Vincente Ithier. I was guarding him in a pick-up game in 1982 or ‘83 and coach Don Perno was watching our run. Afterwards Perno called Vincente over and offered him a walk-on roster spot. That was the year that both Cliff Robinson and Phil Gamble flunked off the team. Vincente actually played PG for much of the Big East schedule, and was kept on for the following season.

Fast forward to the 1988 Olympics. I’m watching a basketball game featuring Puerto Rico against somebody and guess who’s bringing the ball up for PR - Vincente Ithier. So I can say I played ball with an Olympian.

Let's not forget Willimantic's own Tony Budzinski, our 6'8" center/forward of late 1960's Yankee Conference lore. Helluva guy - got to know him in the Eastern League. Very strong, Hard woker, Tough defender, rebounder & competitor for any era. A very unassuming spirit.
