today. If they had been able to knock a few down they could've won by 45 or 50, had to settle for a 36 point win.
