IOWA was tied with UCLA in the final seconds of the game. UCLA had the ball & they set a pick play. Lucy Olsen tripped over the picker's extended leg into the ball handler. A foul was called on Lucy & UCLA sunk the free throws to win the game.
Many pundits on social media insisted that the pick was illegal because a leg was extended leading to the trip. Of course, they compared it to the controversial foul call on Alliyah Edwards at the end of last season's Final Four game, claiming that UCLA's pick was more blatant than UCONN's pick.
The conclusion was that these calls are arbitrary & inconsistent, depending on the referee.

If the leg moved it's a foul on the picker.

It’s also an illegal screen if the feet are wider than shoulder width

Yeah, that looked like a mistaken call. I’m not sure I’d compare it to the call against Aaliyah last year. The initial replays from last season’s game made it look like a ticky-tack foul. But later replays from other angles showed it to be a moving screen and not a mistaken call.

Once they missed the obsevation / call on an illegal UCLA screen (which they did, how ironic} then they pretty much had to make the more obvious call on Olson’s non defensive position causing the second trip- up. Bottom line? Agree, Refs blew it.

Wow this picture makes it very clear. The game is over, but I wonder if controversy over this call will affect voters in the poll. Instead of a win is a win, they may view this more as a gift to UCLA than any kind of accomplishment. Considering the margin was expected to be much greater anyway, I think this game should hurt UCLA's standings in the polls.

It might have hurt UCLA's ranking, but Notre Dame's loss probasbly gives them a mulligan.
And Texas could be unanimous #1.

How would it hurt their poll ranking? They came in at #3. Would they drop below #4 USC, who lost at Iowa? In any event, ND lost and so will likely drop a couple spots at least.

As depicted in the photo the screener Angela Dugalic sets an illegal screen. Viewed from the opposite side in the Peacock stream it appears the photo posted has been edited. Dugalic does not extend her right leg in the manner shown in the grainy photo. That’s not to say Dugalic shouldn’t have been called for an illegal pick but the official on the sideline below the play has a straight on view and chose not to call an offensive foul.

Also in the photo above the official disappeared and two gentlemen in white and gray shirts appear in place of the three women in the video screenshot standing behind the official. Doctored photo.

This doesn't suggest an edited photo to me. Also, these pics show even more clearly that it was a moving screen. I'm as surprised as you that the official behind the play didn't call it. I know, it's a bang-bang play, etc. But it's really bad to end a game like this on the free throw line. I'd think the refs would have swallowed the whistle rather than go as far as to award game deciding free throws.

She just has really wide shoulders, about 5 feet wide. Clear to see. Are you blind?
I think they just confused units. The shoulders are about three axe-handles wide. The feet are three axe-handles apart. But the axe handles used to measure the shoulders are hatchets, and those used for the feet are those you might see in a lumberjack competition. ;)
