We have 5 players who were not with UConn last season. Geno played everybody because he could with a huge lead, and the score indicates that. If he had left his starters in it most likely wouldve been a blowout. Instead he gave alot of minutes to those who need to get up to speed. This allowed them to gain experience and gave Geno an opportunity to work on different things. Thats all good. It doesnt matter in a game that is a blowout how much we win by. What matters right now is getting those with inexperience and those coming back from injuries playtime and experience because in a couple of weeks we face some very good competition and you will see a shorter lineup. I expect every opportunity Geno gets he will play a deeper lineup. We've all know we have the talent, what we lack is experience and Geno got them that in yesterdays game. I liked it. Developing the team is a priority and doing that sooner then later is good for our future.

They are definitely a work in progress. They have great individual players as they always do but they just haven't quite hit their stride in the team game. I agree they have a group that can dominate the weaker teams but they do need to develop those who will be the keys to beating the better teams, specifically fine tuning the chemistry on the floor.

To me once Jana and Azzi move into the starting line up they can start developing into their most competitive team. I would love to see Ice stay in there too so the line up has size and scoring but I don't know if that is on Geno's radar. To me UConn looks closer to where UCLA is right now in readiness but not where ND seems to be. Good news is they have lots of time to get where they need to get and history shows they will get there.

Starting with tomorrow's game, the Huskies have five ranked teams in the next seven games, which is good. Also good is that uNd (@ South Bend) is the middle game of this stretch on Thursday, 12/12/24 with five days between it and the previous game vs. Louisville.

Even though all healthy players may not play as much vs. the five ranked teams, the bench players will still be under the watchful eyes of CD & Geno. I am sure they will be enthusiastically engaged so they will learn without the ball, and learn from the film to be ready when called upon as the BE conference games begin vs. G-town on Sunday, 12/15/24. Everything is a learning opportunity!!!

A six game winning streak in the NCAA tournament is the goal, and the elite eight matchup will NOT be a "gimme" as the competition will be fierce, but this group of Huskies will be ready, willing and able to continue the current streak! They have the GOATs (Geno & CD, et. al.) guiding them on this path.

Go Huskies!!!

He was developing the young players against OSU's best players. Marotte, Rees, and Shuler played the entire Q4; Shimel and Heide started and subbed out for Bolden and Ferreira, both starters, at 4:35. I have no beef with Rueck for this, after all, he's trying to build chemistry and develop players, too.

Starters:
Marotte
Shuler
Bolden
Heide
Rees had started all games before last night

Geno mentioned in a presser last month that a Jana-Ice lineup was conceivable. They just hadn't worked on it at that time. I'd like to see it too, but I don't think Jana is quite ready yet for that. There's still a good deal of de-rusting that needs to get done.

I think you can get that once Aubrey comes back and it would help if Yanna can break into the rotation once she comes back.

That's 10 more fouls where you can take the chance having a Jana, Ice, Sarah, Azzi, PB line up for periods of time. I'm so hoping we see this line up at some point.

All the above comments are on the money. It is true that Uconn has the potential to be in the Elite Eight group of teams at the upper level of basketball. It is also true that those teams have elite coaches. What Uconn has is GENO and CHRIS , who statistically win games against those elite teams. Whatever team GENO puts on the floor, by Tournament time , they are ready. Last year's team is a prime example of that. The nucleus of a great team, so I will sit back and let GENO and CHRIS do their jobs and watch the team as it powers it's way to another NC. GO FRESHMEN!!! GO SOPHOMORES!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!

I think team development should apply even against top opponents. It is one thing to get minutes against a limited Oregon state team, but quite another to get on the court against Notre Dame, etc. Even if we wind up losing the game and dropping a level or two in national rankings, what is the problem? Uconn is in this hunt for one reason; the final four and the NC opportunity.

As for that development, here is what I saw ( FloHoops):

1. Paige was brilliant.
2. Sarah was solid but not perfect ( second best player on the court, nonetheless ).
3. AZZI is coming along. Fierce defense and excellent court sense and vision ( assists, finding the open man, etc ). Shot will come. But I will be surprised if we ever see 5 threes in a row from her. Nonetheless, she is an excellent basketball player, and will only get better.
4. Ice was really good in the paint and rebounding. Shot was a bit rough and she needs to be more alert ( and crisper ) on some passes.
5. Jana did kind of have a breakout on offense, but most of her points were ( dare I say ) "ugly." But she showed progress, for sure. And she was playing ( as was Ice ) against an oak tree.
6. Katlyn is getting more comfortable. She is a true force and annoyance on defense.
7. KK was really good. Maybe a better defender than Katlyn. Hit a big three. Has to be careful not to drive into traffic that is Oak tree huge.
8. Ash is tremendous player. Shot remains a bit inconsistent, but not bad. Her pull up jumpers used to be automatic. She needs to find that one again. She has more energy than anyone.
9. Allie was exciting. She hit two threes in a row and looked as though she would never miss. Then she did.
10. Morgan was quiet today but battled. She sees the court well.
11. Q gave some excellent defense and rebounding, but then she offset that productivity with errors ( traveled on a very athletic layup; made a soft pass that was" telegraphed" and subsequently picked off; and she missed her trademark " three." She is already better than last season, But she needs to step up another notch. Unforced errors will keep her on the bench. C'mon Q. Amaze us!

I wouldn't like seeing this lineup at all. First off, I love speed in the lineup combined with skill. Secondly, why do they have to go into games assuming they will have to foul a lot? Why not just don't foul as much instead of expecting that they will need to? This is as "big" as I'd like to see is Aubrey in and Ice or Jana out. Still have size along with rebounding and speed. Though I prefer smaller lineups as starters.

I want to see UCONN be the number 1 fastbreak team in the country. The above lineup in bold is not that.

That is what I like about the schedule this season vs last year, not coming out the gate facing heavyweights like Texas or UCLA on the young season. The depth that we have now and on deck with AG and Ayanna! Our 2nd Unit could cause some problems, once they get their conditioning in place, which comes from playing. Getting that chemistry down. I like our 2nd unit.

That big post player for Oregon State was good practice for when they go against Koval. They are very similar I would say. Of course Koval is prospectively much better but as a freshman, I’d say this was a good look for our girls to see before matching up with her.

I think the sub patterns are fine. If you try to put 4-5 inexperienced players in at the same time, all they learn is confusion. Bringing them in one or two at a time lets them learn all the nuances a lot quicker. I'm a proponent of leaving at least a couple of starters in even in mop-up time just so the younger ones stay organized and move with purpose. Speed and efficiency are mental skills that need constant reinforcement.
