2026 Recruiting: Dylan Mingo Official Visit this weekend!

Mingo shut down Kansas' top recruit and outplayed him when their teams met.

Gotta think Mingo's D is underrated and he probably is a rhythm 3 shooter - like when the ball is swung around to him finally and his defender has to make up space.

I would imagine Cloer and Toure are being recruited for the same spot.
That makes sense. Mingo, Cloer, and County are the preferred trio. And I don't think Toure cannot replace County (and certainly not Mingo).

I'm assuming it's going to be 1 guard and 1 wing, based on multiple coaches talking about smaller recruiting classes in the future.

Guard: Mingo, County
Wing: Samuels, Toure, Cloer, Landrew, Howard

Big and any other needs coming from the portal.

AS we know Malachi Smith is outta here next year, and maybe Solo too, maybe Mullins also, Demary will test the waters. There is a lot of movement there. Mingo could play with any of the aforementioned players and be a huge part of next year's backcourt.
We also lose AK, Reed, Millender, Koroma to eligibility so with Smith that is 5 guaranteed roster spots open.

While this year we have depth at PG and the wing, it's PG, SG, PF that get really thin, especially if Demary or Solo bolt.

#1 need will be PG
#2 need will be frontcourt (C or PF)
#3 need will be SG

The portal is great, but not if you need a specific position and it's thin - cannot be used for insurance. I think we got lucky with Demary/Smith because if we didn't get them, then what?

I had to read that sentence 4 times to understand what it means with the double negative. So you're saying Toure can replace County, but not Mingo? I think that makes sense although some people think County has play making skills but I haven't seen that said about Toure.

2 of the 2000 other guys in the portal?
There are still guys in there...but I meant if Demary and Smith went elsewhere then what? We would have had Darius Adams as our starting PG this year. Or, would have gotten a lot less quality in the portal.

I'm confident in the staff going out and getting what they need. No possible way they were going to be left in the position of Adams being the starting PG. There were plenty of talented guards in the portal. I know we're all partial to the guys we ended up getting but I don't think Demary and Smith were the only 2 guards in the portal who fit what the Huskies needed.

Somehow you've managed to be 100% wrong on all counts here. The portal is perfect for filling specific positional needs. There are FAR more high-major ready talents in the portal than there are coming from the high school ranks.

Really hoping they can real him in. Seems like a very good program fit. I think he'll learn to shoot.

When you look at his #s, he's a streaky shooter. His form isn't bad. I haven't watched enough to know, but that's often just a sign that there's some inconsistency in his footwork to tighten up.

Edit: Just watched a few highlights to remind me. His shot is slow and has a wonky upper body that needs to get worked out.

Never said there are more HS recruits than portal entrants. I said 2026 recruiting is first then you hit the portal post-season.

The portal is not perfect and that is a huge overstatement to say it is as I raise you an Aidan Mahaney.

And high school recruiting is even less perfect. Our hit rate on transfers as impact players is significantly better than high school players--especially those in the 4* range. I raise you Isaiah Abraham, Ahmad Nowell, Rahsool Diggins, and Corey Floyd Jr.

You've also yet to address how the portal is not great "if you need a specific position" or it "can't be used for insurance." Or for some reason how we got "lucky" with Demary and Smith, and not because of our historical record of success and ample NIL resources.

Sorry, bad self-editing. But yes, I am agreeing with husky429 for the reason you state. I had thought of Toure as a SG-type, but it makes sense that the staff might prefer other qualities from that position. I wouldn't rule it out, though.

If you are raising an Abraham, Nowell, Diggins, and Floyd, I am calling. It's pretty clear for HS recruits you want top 20, even top 10 like a Castle or a Liam or Mullins - every HS recruit carries risk, but less so the more highly rated and reviewed.

Portal not great if you need a specific player. Given we don't know who Hurley and staff actually wanted, we just know who they got, suffice to say we got Silas, Malachi, Alec and Dwayne and 3 of the 4 aren't starting and 2 are possibly beyond the 10 person cut line. We then went and got 2 euro recruits to backfill even more. If the portal was great we would have gotten better players and would be in the top 10 of transfer recruits - we are not. So while for HS recruits we all are in the know on who the team wants, we are not for transfers. For those reasons, the portal is good, not great.

Portal not good for insurance: We get our recruits first (Mullins, Furphy, Reibe, Adams) for 2025-2026. Then comes the season and at the end guys transfer out, or go NBA and you hit the portal. You are both running the risk of bringing in talent that makes a HS recruit leave (a la Adams), but you also know the top 10-15 guys by position and you make your pitches for the ones you need and want. Then it's musical chairs for the most part and players go where they like (we didn't get Haggerty, didn't get Stirtz, but we got Silas and Malachi). We got Koroma and Millender who are really cheap as insurance goes with not a lot of upside if they get thrown into action. If the portal was great for insurance we wouldn't have gotten the 2 Euro recruits. I can remember vividly the calls for another big from the portal and it just wasn't happening. That's why I said it cannot be used for insurance.

You seem to be making 3 arguments, none of which make a lot of sense.

1) High school recruits carry less risk if they are highly rated. Yes... duh. We also can't get multiple top-10 high school recruits a year. The 4* guys are only coming here if they're willing to develop on the bench. The Ross's of the world are a rare breed in this regard.

2) "If the portal was great we would have gotten better players and would be in the top 10 of transfer recruits"... so, you don't like the portal because we didn't get the best players out of the portal? Silly argument.

3) "portal is not good for insurance"... but also "Koroma and Millender who are really cheap as insurance goes with not a lot of upside if they get thrown into action." But even though we have two great insurance pieces, the portal is bad for finding insurance pieces because we filled the 14th and 15th spots on our roster with euros? This argument doesn't make a lot of sense either.
