I believe Awak Kuier will be going straight to the WNBA per something she posted on her Instagram.

“18-year-old basketball super-promise Awak Kuier made a surprise decision and rejected the university basketball because of the WNBA dream - heading towards Central European professional fields One of Finland's most promising athletes, 18-year-old Awak Kuier will leave after this season. The decision will allow her to join the women's WNBA league as early as two years later.”

That's confirmed and not shocking. If not UConn, much better the pros than another big program.

Dan Olsen looks at the players to watch at the Nike TOC which begins today:

W Aaliyah Edwards
Kingston, Canada/Crestwood Secondary
espnW rank (2020): 26

Edwards, a future UConn Husky, is a physical forward who has evolved into one of Canada's best prospects in the Class of 2020. She is physical off the bounce, drive and finish plays in traffic or hit a midrange jumper.

*

G Rayah Marshall
Los Angeles, California/Lynwood High
espnW rank (2021): 14

Standing 6-foot-3 with a skill set comparable to Kevin Durant, Marshall can play virtually any position on the floor and is capable of taking over a game at almost any time. Marshall has the offensive firepower to score from any spot on the court and the defensive ability to create havoc for the opponent.

*

P Lauren Betts
Centennial, Colorado/Grandview High
espnW rank (2022): 1

Betts, currently the top prospect in the Class of 2022, is a towering 6-foot-7 center who has rapidly developed her game. She was a USA Basketball member in 2019 and is drawing attention by some of the top Power 5 schools in the country. She is a game-changer defensively and helped Grandview be in the espnW Power Rankings for most of the 2018-19 season.

A couple of the TOC venues (local high schools) are right in my subdivision this year. And they happen to be the gyms where the groups with Edwards, Lattimore, Miles, Cardoso and Betts are playing. Looking forward to seeing Crestwood (Edwards and Lattimore) play tomorrow. Schedule after that depends on who wins, so don't know what other games I'll be able to sneak out to.

Aaliya’s teammate Latasha Lattimore. She is taller than Aaliya, and strong. Aaliya is stronger and heavier, and faster than Archbishop Wood’s guards...

Yes. Crestwood is winning, so they’ll play at a time I won’t be able to make it tomorrow. Should be able to get to a game between Olivia Miles’ and Kamila Cadoso’s teams Friday. And Lauren Betts is playing in the same group as Edwards/Lattimore, so hopefully I can catch one of her games this weekend.

Edwards just got into it with an Archbishop Wood player - refs had to break it up. Aaliya got the better of it. They just called a double foul, but the Crestwood coach got T’d up.

Lattimore shooting...

#10 is the player Edwards got into it with. Now it just happened again - think they’re trying to bait her. Big fuss with the refs & coaches now...

Brandon Clay at the recent She Got Game Classic:

UConn landed a post prospect with a world of potential in Class of 2020 prospect Piath Gabriel of Bradbury Christian Academy (Mass.). Gabriel has the size and length on the interior to be a consistent factor in due time as her skill set keeps leveling up.

Sophomore sensation Kiki Rice of Sidwell Friends (Md.) is a dynamic scoring guard who played her with great pace. Whether in transition or in the half court, she got her paint touches off the bounce time and again. She’s a player with the talent to make difficult shots and as the 2022 learns to pick her spots her game will only become more lethal.

Blue Star's Mark Lewis was also at the She Got Game Classic:

Piath Gabriel – 2020 – 6-5 – Post – Bradford Christian Academy – UConn signee…All the size, strength and agility…Playing with more confidence…Effort is getting her in the middle of action more and more often…Active posting…Understands angles…Can finish efficiently…Has tools to work further from the rim…High post drive is impressive and covers a lot of ground…Impact defender who can change both shots and passes

Janiah Barker – 2022 – 6-1 – Forward – Tampa Bay Tech – One of the most versatile on the high school level…Tools allow her to excel inside and out…Size is there to handle the interior game but agility lets her work the perimeter as well…Ballskills make her a threat virtually anywhere on the catch…She can push the break, drive from the perimeter or pull up for the midrange…Always looking to improve her options…Increased focus is making her production more and more consistent

KiKi Rice – 2022 – 6-0 – Point Guard – Sidwell Friends – Mixing scoring and distributing more and more effectively…Knows when she needs to call her own number but also getting a good grip on when to set up teammates to keep defenders honest…Pushing the ball and exploiting slow and unaware transition defenses…Reading on the weakside defensively much better

Seems like people who are seeing Piath play are not only noticing improvement, but also still that she has lots of potential. I wonder how high her ceiling is? Will she be more Jess Moore or Heather Buck at UCONN?

By all accounts she's a very hard worker, and has size and agility on her side already.
