Colorado State is expected to make UConn coach Jim Mora the school’s next head coach.

I sure hope Mora doesn’t make a disrespectful statement about taking UConn as far as he possibly can, like Edsal did when he left. I think the realistic goal for UConn is to consistently be among the top G5 FB teams. Uconn had a very good year but I still don’t think they were at the level of teams like JMU, Memphis or USF, mainly because UConn’s defense was just not good. We’ll see how much more he can do at Colorado State.
Mora is a class act and he understands the consequences of his words. He is not going to throw any shade our way.

The 9 wins have been great, but what has most impressed me with Mora is that every single time a kid got hurt -- major player, role player, twisted ankle or big injury -- Mora went out with the training staff to look after the kid. Tells you something about Jim Mora the leader and the man.

He's not a perfect coach but he's been an advocate for our players and our program and I suspect he will continue to be in the ways that he can.

They are a good sized portion of the basket team's fan base who believe that our football pursuits will be detrimental to the basketball program's success and will end their beloved rivalries with Providence, Seton Hall, wtc.
This is so far from the truth. August West is really the only one who thinks that and his brain is melted.

they must be referring to rejoining the AAC or joining the PAC....they cant be referring to the ACC/BIG12. but it's even dumber of a football fan to think joining the AAC/PAC would help basketball, than it is dumb of a bball fan to prefer the BE to the ACC/BIG12.

Just saying Jim Mora won with Edsall recuits. Cam Edwards, Jackson Mitchell, Jelani Stafford, Durante Jones, most of the very good OLineman... Our defense fell apart this year without the Edsall guys.

Mora hit on Fagnano and Bell, I will give him those.
So what? Edsall didn't win with Edsall recruits.

I wonder if he poaches Nuiheisel from UCLA for OC like he tried this year.

With mostly Calhoun recruits.

weird how they keep forgetting that too.
Weird you and whomever supports your position forget KO's commitment to the school as a student athlete as well as coach as well as what he does even now in this state...

let it go... appreciate what was good...

when you oppose the guy completely like that it says a lot about you and whomever else feels the same sentiment... that attitude will do nothing for the UConn brand but limit it... folks aren't stupid.. they resent this assessment since it's long gone now...

Ignore the senior/junior:

This makes it make sense. I personally think that his name should have been connected to bigger programs.

Colorado State doesn't make much sense until you see the relationship.

A friendly AD is a huge plus for any head coach, a good relationship with the AD or even deputy AD will shield the coach from loud donors, boosters and even the BOT.

All of the above can eat away at a coaches focus.

A good relationship will allow the coach leverage to make their choices and decisions about a lot of things, like scheduling, NIL, travel and so much more.

I don't know much, none of us do, about the type of relationship Mora had with Benedict and University staff, but this move now makes a ton of sense.

Mora left for more control.

Randy Edsall coached in the Fiesta Bowl and bolted for an ACC program
Jim Mora is bolting before the Whatever Bowl for a lousy program in a G6 conference
Success is relative I guess

UConn rebounded but I have a feeling Mora knows he was pretty good and very lucky. If he was excellent he would know he could replenish the roster by recruiting and portalling and continue to build the program. He may know he was extremely fortunate by landing a few exceptional pieces and that this is his high-water mark. The iron will never be this hot again. If he's settling for a program currently ranked much closer to UMass than UConn, then I don't think he has much faith in himself to be anything mora. This makes the pill a little easier to swallow.

A lot of posts saying this is THE reason he's leaving. If you've heard it from him, let us know. Otherwise I'm thinking it's a combination of the seven or eight factors I've see tossed around in here; some football, some lifestyle.
Don't be mad he's leaving before the bowl; i have no doubt that DB said "go if you're going, i need to get started on replacing you". My only worry is how the players found out... hope it wasn't twitter.

Or it's just a small world. He didn't have a friendly AD here?

Mora left because the son of DC that his Dad hired is a Deputy AD at CSU? Really?

He was one of the loudest on this forum, but there are still quite a few basketball fans (not on the boneyard) who think this way.
Some yes. But I think the post that started this suggested that somehow, UConn joining the new Pac for all sports would be anything but an unmitigated disaster for all sports except maybe football (not clearly an upgrade there either). Games would start no earlier than 9:00 PM. Some would be at 11:00 PM. The travel would be untenable for non-revenue sports. The quality of opponents would be horrifically bad. That league sucks.

I think 99% of "basketball fans" would gladly accept a P4 offer if it came. Not that it matters what we think anyway, the school would bolt the Big East at the earliest opportunity. There has been no such opportunity.

Those that refer to UConn as a basketball school
IU was still referred to as a bball school until this year. if UConn football is ranked #2 and makes back to back CFPs then we'll can stop calling it a bball school, deal?

These things are never clean: as distasteful as it is in a perfect world, you can find hundreds of examples of coaches parting the way edsall did.

Now that we're in the NIL era, I'd think players totally get this is a business. I'd imagine a coupla Huskies will be headed to Fort Collins as is their right.

Which reminds me: Pryce Yates is the perfect cautionary tale for "the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence." I'm sorry it didn't work out for him at UNC and that his injury turned out to be a career-ender.. But I can't help thinking the defense might have been a little better had he stuck around.

Indiana is still a basketball school despite being #2 in football.

That mindset is exactly what keeps UConn out of the P4. Big East = Death.
football and bball fans are united in the desire to join a P4 but if you think AAC/PAC is better for the athletic program than BE/Indy we can argue until the sun goes down and then it's handbags at dawn.

Why not. I just laid out my reasons as to why the coach/ad relationship matter.

That's the only thing that makes sense in a senseless move.

There's no mention of any bigger programs throwing lots of money to Mora.

That's how I see it and I'm sticking with it.

Best wishes to JMJ as he heads out to that current coaching graveyard.
He likes the Rockies, likes being in a conference. Period.
