I know damn well Hurley tells recruits you have to earn you minutes..not given…someone got in his ear…$$$. Top 20 recruit scared of competition. Prob better leaving now rather than riding the bench and then leaving. Good luck. Trust in staff!

For both sides to see the situation fully? Yes? If you’re looking at how each is trending since late summer/early fall, there are some pretty stark differences. He was going to get his money, and they had a plan for him, but also options for change based on his play, which may not have been to his liking. If the sides start to feel a little unsure about those things, you can move on with no hard feelings.

I can see why he had second thoughts. But wasn't all this known back in November? Just replace Demary and Smith for Mahaney and Nowell. Whatever, not at all concerned about this.

I wouldn't say we are loaded with starters because we still have unproven returning players. We need to pickup a big if Karaban is coming back and a quick , shooter or we are pretty much were we where at last year. Not much improvement.

Not here. Nowell and Abraham are dead to me. If Adams stayed and bolted after a year, he'd be as dead to me then as now. The only ones I wish any luck are Singare who put some time in and was by all accounts a great teammate, and Mahany who I just think realized that he wasn't cut out for this level.

Please stop using the MAA “game” as any reference on a player’s ability, it’s like the NBA all-star game, a glorified scrimmage

If you are a consensus top 25-30 player, especially a MAA, it is completely reasonable that you would expect to start or play major minutes. If you get recruited over (or transferred over) and are slated to play 5-10 mins a game, you are wasting a valuable year in the NIL era. Go play elsewhere where you’ll get playing time and some money, then transfer.

Jumping into the portal now just as it’s about to close is also savvy if you’re bag hunting (FWIW I don’t think he was, I think Malachi was what pushed him out) because some P5 school will want to throw both money and playing time at you. We’re lucky to have so much talent on the roster that we’re letting a MAA leave.

So if the top mid-major upperclassmen end up at the bluebloods, and the top 10 freshman (Castle, Liam) still contribute a lot, what happens to the fringe 5 star, top 4 star guys? They aren't going to be drafted in the first round, they just have to battle it out for playing time? Seems like the strategy needs to be go get a top 5-10 guy or two, max, and then hopefully some of your other underclassmen develop (ball, stewie etc) and then complement with two portal guys? But getting a bunch of top 50 guys doesn't work in this world right?

Seems going short the 25-50 ranking, and long the 50-100, or 1-10 combined with a few portal guys makes sense. Easier said than done.

I think both things can be true. We likely offered a mid market deal, he probably found a suitor for a high end deal; also he was looking at an uphill battle for time.

Typical boneyard to bash a kid when all reports coming out are that it was a mutual decision. It was not a money situation, it was not that he didn't want to compete, it was not that he did not "fit" the culture. The playing time just wasn't there.

We clown on Duke and Kentucky for recruiting multiple 5 stars at the same position when the playing time is not available and then blame the player when we do the same.

High-level 4* guys are ending up more at the mid- p6 schools instead of the elites. That's the future. Everyone has to work their way up to school's like UConn

Like most fans there's that initial shock when you hear the news, but we really shouldn't be suprised at all. It all makes sense when you give it a minute or 2. Hearing both sides had a mutual decision, best of luck to Adams and we'll move on.
 
The outdated attitude that any time a player decommits, it’s due to a flaw in their character or that they’re afraid of competition just needs to stop. PT the staff was offering when recruiting him was almost certainly part of his decision and that changed. It’s reasonable that he would want to move on (and candidly, Hurley is probably okay without providing the promised NIL, given he was not going to contribute year 1).

Or wherever he ends up could offer him the same amount of money but the opportunity for more PT. Point is this appears to have been motivated by PT rather than NIL even if he ends up getting more NIL

Do people really think he would've been able to take minutes away from Smith and Silas?

We just saw a situation where Nowell couldn't get too many minutes with a struggling Mahaney.

People can say Nowell didn't show much when he played, but part of putting yourself in a good situation is to have the room to grow and not need to be perfect to be able to play.

I 100% expect Adams to need to be able to play through mistakes he’ll make his first year to develop and get better. That would not have been here.
