Morgan Cheli had 16 points in Mitty's tight tourney win Saturday. She might be a wing at the college level but she really is a pass first player. Made a terrific pass for a huge three late. I'd say her passing and her mobility are her biggest strengths right now.

Cheli is #33 in black.

Sidwell beat #1 DeSoto by 54-36 yesterday. They should be the #1 team in the nation in the next poll. I reported on their win over top-10 McNamara previously.

Are we recruiting Jadyn Donovan (2023) from Sidwell? She's a 6'0" leaper at guard and apparently very strong.

Berry averaged 14.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game in 2020-21 on 50% shooting from the field.

She was a freshman.

Now with five seniors from last year’s team -- including four starters -- graduated, it’s her team to not only lead them on the court but in the locker room too. Her natural gift for making players around her better, love for her teammates’ success and disdain for the spotlight make her a natural leader.

But, oh man, a spotlight does she command.

The 29-point effort on Thursday was just one of several strong performances she’s already displayed early in her sophomore season. In her second game of the season, she dropped a 40 piece against Green Hill. She poured in 27 against Dickson County, and was held to “just” 17 against Northwest, one of the most experienced and talented teams in the midstate.

And she’s only getting better. Between seasons, she worked on her jumpshot and ability to drive the lane. She made four 3-pointers on Thursday and picked up seven buckets in the post, including an and-one.

She’s guaranteed to be guarding the opposing team’s best player, too.

Since for 2023 KK Arnold is already signed, I’d take Toomey and the best combo guard out there, Mikaylah Williams to fill out ‘23. If I got MW, then I’d scale back ‘24 to either Olson or Britt Prince for a wing/guard. Hope I’m wrong but I just have a feeling Olson might stay in the Midwest.

The announcer notes that Ayanna has gotten her FT shooting up to 69% this year. That's better than the Huskies did against UCLA.
It's very encouraging to see her making FT shots as I think her biggest weakness is her shot. When someone can make free throws that's a good indicator she can become a solid shooter overall. She is going to need Geno badly though as her basketball IQ needs a ton of refinement. Has she even played AAU ball at all? She's playing with kids who all appear to be midgets compared to her and not even remotely capable of defending her. She absolutely needs better competition and probaby better coaching.

Does UConn have a commit or POI on Sidwell?

Rice is there. It's possible UConn has interest in Jaydan Donovan and/or Kendall Dudley, but that's not known.
Thanks. For those who don't know, Donovan is a 6'0" jumping jack guard, rated #10 in 2023. Dudley is a 6'1" PG rated #4 in 2024. Along with Rice, that gives them 3 top-10 players over 3 classes. They are the top team in the nation.
