Like the concept of DJ coming home.
We know who he is, and more importantly who he isn't.
If he can add value to the staff, I can't see a better opportunity for him to get into coaching.

I doubt DJ ever return to Ct. Who ca n blame him. He has started a new life for himself and his family. The stench of Aaron will last a long time in New england
He has worked hard to distance himself from the stench .

To throw a name out there for Offensive Coordinator: Rick Neuheisel, former Colorado and UCLA head coach. Career record was 87-59. NFL OC. Had some run-ins with the NCAA but was a dynamic offensive coach. He's currently working as an analyst for CBS. Worth a call. He's 55.

While I agree with this premise, I think it would be great to have Dan O on staff. Give him a chance to show what he can do. He has had a good mix of clipboard and playing time, which I see as more conducive to learning to teach than playing alone does.

I'll bet he can still out work any player on the current team. He and Finch were animals. They wore out the stairs at Memorial Stadium and many times it was not during normal hours.

He knew what it took to win.

Not impressed with Locksley OC performance at all and I always thought he was forced on Edsall after the 2-10 first season.

I hope Benedict has some OC possibilities to recommend for Randy.

1,000 percent.

I hope he reaches out to him. What's happened to DJ is a terrible shame. He never was close to our best QB, but he was a true warrior, decent H-back type receiver, and tremendous leader.
He cheated as the High school coach in southington. I'll pass and wish him the best.

.-.
We need experienced assistants who:
a) are hungry to win
b) can help identify and develop talent
c) can properly game plan and then actually execute that game plan
d) make the necessary in-game adjustments always needed
e) share a strong hatred for BC

I stand corrected then. Todd Fitch (LA Tech) & Tony Levine (Western Kentucky- also frm. Houston HC)

Tony Levine is headed to Purduew/ the Brohms as Co-Offensive Coordinator/TE/ST Coach.

Al Golden is on the Lions staff, could see him as DC. I trust Edsall for DC hire regardless but the OC hire is critical.

I would love Mark Helfrich but that's a bit optimistic. I am assuming Benedict has SEC ties and Edsall has his old coaching tree ties.

Thoughts on OC and DC?

Benedict brought back Randy, why not TJ as OC?
Charlie Strong is bringing his guy, Sterlin Gilbert from Texas. Randy just knocked off South Carolina in the Birmingham bowl. It would be great to have TJ back too! Home Coming!

South Florida: 247Sports reports former Texas offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert and former Texas offensive line coach Matt Mattox are expected to follow Charlie Strong to USF. Gilbert and Mattox both spent one year at Texas and previously worked together at Tulsa, Bowling Green and Eastern Illinois.

Here are some of the other USF coaches that may be available. I believe Taggart just hired USF's running back coach. USF's OL coach may also be available. I like their D.C. He is a former FL HS coach which could Help FL recruiting. Also like their QB coach Shawn King looks like he could help Donovan Williams like he helped Flowers.

To my knowledge, Weist has never worked with or for Edsall, nor has he either crossed paths with Benedict. So I don't expect to see him back as our OC. But I'd have no problem with it.

If it worked out with TJ maybe he can bring some of the staff and some of the USF recruits with them. Wouldn't that be nice! Randy has been out of the college recruiting business for over a year! Also wonder how much control RE would give TJ?

Tim Polask from ND St. Without even looking him up, I know his team can score a lot and if he can recruit talent to North Dakota I'm guessing he can sell ice to an Eskimo.
Lol. People have been saying that for years about Geno. Meghan Pattyson..."He could sell ice cubes to the Eskimos". ⛄

How about those lady Huskies? Shout out to them.

It just dawned on me, depending on how long Benedict is here, he may have had two humongous hiring decisions. The first is done with Edsall, and the second could be Geno. God, I wouldn't want to be the guy or gal to pick his successor...

Yikes!

He likely will not be selecting Geno's successor. Geno has earned the right to hand pick his own successor--the AD (whoever it is at the time) will likely have very little say in who is the next coach.

If that's the case, which I believe it is, that's got to be terrifying, no? Your potential legacy among UConn fans could be based off of a decision you didn't make?

.-.
Money's on Jen Rizzotti or Jamelle Elliott
Geno's gonna be at UCONN for another 8-10 years to obliterate every record on the books. Then Jen Rizzotti or Shea Ralph gets the job and Geno stays on as a recruiting consultant to keep the pipeline flowing.

Im going to guess its a good shot it will be an ex UConn player

Which got me thinking. It isn't that ridiculous to think that there is a chance that in 10 years, the four biggest sports at UConn could be coached by former UConn players who played under the original program legend/builder:

Ollie (Calhoun), Penders (Blaylock), Ralph (Auriema), Orlovsky (Edsall), and Donigan (Morrone).

That would be insane.

Happy New Year guys.
Back to football....
Here's another guy with UConno Football ties... Vinny Marino... UConn alumn and former assistant in Edsall's first run, currently OC at Davidson. Was on BCU staff last year.
Sounds like a guy that would at least be added to the staff one would think. Not really sure if he's a fit at OC. Biggest thing about him is his ties to UConn, which is what we need on our staff.

Wouldn't surprise me. He was @ the Press Conference... nice guy.

We have plenty of guys with UConn ties that bleed blue ... and we don't have any room to turn this Burton building into a Tammany Hall of hangers on.

NOTE also that Aaron Smith is UAlbany WR and Recruiting Coordinator was at the Presser and we have Lyndon Johnson who just served as Towson Recruiting Coordinator in this past year. Both have some of what we need immediately. Smith is a brilliant young coach. Then ... of course you have Wholley and Fogarty at Fordham. We need a handful of transfer and a handful of under the radar quick picks. Maybe some of the Prep kids.

Then ... look at the Detroit Lions staff that Edsall is leaving and see two young rising guys on the Defensive side. Steven Williams - Harvard grad - with nice resume to this point; and the Raich who has had an interesting career.
