Coombs to UConn

She looks like a true diamond in the rough, just waiting for the right coach(s) to come into her life and add a little "spit and polish" to her game. Having grown up with a basketball in her hand, she's still hungry, and will no doubt be easy to coach. I like that fact that she can rebound, turn and put the ball on the floor, see the court and throw good accurate passes down court to a hustling wing or guard for a fast break basket. And can do it NOW!!!!

BobbyJ, believe me, someone is going to grab her. She's only going to get better as she grows older and matures. She's a BIG, and as we all know, BIGS are in short supply, and long in demand. How nice would it be for the UConn faithful to get a verbal from a BIG (6-4+...any BIG) from the 2017 or 2018 class, that would remind everyone of Tina Charles? I hope someone in our program at least takes a look at this young lady. I agree with you.go get her.

European "BIGS" are not used to the physicality of the US game. Geno demands his "BIGS" to play tough defense, rebound, and set good hard screens and IMHO Reisingerova's game resembles that of a stretch 4 and nothing like that of a true post like Tina Charles. I will admit I have not seen that much tape on her, but in the games I have seen her biggest strength seems to be her range.

Not buying that MW would have to wait even 1 year for a starting spot at UCONN or ND. Not buying that she will demonstrate more "character" by coming to UCONN. Not buying that UCONN will struggle if MW doesn't come to UCONN.

Agreed as long as she is hitting her shots at a somewhat reasonable percentage........she is such a well rounded player that she can help the team in many ways without putting up huge offensive numbers

I doubt that I have watched more tape of Julia Reisingerova than you have and you are correct Tina Charles is a different/better/more dominant post player. Reisingerova's biggest strength is not her her range though, it is her mobility and her BB schooling. She reminds me of Kayla Pedersen in that she can occasionally step out and make the 3 but everything is good to great and she is fundamentally very sound. Watch the first sequence in the rising star tape and you will see something that is so fundamentally sweet. She sets the double screen shoulder to shoulder, waits until the defense comes through and gets a good piece of the defender, steps back, Calls for the ball, splashes the three, The entire time she did not acknowledge that the ball was only a few feet away instead concentrating on what she had to do. I've been hyping her for a while now, IMO she is the most skilled big in 2017 class.

I'd agree. I think she's roughly Geno's height, about 5'8" or 5'9". But that photo is 10 months old, so Mikayla may have grown. I don't know if she's taller than Bria Hartley, but I'm pretty sure she's taller than Crystal Dangerfield.
Why does Wikipedia insist that Geno is 6'1"?

AGREE. Her decision to go somewhere other than UCONN would not be due to lack of character. Players decisions are based on their own priorities and what their feel/perception of a program. If MW chose somewhere other than UCONN it would be mean that an NC and opportunity to gain the most improvement in her game for the next level were not as important as other factors. Read what Coombs said about the relationship she developed with the coaches at UCONN being a big part of her decision. It doesn't matter what future players commit to any other program, UCONN will continue to dominate!

From everything I've read, Megan Walker is a person of very high character. That doesn't mean that she will come to UConn, however. In terms of playing time, Megan is good enough to get major minutes as a freshman. She may not start, but even the great Breanna Stewart, Maya Moore, and Diana Taurasi didn't start until injuries or graduation gave them the chance. Megan will be one heck of a player.

That must have been written by Bria Hartley. ;)

I don't see Geno's height listed in his bio.
Google "Geno Auriemma." Wikipedia will be on the left side of the page while on the right side you will see many photos of THE MAN:below the pics you will see his height listed.

I think Google might be pulling info from famousheights.net, which lists Geno's height at 6' 0.75".

Got it. Thanks. That's not on Wikipedia per se, but I agree that Geno has never been 6'1".

Sounds like a great kid. Looking forward to seeing her play at UCONN. Good job by Geno and staff.

Just curious: Is her surname pronounced as "Kohms," or "Kooms?"
