I visited the DR and got stopped by “cops” with AKs on a road both on my way in and way out a week later. First time a guy extorted me for cash...said you like whiskey? Then told me he liked whiskey and wanted money for some lol. On the way back wasn’t so innocent...they tried getting us to drive to an ATM to seemingly prove our ID was real. Showed them three photo IDs and they kept claiming they were fakes and that they were going to apprehend me. Place is seriously messed up. I’ve traveled in a number of Latin American countries, not in tourist parts, and the DR was sketchiest to me

It's sad the DR is such a mess. Not a good couple of months for them on the optics front. American tourists getting knocked off left and right, someone trying to kill an American sports hero and DR national hero. People doling out street justice curb stomping the guys responsible for shooting Ortiz...

Yeah, I've had enough of baseball players getting kidnapped, injured or killed when they go back to their home countries. Seems like there is a ballplayer killed every winter. Hopefully Papi pulls through quickly!

Most of those ballplayers die from car accidents. The DR has some of the most dangerous roads around

Got roped into a trip there again due to my wife company and a prize trip but it was at the Hard Rock and was much better, more Americanized for sure, food was really good and looked like food I'd eat here unlike the first trip.
Looks can be deceiving... ;)
>>More than 45 of them identified themselves as guests at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana, “People report food-borne illnesses but it’s possible that they experienced some other type of contamination,” said Patrick Quade, founder of iwaspoisoned.com, adding that he consulted with scientists regarding his findings.<<

DR is no different than anywhere.
A former Colts player was murdered in Tampa today. Eric Patterson 26 years old.

CT and NYC might have been cleaned up but tons of areas of this country are still super violent.
I have been to many 3rd world countries and Baton Rouge is the scariest place I have lived.

Stay out of the DR for now. It just isn’t worth the trouble. Too many people get roped in to these dirt cheap resort offers, but it isn’t safe. Unfortunately, when all of these things happen and the local police and the resorts don’t protect Americans from crime, it will just embolden more criminals. No way in hell I’d let my wife or daughters go anywhere in one of those resorts without me these days. Honestly, no way in hell I’d go there at all anyway.
My son is in the DR right now. Bad choice IMO.

It's different. At least five American tourists have been knocked off down there recently and a bunch of others have been poisoned. Two cops were given orders to execute David Ortiz last night and they were beaten to a pulp by mobs carrying out street justice. It's different.

Wow you don't even need to get shot like Papi to either die or become violently sick there lately huh? That pesticide sounds a bit scary - violently ill or just stop breathing? Yikes DR is in trouble.

Why? He can’t go to a restaurant/club which he’s prolly been to a million times and enjoy himself. Not papis fault.

Is this a confirmed fact or just a rumor from a tabloid article at this point? The guy was shot and almost assassinated. Can we at least wait for the dust to settle and make sure it's a confirmed fact before calling the man stupid and arrogant? It would seem like the human thing to do. If it turns out to be true, yes it would have been a monumentally dumb thing to do if he knew she was his girl. A little soon to be so eager to kick the man while he's down though.
Well we know it was a hit, why would there be a hit on a superstar? Do a little digging and it seems pretty clear.

I've read all the rumors and have done the "digging." It may be true. Not saying it's not true. Still a little early to call it an absooute fact though. It wouldn't be the first time the Daily Mail or Barstool Sports got a story wrong either. Some articles even call it "rumor" at this point. No need to pile on a guy fighting for his life at this point in my opinion even if it's proven true. I'm also quite sure as a point of fact that there are other reasons for having a superstar shot other than a woman even if that ends up being the case here.

Every publication whether it's the Times, The Journal, Washington post, or TMZ has gotten stories wrong but these type of stories tend to he broken by the TMZ's of the world.

I'm not calling it a fact but it seems pretty clear that's what happened. What are the all the reasons there would be a hit put out on someone of Ortiz's stature? I can only think of he screwed around with a powerful person's girl or he screwed a powerful person out of a lot of money.

You said it. It could be money, a personal beef, jealousy, maybe he declined doing something for the wrong person, maybe the guy thinks an affair happened but in reality it didn't. I have no idea. I mean drug lords tend to not be the most stable or rational people so who knows. Like I said, it may be true and if it is so be it. I'm just not borderline giddy to rush to judgement before rumors become fact. Hey, but everyone likes a good takedown these days.
