Completely inept in every phase

Progress at glacial speed.
So...I love the UConn daily that Silver puts out and I think he has great insight and has been a nice contributor to this board. But...he made a comment this week that Edsall needs “several years” to get his players.

So this is year 3...how long does he need? Several years beyond year 3? I know RE is methodical and deliberate, but several more years is ridiculous.

Krajewski is the ANSWER. Nite nite. Note the all caps

He might not be the answer but you will never know if you don't ask the question. Krajewski has worked his butt off and deserves a chance to put the team in a position to score and not just hand off the ball during mop up time. I have a “gut feeling” that if he gets a chance he would do well.

The problem is I was lead to believe the team was really really young last year. So if we are very very young this year. Does that mean we were very very very young last year?
I mean yes... we have 12 total seniors, maybe 7 that play on a good day. Yet again the key is to improve every year, which I believe we will. We arnt going to jump up to be bowl eligible in a year which seems to be an expectation of some people on here.

Remember BY... it’s not UConn being bad that’s the problem... the problem is that @whaler11 point this out weeks ago.

The defense needed the most attention and has demonstrably and statistically improved. The offense has not but is more a product of QB development. We obviously have a ways to go. After Zerigotis’s wild flip was pick-sixed, an IU fan sitting behind me said” that guy thinks he’s Baker Mayfield only without the accuracy and the talent.”

I agree that the defense is better. And, UConn is bringing in better talent, but it is still young. Unfortunately, what is holding up the rebuilding process is QB development.

Some posters think UConn should have adjusted the offensive game plan during the game. The problem wasn’t the plan, it was primarily QB execution. Receivers were open, but Zergiotis either wasn’t accurate or rushed. Indiana stacked the box and pushed the pocket and dared Zergiotis to pass or run.

Indiana was able to plan for Zergiotis and Illinois was not and it showed.

Let this sink in, we let up 49 points and 550 yards against URI! Last year, the lowest offensive output against UConn was 444 by UMass and second lowest was 516 yards against Temple. So far this season, we have 3 games with fewer yards allowed than our lowest total allowed from last year. You have to admit the defense is better this year than last. The players are better and the coaching is better. Heck, if UConn had any kind of offense against Indiana, they would have let up fewer points and yards.

the defense is better - i said all off season the defense would be better and the offense would be much worse.

it’s still ridiculous to compare stats between ucf and bsu and wagner and illinois.

indiana got everything they wanted all day yesterday. they played a backup and played at a snail’s pace - they didnt bother to test the secondary down the field because they could win by 35 without taking a semblance of a risk because uconn had almost no chance to score barring a miracle.

watching uconn stand at the line for 20 seconds a play on offense is tremendous. anything to not actually try and compete.

So the defense has gone from the worst ever, to mildly bad. Okay, that is progress.

I tried to listen - after the Pick-6 I gave up and switched over to the Wisconsin/Michigan game.

I think people forget that Pindell was 32nd in the NATION in rushing yards as well as passing for 2000 yards and a 123 passer rating. Nobody on the roster will be as good as he was anytime soon.

My thing is changing offensive coordinates every year hurts any offense and when you throw in somebody who has never done it you are bound to have issues to say the least.
The offense needs to spread it out and not be afraid to do something different instead of just running and throwing short passes where the teams can play ten yards in a box all game long.

The ship was run aground before HCRE. He’s made repairs, but the ship will never be as good as it was 10 years ago.

I don’t get the qb argument. They all stink although Zergiotis looked impressive in the Illinois game. We stunk all over the field. I did not see one positive other than we would’ve lost by more last year. Let’s take our spanking against UCF and try to get better. I’d be okay with 3 wins this season. Thrilled with 4 wins.

Kind of silly to argue if our D sucks or our D REALLY sucks.

It still sucks.
The D stinks it’s bend don’t break, although it’s much better than last year by a million miles. Our O line is a huge disappointment after many believed this would be our strength. We can’t run the ball at all behind their lack of push and our QB gets happy feet because they don’t protect very well. I guess some of us got way too hopeful after the Illinois game. We still stink. We just stink less.

It's tough to blame the offensive line. There have created some holes and time to pass. They are the best unit on the offense.

None of runners ever seem to break a tackle and rarely make anyone miss. The number one quality of a good running back is to make the first tackler miss. By that standard our backs are substandard.

Our receivers rarely get any separation. So even with time to pass the passing game is substandard as well.

I don’t know... I saw a lot of open receivers today.
This. If Z makes his throws we are all feeling a lot better this week. Better about the players, better about the coaches, better about our prospects. I'm not saying we win, but we definitely compete.

Remember this team is @45% RS or true freshman. They are going to struggle against a good team. Hopefully not as bad as this weekend, but they definitely will struggle.

The jury is out on Z. Which kid is he, the one who looked solid but young against Illinois or over his head against Indiana? We won't learn much next week. (For those of you are a little down on the team, you might want to take next weekend off. Maybe go for a walk on the beach with the wife or something. It isn't going to be pretty.)

Last year the defense would have given up 60 points that's the difference.

I thought this was a step back but when you have bad/ no talent it just takes time to turn the ship. Case in point. Shiano at Rutgers had really lousy years during his first 4 seasons then went 7-4, 9-2. Sadly we were Rutgers level talent under the Bobster.

One other note here. Where are all the folks who wanted to start a freshman quarterback and let him take his lumps?

My prediction for 2 wins this year is starting to look good. We will know more after 10/5.
