Booked my flight to Vegas for early July with Jet Blue. Non stop from Hartford. Received notice that the flights were changed. Flight to Vegas changed from morning to 8:30 p.m. Return flight changed from nonstop, arriving at 8 p.m. at Bradley, to 10 hour flight home via Fort Lauderdale. So I just cancelled the flights. Still looking.

I've been to both. The wife and I love Puerto Rico - have been 3 times. We always say you can leave Bradley at 8 and be on a beach by noon. We stay at Isla Verde, which is about a 10 minute drive to San Juan/Old San Juan. Stay in Isla Verde, and do a day trip to Old San Juan. You can also do a day trip to El Yunque, the rain forrest. Isla Verde is great...there is a strip of hotels/casinos all along the beach, all with great restaurants and pools/food/drinks on the beach. We have stayed at 3 different resorts there, but our favorite is the Intercontinental (I think it goes by Royal Sonesta now). Pay the extra $50 per night and get an ocean room view with a balcony. Let me know if you have any questions.
That's funny you mention the Royal Sonesta, that's the exact hotel that we found a deal on Travelzoo. Glad you like it! With ocean views, three-nights would be $900 and with our travel vouchers we can fly out of LGA for free. I think that's the winner for the anniversary trip!

I speak a little Spanish, so it would be the first time I've traveled to another country/territory where the primary language is Spanish.

It's official, thanks for helping with the push.

Three nights in San Juan in an ocean view balcony room at the Royal Sonesta. While Travelzoo deal was sold out, we found a similar rate on hotels.com. Flights are mostly paid for because of travel vouchers from canceled Spring '20 trips. Can't wait!

Aside from that will keep it local. We've decided to fly out my in-laws from Arizona to the CT/NYC area instead of us visiting. Gets them away from the desert heat.

If I get my condo renovation finished, I'd like to rebook the trip to Ireland that my brother and I had to cancel last spring due to CoViD.
If all goes as planned, Ireland’s population may be up to about 80% vaccinated by June. Slainte

Post vaccine in about 3 1/2 weeks, looking forward to first restaurant meal in over a year. Outside, masked until eating. Possibly, some domestic road trips. When Europe ideally gets its’ sh|t together, potentially considering boarding a flight post Euro kids return to school. Or, back to Asia if multi-week hotel quarantines are no longer required. Meanwhile, but more normal-er living while maintaining reasonable social distances, ongoing mask in public settings, and staying smart due to fools being ongoing fools.

Awesome. I’m jealous! You will love the view/room. And everyone there is bilingual, so not speaking Spanish won’t be a problem. That’s a good price you got too.

well, now that i've learned yankee stadium is verboten for the likes of me, one place i won't be going is nyc. decided not to sell the east side hut at this time as apparently we know way too many folks who have bolted 'the city', yet been banging on my phone for their short term hotel needs. so, no more freeloaders. now, there's a charge -call it airspliffy bnb. outside of a few music clubs (mostly closed, and many closing permanently), and zero interest in the restaurant and broadway stuff (the one place we'll miss, sammys roumanian - gigunda beef, bottle of vodka, fork, knife, latkes, and mebbe some green stuff for the ladies, doesn't even know if they'll be at the same place), if saratoga gets similarly loopy, well cross that place off the itinerary too. no worries heading out east on the island, or way up into the dacks as people there haven't lost their minds. forget the weekend ferry hop to fire island- the man prolly has x-ray scanners and uplinks to my permanent record card, so prolly also verboten. heading back up to maine shortly, to check out the reality around old colony. if there's any weirdness there with my expected flow, well, im gonna leave that too, and check that place off the route.
Eastern Standard in kenmore square has closed. permanently. restaurants aren't aboot food -there's good food everywhere. they're aboot 'the scene.' ain't no scene in nyc anymore, so they ain't gonna see me, either. salt lake, the panhandle, volunteer high country, and many other places are lovely this time of year, and they don't yell at you, or give u the third degree.
signed clif 'hassle free' spliffy, a very avid camper.
ps. word on the streets has it that our hood (east shore ct) gonna be nutz this summer. pro tip: u making that run up to chatfield hollar some day this summer? closed/shut down like hammy beach from the traffic? just head a few miles east over to Pattaconk Lake. awesomesauce.

Had to cancel a golf trip to Ireland this summer a few weeks ago as Ireland appears to be continuing their lockdown through the summer. Going to Bandon instead, not a bad fall back.

Yes, I see Europe is not recovering as we are in the U.S. Italy is in its 3rd(?) lockdown. I've never been to Savannah or Charleston, both are supposed to be great cities to visit. Would like to revisit San Antonio, too.

Also, I haven't been back to CT to see the family since March 2020 . . . and that was for a funeral, but domestic airfares have skyrocketed over the last few months. On some airlines, I can fly to Portugal cheaper than to New England.

Starting a post-master's thing potentially in-person classes. Unless my fiance gets a tenure-track job somewhere rather than writing this book and adjuncting 4 classes a semester. Then I'm moving to god knows where.

I'm going to Mexico next week alone.

Early summer visiting my fiance's family and taking a week and hopping around Asheville/Savannah/Charleston.

In August my fiance and I are going to Greece for 3 weeks.

I've been uber conservative about isolating for the last year, so much so I burned up a bunch of vacation and retired 5 months early instead of being forced to go back into the office. I go to the grocery store every 10 to 14 days and stay home in between. We've been to my in laws a half dozen or so times where we sit in the back yard 10+ feet apart for 30 minutes. We maybe get take out or delivery 2 or 3 times a month. Obviously more conservative than most.

I just got my first vax yesterday and second one at the end of the month. In two weeks, the first vax should be good enough to start venturing out.

Things I'm going to do:
  • Go to Arizona often to see grandkids (we live in SoCal - 3 to 4 hour drive)
  • Go to the driving range a number of times (I haven't played more than three rounds in 20 years, but played a ton as a kid/high school)
  • Play a few rounds with my 25 year old equipment
  • Go get a professional fitting for new equipment
  • Hit a couple hundred balls and play at least three rounds a week going forward
  • Get back to spending at least 8 hours a week at the forge - learn how to make Damascus knives
  • Take a welding class
  • Go to the store anytime I need a specific ingredient or want to make something particular without waiting two weeks
  • (this one sucks) go back to CT this summer to give my father a proper funeral/burial next to my mom
  • Spend a bunch of time with friends having drinks/bbq in the back yard
  • Go out to eat anytime we want
  • Take at least a 21 day vacation in Hawaii
Why did I feel like you are my age?

You said you have grandkids. My kids are 10 and 13.

I’m 44. Targeting being done before 55.
Well, I cheated and married a woman older than me to inherit the grand kids.... I'm 55.

I’m 54. I targeted 55. Not going to happen. Maybe 60. That’s my new target. Most likely I go a couple years past that.

No idea for me. Trying to get back into the thick of things with the kids mostly. Tennis and swimming for the kids. More golf for me.

Stay safe out there!

Trying to make up for some lost Travel time...

Week on the Cape in June.

Week on the beach in North Carolina in July

11 days in early October to Vegas/Napa Valley

7 days in December at a resort in Antigua

Beyond that, just looking forward to connecting with family and friends, taking trips to local vineyards/breweries, and hosting people at our house. Have a few weddings and bachelor parties in May/June that should be a lot of fun.
Wow how much do you do when you’re not limited by a pandemic! Good for you.

Avoiding air travel and crowds. Trying to figure out what to do about my niece's upcoming wedding. 150 people? I don't care if everybody's wearing a mask, I know damned well at least 30% to 40% will be unvaccinated.

I'm getting tired of asking people of they've been vaccinated before making plans with them.
Just saying that being vaccinated doesn’t prevent someone from getting, or having, or transmitting covid. Just greatly mitigated risk of all three. Which matters.

No vaccine will give you 100% protection against contracting the disease. But despite the “we don’t know whether you can transmit”, it is highly unlikely that an asymptotic vaccinated person can transmit COVID.
