CViv throws her players under the bus

I want to add that there are certainly legitimate questions whether Vivian's style can be successful today, and the recruiting buck does stop with her (although we all know Assistants do the actual work). She did stop with the locker room lock-outs, so she can change.

At the same time, irregardless of what she says, most of the "real" fan base knows that - whether it was her fault, theirs, or (most likely) a combination, the "fab 5" recruiting class was a disaster which probably drove Prince away, ruined chemistry and never was productive (except Lee). We finally began to build something last year, but among the probably legitimate gripes about Vivian is an inability to get good production or use out of frosh.

Most of the "regular fans" "do" understand "Vivianese". Or at least understand that conceptually this is how she expresses herself. Someone on the RU board suggested she get Yogi Berra to translate for her.

And finally - the only one hurt by her rant will ultimately be her. I'm sure she was caught on a bad day and let her fustrations come out. Fustrations with eratic play might be part of it, but the real truth is you have no idea of the RU "fans" of other sports that drive by the WBB board to insist she be gotten rid of, say horrible things, and basically make it plain that her salary funds would be better spent on men's sports (meaning they don't get title IX, but I digress). And these threads are on the men's BB and football boards regularly. And then someone from the press called her out and she exploded. Shouldn't have, but . . .

Whoa she looks like Meghan Simmons in the above pic.

She cannot have won any friends in the Rutgers athletic department by publicly knocking the football and men's basketball programs and asking how many championships they've won. It's foolish of her to say that stuff. Her comments come across as those of someone who is desperate and angry. She's had a great career, but sadly it appears to be falling apart.
Honestly, I wouldn't even consider her career that great - I'm just not impressed by a women's basketball coach with 0 national championships.

She doesn't belong anywhere near the Naismith Hall of Fame.

Maybe?

Title IX is about equal opportunities for female student athletes, not overpaying women's coaches with entitlement issues.

My point isn't that the salary isn't inflated, its that the funds that are spent on her salary will either have to continue to be spent on women's sports, or not spent (in which case, an equal amount will not be spent on men's sports). They think - and have said so - that if we could hire a WBB coach for around $100K (maybe a new coach that would be glad of the position) then over $1 million could go to Football and Men's basketball. And that is faulty thinking.

No, it's about equal opportunities for both genders in educational institutions that acccept Federal funding. It's the reason my sons can't be barred from cooking classes or the color guard corps of the marching band.

This myth that Title IX is about robbing guys of money for football has got to stop.

It's staged, how about.a candid? It must have been pay day.

You didn't say it had to be a candid in the original post. No fair changing the rules after the fact. Pay up! I want my $5 internet dollars!!!!! I need my internet Starbucks this morning since I can't get out to get my REAL Starbucks!!

And I'm not impressed with a fan who thinks that 885 wins, getting to the final four with 3 different programs and 4 final fours is not that great. Her career encompasses all these things; not just the last few years.

I agree -- it plays in to the "what have you done for me lately?" tendency. C Viv may have moments of gracelessness, but only stubborn obtuseness would get someone to the conclusion that she hasn't had a great career. Winning "the big game" simply doesn't happen that often. Which, I guess, is why Dan Marino is "not that great" Nor is Barry Sanders.

I agree with everything that KBA has said. I don't have anything else to add other then I'm pretty tired of the posters on RU's board. And if I was CVS I'd finally snap if I had to put up with their BS too.

Her record speaks for itself. That said, I have always found CVS a rather unlikeable person viewed from afar.

That's a heck of a straw man argument right there. You're really good at those.

I never said Stringer was a crappy coach, and in fact, I absolutely think she belongs in the Women's Basketball HOF. But Naismith? Sorry, I just don't think she belongs there.

Considering the lack of parity that's existed in the women's game in the past (I actually think the parity is underrated today), I have a hard time putting her on the level of Geno, Summitt, VanDerveer, etc.

How can you value their careers -- considering the lack of parity that's existed in the women's game in the past?

Oh, and no one said anything about the NHF. You simply said her career was "not that great." Now you're saying you absolutely believe she belongs in the WBHOF? How does she get in with a career that's "not that great"? Talk about straw....

If stringer could carry a rational line of thought to conclusion without it degenerating into some sort of psycho babble then maybe she could teach her team how to run some coherent offense! Or as you chose to call it"Vivianese".

Thanks...I knew I was good at something.

I am one of those individuals ( I pray for forgiveness every day) who believes that CVS is no longer the coach she was. She was a great coach but no longer has that skill or whatever you wish to call it to reach that same level in today's game even with great players. Some coaches are skilled at coaching the best from good not great players. She has seemed to have lost the ability to coach better players to even higher levels of success. Does that lessen what she had done earlier in her career? No. But its akin to the Emperor's New Clothes, she just isn''t coaching to HOF levels right now.

Or, for Rutgers fans, more accurately we question whether or not she has lost that "whatever you want to call it". Knowing - regardless - that her career is nearing an end, we hope she hasn't and can go out with a bit of a bang. OTH, we look at the court and wonder.

Next year (possibly but not probably her last) is ultimately the telling story. I can accept this year for what it is (and I understood, somewhat, some of the previous years) but there is no good reason why RU should not be very successful next year - the returning players will be quite experienced, the recruit is top notch and . . .

Is Rutgers playing a Big 10 schedule next year? If they are, who knows they might be able to come in second after PSU.
