This post at least makes sense to me. Most of us can see the obvious talent. Maybe they draft him for his future potential just to have him. Physically right now he is not close.
 
The team needs everybody to get healthy so the roles and rotations can get clearly defined for the offense to gel. There has been too much instability. In the meantime, the defense has been stellar which is key for making a deep run in March.

He's univerally projected as an easy top 15 pick and once he "gets" the system, that will probably only go up. Why on Earth would he return?

Luckily we didn’t play like crap against those teams. But we should play that way every game. We played sloppy ragged basketball for the first 10 minutes against 2 teams who are lousy. We could overcome it. But it is a bad habit and needs to stop. Do it against a competent team and it won’t be so easy to overcome. Hope we are more focused against the better teams. And aren’t a play to the level of the opponent team.

A lot of that was based on his HS tape. A pick that high still has to prove it on the floor against good college competition. He’s still working himself back into game shape and the system, so TBD.

and in those few games he's already shown himself to be the most talented player on a top 3-4 team. I'd say coming off the bench in his first career road game and giving you 17 and 5 off the bench would qualify for something, no? The kid is a first round pick, right now, based on his talent and the flashes he's shown before being in game shape and getting totally acclimated into the system. Let's not fool ourselves.

Guy drools over every freshman in the country and then can't even admit the one we have looks good. And he wonders why everyone here questions his opinions

Of course it’s dangerous to start off poorly. I don’t agree with your assessment we’re playing down to our opponent. Two players who have been injured for most of the season are being integrated into the lineup. They were unable to even practice. They’re not at the optimal playing level they should ultimately be at. Players learn to adapt to each other’s subtle movements over time . So Demary’s learning to run offense became more difficult. Add to this Solos injury and Stewart gutting it out with mild injuries and you get this ragged offense. I don’t expect this team to look good on offense for a minimum of four more games assuming everyone comes back healthy post break.

Hurley has stated Mullins doesn’t know how to play our complex offensive sets. He’s told to just try to get free. But his movement is bogging our half court play. Additionally we’re struggling to set screens for him because of it. In spite of all this we’re winning because our defense is outstanding.

We’re an orchestra with incredible musicians. But the players haven’t had time to play as a cohesive unit. Maestro Hurley will fix things if the injury bug stops. Play may be uncomfortable to watch for now. But if one enjoys the process of development this will be an exciting ride.

Do you not remember our road losses to an even worse Seton Hall team in recent years. We were without our leading scorer, the PG vomited in game, and Reed still looks rusty to me on the offensive end.

I have genuine concerns about the offense due to our lack of facilitators. Ideally our offense isn't overly reliant on point guard play and this year it is. Against better defenses, that's a potential problem. On the other hand, we pushed the pace for the first time all season. Guys got boards and attacked instead of walking the ball up. That's what this group is better suited for and it seems the staff finally has them playing that way.
 
Pickle juice: My wife's muscle cramps disappeared when she imbibed. Unfortunately, it soon resulted in stomach cramps.

Alex: Looks like the longer threes are back. They were in the flow, though, and this is nice. He is a lifter. A leader. A NPOY daddy!

Mullins: Running into picks and teammates all night and still delivers out of pure talent. March will blow in and he'll be the wind!

Tarris: Plenty to nitpick but gimme some more, big guy!

Silas: Again, we see the dawg in (and out of) him (Cujo concurs.) By this time we're positive that coach has reeled him in to focus on leading, creating, stopping before worrying about scoring. He is on the come.

Ross: The net positives are worth it but ballwork needs fine tuning. Difference makers are the propellant to big runs.

Stew: Victim of circumstances? Low minutes for no apparent reason. Did some real nice things.

Reibe: Discombobulated with all the bodies and arms being thrown at him. Grow day.

Solo: We missed ya. Git 'er healthy.

It's bizarre. Mullins could opt to sit out the rest of the season, and he'd be an easy mid-first-round pick.

Can we have one year when we don’t do this? It’s wrong literally every year. Castle, Clingan, Liam, etc. Enjoy this season, he’s gone afterwards.

To the drooling, there are some freshmen doing some ridiculous things this year. Boozer, AJD, Brown, Wilson, Peat.

Right now Mullins falls into the DP camp of hasn't been out there long enough and integrated enough to get a real feel for him.
 
Silas stepping up and knocking down 2 free throws multiple times really helped for us to keep a good lead and not give life to Depaul. Interesting game with the 2 different pairs of centers going at it. I hope the team gets a short break before Xavier prep and travel.

A lot of the pro-Duke virus was caused by Vitale. As Vitate fades so sdoes the reasons to hate (or love) Duke.

Alex hit his first four threes in the flow of the offense with his feet near the the three point line.

He missed his last four threes from deep near the sideline. One of which he took with about four minutes left and 25 seconds on the shot clock.

The longer threes came back, and he missed them.

I think more of us just need to let him grow into the player he will become - which is a lottery pick.

His jump shot is as smooth as anyone who has every put on a husky uniform.

He is just trying to figure out how to fit in to a Top 5 team. We have one of the few teams in the country where even a lottery pick must figure out how to fit in with 4 other massively talented players. That is a luxury but also a challenge too. Steph did it and so will Braylon.

No argument there, there are a ton of freshmen having great seasons and Mullins is a step below them. Just seems weird to ignore the clear talent right in front of you on the team you supposedly root for, because a step below all time great college freshman is still a surefire 1st round and almost certain lottery pick

DP is averaging almost 20 PPG in the time he’s been on the floor. I don’t think Mullins is in that camp right now.

I had this argument with my son regarding Hawkins. I felt he should have stayed for "developmental reasons". He laughed at me and said "that is not how it works anymore old man. They draft for talent and potential."

I still believe he should have stayed, but what do I know!?

Darryn Peterson is the #1 or #2 draft pick in a historically great freshman class and he's getting comparisons to Kobe. Of course Mullins isn't that or considered that and of course it doesn't mean he's not a one and done because he's not Darryn Peterson.

Hurley has already called him the next one and done so that’s the main thing that makes me think it’s not likely.

But I hope we don’t force it. He has a lot of things that he should clean up before making the jump.

It’s early so it’s completely possible he progresses enough by the end of the season. But I don’t think he’s as physically ready and able to get his own like Liam and Castle were instantly before him.

They play vastly different roles and in different systems. Point is, it's been so impartial we really don't know how good they are yet.

Nah, I think everyone knows what’s Peterson is already. He can sit the rest of the season and go top 3. He’s shown enough. Haha

The handsiness defensively is definitely one. He has a major tendency to stick his hands in while defending.
