Darius Adams Decommits from UConn

Seems it's almost impossible to put together a roster these days. Players want money and immediate playing time. And a coach wants to win now. It's very difficult to satisfy everyone.

Oh well, probably not a loss for next year since I'm not sure he was ready to contribute immediately. And there's plenty of time to replace him with someone else for 2026-2027.
We need two year contracts - this is unsustainable chaos.

I think he started reading the Boneyard and wasn't happy that so many posters didn't believe he was capable of earning any real playing time.
This is funny. But I'm sure he def read the stuff about him. Imagine:

'Hey 19 year old @FfldCntyFan, there are about 350 people talking about you and your merits as a human being on an online forum, do you want to see it?"

-" nah, I'm watching a guy BBQ a porkloin in his tailpipe on Tiktok"

Acaden? Think he was always the preference of the staff
Agree with this - Lewis seemed to be playing a harder bargain being courted by blue bloods. He feels like a UConn kid. Adams commitment came earlier and quick, first of the 4. He didn’t have a ton of hype around him at the time, despite the ranking.

Eh it is what it is. Probably told he didn't have much PT coming his way. He just isn't physically ready.

At best, Adams would have been penciled in as the fourth best guard on the team behind Ball, Demary and Smith. Mullins' size and long-range shooting is tantalizing and he can step in w/ minutes minutes at 2/3, but 1/2 was set between those three guards I previously mentioned.

I've watched a bit of both Mullins and Adams, and I'll be honest, I was never too impressed with Adams, especially when he was on nat'l TV against elite HS talent.

No hard feelings on the kid, but 'tis is the nature of modern day CBB recruiting.
Lots of short term thinking in the teen years but he had to realize in the McD's game that he was the least physically ready player on the two teams.

But maybe he believes he has such a high skill level that he can be a player right away............and maybe one or more of his former suitors told him he'll fit right in with their teams............

Press are basking in the glory of us losing a top recruit.
I wouldn't call it a "brutal blow". Lol

UConn is loaded with guards and wings including incoming transfers Malachi Smith (Dayton) and Silas Demary Jr. (Georgia) and returners Solo Ball, Jayden Ross and Jaylin Stewart.

They are also adding five-star prospect Braylon Mullins and Tasmanian wing
Jacob Furphy.

I can see why he had second thoughts. But wasn't all this known back in November? Just replace Demary and Smith for Mahaney and Nowell. Whatever, not at all concerned about this.

I think any McDonald's All American should want and expect to play 10-15+ minutes a game in their first year. That's not unreasonable.

Bringing in Smith shuts down that possibility. Smith, Silas, and Ball are locked in stone for 25-30 minutes a game at the 1/2. Furphy, Mullins, and Ross can all play some 2/3 as well. He has no path to playing time unless he absolutely balls out.

Can't blame the kid, they recruited over him. For plenty of reasons that make sense.

I saw him live for 10 minutes. It's hard to judge him on that game, it could just be nerves and the moment that he looked so bad in very limited time. Way too small of a sample size.

I'll be curious to hear his reasons for decommitting. It shouldn't be because of Demary and Smith because he was expected to be behind Mahaney and Nowell when he committed. And Demary has 1 less year of eligibility at UConn than Nowell would have had.

Maybe I'm crazy but I think putting together a roster is easier. You don't have to recruit for 2 years. We recruited the best PG rotation in the country in 2 weeks.

For the record, when I was 19 I was writing programs on punch cards. BASIC, COBOL & FORTRAN were what they taught us back then.

Nobody could have foreseen tictok.

Yeah, way to sensationalize a heading for hits.

Yep, he was told it was going to be a serious uphill battle to see the court. Basically a decision was made between Adams and the staff that this was best for him.
Yes i think it's probably best for both parties. We will be fine.

That headline runs counter to the very amicable and mutual decision that was actually made.

Neil Degrasse Tyson said the internet will reach the level of junk mail in 2-3 years.

RIP "internet"= 1983-2026

(Cue the BYer debating the real birthdate)

If you entertain the idea that Karaban is going pro—I'm not predicting or speculating, it's just up in the air!—and then you imagine Stewart slides to the 4...there might be space in the wing for another portal player. And that might be different calculus for Smith.

Demary and Smith are guaranteed major minutes. Mahaney sure at the time. Nowell not necessarily.

We are only at 8 now since Karaban hasn't commited
We have 9 not including Alex that’s why I said we need Alex to stay plus a backup 4/5 and a 3rd string PG which would be 12
