Donovan Clingan | The Boneyard

Donovan Clingan

No need for qualifiers - That size will travel, and he did a reasonably good job in space. He will be able to post, pass, finish, and rebound against anyone, and did a nice job of playing without fouling. The fouls he was called on were very marginal and as he gets a bit of a reputation as a beast, will start getting the benefit of those. Great start from DC.

He did a really nice job of playing defense without fouling. The offensive fouls he drew were pretty obvious but those sorts of growing pains are to be expected for a freshman big.

Yup these are the type of games you use to get the early freshman jitters out and gain confidence to just start playing your game. Good night overall for Karaban and Clingan. Really think it shows we can go 10 deep when healthy, or at the very least always have a talented 8 deep with some injuries. Obviously much better than when we had say Cobb and Sid Wilson as our 7 and 8 guys.

I feel good about him being a stout rim protector when we need him, hopefully he can work on his touch though as he didnt look super fluid when he had the ball

I realize last night's game was against Sisters of the Poor, but a stat line for DC of 9, 7, and 4 off the bench was a great debut. Nice job, young man.

I would say it was less the numbers and more the proverbial "eye test" that he moved and was fluid enough to look like he belonged on a college basketball court.

Donovan will be a solid contributor this season and beyond. Just his size alone changes what teams can/can't do against him. He won't dominate the way he did in high school where the whole offense was centered around him, but his presence in the middle will be a major asset for us. He's also a pretty good FT shooter and can hit a mid-range shot on occasion.

Anytime you are on a list with Akok Akok...?

There is obvious potential, but let's not set expectations too high for the kid. It took Sanogo nearly a year and a half to figure it out and our team ambitions weren't as high as they are this season.

About all I took from this game is that guys need to settle into roles before the PK85.

he's gonna have some good games and some bad ones. some will be dictated by matchups, others will be dictated by how the game is officiated. he's certainly a great piece to have off the bench. was nice to see him at least engaged defensively when his man took him out to the perimeter.

You don't see very many freshman centers know what to do with the ball like Donovan. He either dunks the ball or finds the open shooter.
Remember all the spinning around and indecisive play of some of our other young bigs? Or anyone's for that matter?

This. He was about as expected. He’s no Enosch Wolf, but he’s no Olajuwon either. Not as mobile as Travis Knight, but he can play. It will be fun to watch him, and fun to watch Hurley figure out how to use him. Already we saw a 2-3 zone called out and it was quite effective. That’s the kind of wrinkle Hurley needed to add.

Hmm...

You made it clear in your previous posts you think Clingan will barely play and won't have any impact this season.

You're also not remembering what Travis Knight looked like as a freshman.
