Entering the portal - 2026

Me neither. Any doubts anybody had about this program and staff should've ended 3 years ago
I bet there are multiple negotiations going on right now that we aren’t privy to where playing time, development, NIL, etc is being discussed at advanced levels.

Tom Moore is on this stuff during the season. There's no way we weren't doing the work behind the scenes before the portal opened. There's also no way they didn't see the possibility of Reibe not returning.
With the craziness of the portal nowadays, I'm sure one of his jobs is to essentially scout every position for making a tentative "Top 20" list for every single position for all player experiences (So. through Grad Transfer).

Odds are will be that probably 75% of those players in the list will be in the portal at the end of the season, so a lot of the prelim scouting work is done!

It's starting to look as if we'll need to go to Italy and convince Adama to come back. The NCAA won't fight it because they won't want to lose another lawsuit. We fill a gaping hole, win #7 and get ready to bring Thabeet and Drummond back for their last collegiate season..........
I'm not in favor of this at all even though he's one of my all-time favorites.

BUT how would the NCAA stop this from happening?

If anything, it would encourage a floodgate of players leaving college since they would know they can always come back.

Not much of a surprise. He's mocked in that late first, early second range.

Pretty good piece from May - he gets it.

Donnie Freeman is apparently visiting UConn on Friday. According to Twitter, Goodman said UConn is the favorite to land him but I haven’t seen anything directly from him.

Murauskas looking like a two horse race of Louisville and ASU.

I don’t think St. John’s was as mercenary as Ville would be if they get him.

May has no secret sauce. None of these guys were the slightest bit under the radar. He got guys that were in extremely high demand with massive resources at his disposal. May's good, but his smartest move was taking the job.
eh, Mara was a backup, Cadeau was coming off a majorly disappointing year, Morez was a backup and hadn’t broken out yet. Yaxel was really the only established superstar he signed. He did really good work building that roster.

He did a good job for sure but let’s not act like cadeau wasn’t top 15 coming out of high school and that the others didn’t have huge price tags. May is great but they were universally ranked as having a top 2 if not the best transfer class coming into the season.

And Mara was supposed to be a top 5 pick a couple of years ago.

dusty's talent id and just general philosophy is still worth respect. he's a great roster constructor/team concept guy, reading the competitive context well.

size, athleticism and shooting.

They all had massive interest in the portal last year.

100% - guy was a buzzer beater from taking FAU to the NCG.

Let's not forget he got UM to the S16 in his first game last year. Right now, in terms of coaches that seem to run great systems and rosters, May & Golden seem to know what they're doing. Both could be off to the NBA as well.

One thing they all were, were highly ranked coming out of HS. Sometimes kids don't take to a system or a roster. It's why I liked the kid coming out of Houston that the Zags just grabbed. Few also knows what he's doing.

Took an IU guy to win for Michigan

I would say Mick Cronin got some slpainin to do on Mara….

The story is pretty straightforward. Mara was injured, and also got sick. He was not in great shape and Cronin told him he had to get in shape to play more. Mara's issue wasn't ineffectiveness, it was that he couldn't be on the floor for more than five minutes at a time. He had a huge impact on the game when he was in. Mara left, and then did exactly what Cronin told him to do. He just did it for someone else.

Moral of the story -- even if you're giving good advice, try not to be a d!(& about it . . .

If they can lock up Hines and Freeman, we’re going to be nasty next year.
That's what I want but I hate that Freeman is visiting Kentucky before UConn. He will either take the big offer from Kentucky or he will show he's really serious about becoming a better basketball player and winning if he leaves and meets with Hurley at UConn. Either way we'll know by the end of the week.

This may be a hot take but I’m not the biggest fan of Hines. A slightly undersized center who averaged 6 and 5 on a bad team is not someone I’m super excited about being our starting center

Thats a fine stat line for a freshman off the bench in 18 mins a game. He’s obviously not going to be Tarris Reed but no one is..

He had a 16.4% block rate, second in the country. For context, Aday Mara, who wrecked any chance of us going into the paint in the championship game, had an 11.9% block rate (6th). Opposing teams shot 48.6% at the rim when he was in the game, which is crazy low.

He also was one of the best rebounders in the country on a per possession basis.

Here is his scoring efficiency and BPM compared to the rest of his team:

He reclassed up, but he was awesome in AAU right before he committed. Blew up at Peach Jam, led his team to the finals. Was due for a big bump in the HS recruiting rankings.

He is a bit undersized height wise but his defense is awesome, great offensive rebounder, can dunk through people, non-stop motor, looks to have good touch, 69% from the ft line is pretty good for a freshman big. He also only really started focusing on basketball his junior year of high school. Holloway simply didn't use him enough or use him well. Holloway doesn't run much of an offense. I love what I've seen from Hines and I think he's probably just scratching the surface. Danny and staff could make him a force.

I wouldn't call Seton Hall a bad team. They were just inside the top 25 at one point and they could've made the tournament if they just got one or two resume wins they needed.
