As a political junkie, I will say that map is not very encouraging. Mild support in the ACC states, little support in the Big 10 states.

of course the states of north carolina and kentucky don't think so
good observation. it looks like all the states with a top ranked team says no, eg Arizona, Michigan

I'm surprised Kentucky fans stopped looking in the mirror long enough to summon the disregard to vote in this poll.

The state of Kentucky is too egotistical. 74% no 26% yes.

outside New England, our strongest believers are in ...Alabama? I guess they believe in buzzer-beaters too ;)

I'm real happy we're 8-0 but I'm not sure we're a legitimate final four contender yet. We need to beat some quality opponents with a healthy margin of victory first, and our bigs need to step it up and start rebounding the ball.

So far so good though.

They will never get over 2004. One of us should let them down nicely by telling them, "It's OK. Mike Gottfried was your coach."

How can we be a final four threat when we are clearly doomed for eternity by the powerhouse catholic conference?!?!

UConn only needs to win by one point.

Bilas has us EIGHT spots behind Florida in his 'index'. Does that make ANY sense?

We're clearly a contender. Whether we do it or not depends on any number of things. Bazz's health, luck, whether we have most of our guys (DD, OC, Giff, Boat, Kromah, etc.) shooting/playing well that time of year, matchups (not sure how we would deal with Randle if we matched up with Kentucky, for example). But to say we're not a contender is underselling us.

I think if the last 5 years have taught us anything, it's that any team in the top 50-75 can be a final four threat if they are playing well. There is just not that much difference between the teams anymore.

That said, we certainly will need to play better than we have to make it there. If I was a fan of another team, I would not be that impressed with us so far. We've been pretty sloppy for big stretches of most games. Luckily, no one will remember that in March, they'll just look at a sheet and see a bunch of W's.

Bottom line is that most games we will have the best player on the court between both teams. When your team has the best player, you have a good chance to win any game. Yes im talking about Shabazz

If a team is in or around the top 10 at tourney time, they have a legit chance to go to the Final 4 regardless of draw. But almost any team is a contender provided a good draw and a few breaks.

Need to have consistent play from the bigs if we want any chance at getting to a final 4. Florida exposed our weakness.

Why is ESPN asking this particular question? I find it sort of odd.

Out rebounded by 8 with about a dozen less points in the paint. Five points and a couple rebounds from our 3 bigs, other than being ecstatic, I don't know how we compensated for that except with Shabazz
I love the team, loved last night. I think we have something special. But we need improvement to be a F4 team. And we need it at the 5. I hope Tyler finds himself, and the other two gain strength and experience. They both will, but I hope it is soon!

Any team? Since 85, only 6 teams seeded 8 or higher (worse) have made it to the final four (6 out of 1008 teams). Only 1 of those made it to the championship game (Nova in 85). So only 1 team outside the top 30 (figuring 1-7 seeds X 4 ~ top 30) has ever won it and no others played for it. You pretty much have to be a top 25 team to have a chance.
