Duke Post Game Thread

Colin Cowherd spent about 5 minutes talking, in the first portion of today's show, about the alleged bumping. He thought it was a bunch of whining by Duke losers on social media and had no merit. He did mention that Dan is a bit odd at times while showing the picture of his jacket off his shoulders and glasses off his face. Due to that and his passion he receives some unwarranted criticisms.

I have seen some comments on FB and social media calling Dan a POS human being. I can understand why opposing fans have issues with some of his antics with the officials and opposing fans, but that definitely carries it too far IMO. He sure is a polarizing figure.
Hurley is certainly incredibly unique. The good thing is other coaches, people in the media who cover college basketball, and people in the media who cover sports in general have his back.

They know what he's about, it's coming from a good place, and he's great for the sport.

Just rewatched last few minutes. Couple of things I noticed which displayed how narrow this win was:
1. Mullins picked up his 4th foul with 5:50 left, and was in there on the pressure traps in the last couple of minutes swatting away at the ball.
2. Silas let the ball roll on inbounds a couple times saving about 10 seconds.

For #2: The second one, I was yelling at the TV because Alex inbounded it at an angle towards the sidelines. Silas wasn't able to let it roll as long as he would have liked before having to pick it up, and we lost out on the opportunity to preserve a few more seconds. Time was a very precious commodity for our possible comeback at that point.

A ton. A loss and Uconn goes out this year without a whisper. The shot of the century happens and everyone is talking about it, Hurley & Mullins getting interviewed by everyone. It's amazing for March Madness too. Uconn brand has doubled down after the B2B with that shot.

Why is this still a question

That 88-89, 89-90, 90-91, 91-92, 92-93, 93-94 run with Laettner/Hill was insane.

Even if Hurley makes the NC and doesn't win he only matches the last four years. K went final four, runner up, NC, NC, R32, runner up during those six years. I dislike K a lot, but that is insane and better than what Hurley has done so far.
And yet, Coach K DID NOT win three championships in 4 years. I didn't say Hurley had done more, only that Coach K had not done what they're measuring Hurley against.

yeah, but the first thought shoulnd't be "how can we scam the other team"

Any ref is going to blow it dead there to check the clock, which did happen almost immediately. If you watch the actual bench, they did a great job keeping eachother accountable and largely on the bench.
Indeed, even Hurley grabbed Nardi and spun him back towards the bench

It's mostly a function of people farming for engagement by posting hot take clickbait. It's the #1 product on social media

I don't think 2. mattered much. UConn inbounded the ball with 28.9 seconds and when Demary picked up the ball UConn called a timeout with 27.2 seconds left. UConn then inbounded the ball to Demary who passed it to Solo who held the ball for at least 4 seconds while waiting for Demary to run a long loop to receive the ball again with 20 seconds left. He passes the ball to AK with 14 seconds left who actually shuffled his feet a bit before passing back to Demary. Demary finally gets fouled with 10 seconds left. I didn't understand why they didn't try to run something much sooner.

I was scared of him because every time I've seen Duke play he makes all their big shots. I also thought several of his comments during this tournament showed arrogance. He made his first couple shots against us and then did absolutely nothing the rest of the game.

Au contraire. He fell down and handed us the ball quite excellently. Langdon would be proud.

Sometimes things that appear bad turn out to be good. I was at my daughter's house for my son in laws birthday. There was a fairly large crowd. When they let the clock go from about 27 seconds to about 10 seconds. Everybody was screaming that they let too much time run off. In hindsight if UConn hits a three with 15 seconds left to tie it, it would be a lot more nerve racking hoping Duke doesn't score to win it. I'll take the lead with .4 seconds left any day. Also if there was more time Braylon might be looking to pass. It also helps that the defender was passive because he didn't want to foul.
