Colorado State is expected to make UConn coach Jim Mora the school’s next head coach.

Is it? Have new facilities and new stadium built in 2017. In a conference so a path to CFP. There is support for the football team averaging 33k fans a game. Football would be the number 1 sport compared to number 3 at UConn.
Ignoring the personal aspect that Mora has been very open about wanting in a move, their situation is significantly better than UConn. He's walking into a situation where they'll be one of the favorites for the G6 playoff spot every year, versus a job at UConn where the playoffs are never a realistic possibility
Perhaps my frustration here, our frustration possibly, is brought on by considering that Colorado State is a more appealing job than UConn. That's a gut punch. We sometimes fancy our independence as a badge of virtue, elevating us above the G5 in terms of prestige. But that is probably illusory.

This is a real bummer hearing this news this morning. I thought we had a couple more years with Jim as head coach. Concerns immediately went to the state of the team for the bowl game. Will everyone still play? I'm glad Coach Sammis is going to stay and lead the team. Looking to next season how quickly do we get a staff together at this point to evaluate and recruit talent from the portal. We obviously are going to need big portal additions. We stand to lose all recruits I would assume and so have to start from scratch there. How many of the assistants follow Jim Mora to Colorado St? There is a lot of pressure on AD Dave to get this right now that Mora has brought us back from the dead. He made a great decision hiring Mora. Lets hope he gets 2 in a row.

A buddy of mine is telling me Dave isn’t surprised and we have a candidate pool ready to go. This will move fast if we don’t strike out. He has a good source.
AD Dave is the man. He has given us every reason to trust him to make the right hire. I'm honestly excited, in the portal era we can easily put together another winner next year

It's more appealing because it's closer to home. That's it. That's the extent of it. The man was still renting his abode here, a half-decade into being here! That should tell you what you need to know.

If UConn was in the Rockies, we aren't having this conversation...

It’s sad to see a guy who could have built a lasting legacy throw it away, but that’s why it takes a special person to become more than an opportunist. Jim appeared special, but apparently isn’t.
Thems the breaks. Welcome to 2025. This has really been the standard procedure for the last 20 years

Yes. He has a proven track record. Hell no
This is UConn. Think outside the box w upside. Anyone with a proven track record who will accept this job is most likely already stale.

Based on? I've known several people who lived there and they reported the opposite. Cow town, flat, kind of hick-y. Non-descript.
I've known several people who are from there and they love it so much they never left or they moved back. It's always on the lists of best places to live in the country.

This was a lifestyle decision NOT a football decision. I didn't think he would go to west coast but the guy loves the mountains. Fort Collins is prefect for him.

Colorado State is also a low expectation job. So he he won't be under much pressure. This looks like a soft retirement.

Everybody has a dream job....
I got this wrong. Felt he was happy building something and had all the money he requires.
I think DB will have to pull a rabbit out of a hat to get someone to come here after our coach leaves because he sees a better future at CSU.

Maybe Brian Kelly? He’s from Everett, MA and graduated from Assumption College. He’s 64 years old and I doubt any Power 4 team would touch him now.

Agree. Colorado State. I don’t get it

Heard about it last night and penned initial thoughts. This morning, I scrolled through 12 pages and here are some ancillary thoughts.

Regarding his possible desire to get closer to his home in Idaho. It's possible. But, unlikely.

If it's skiing, then 100%. ( Yes, I know it's a joke(ish). New England is bad. Really bad. And Colo is much better.

On both counts, assuming 2026 wasn't a horror show at UConn, waiting until next year might have put him in a better position. It's only a matter of time that either Colorado drops the axe on the Sanders hype show or Prime simply quits. Or, in what would actually be a great move for JM, step in at Utah after Whittingham retires. (I live in Utah now and the speculation is rampant). The skiing in Utah is better than Colorado. Not as significant as New England vs Colorado, but yes, it's better.

Given his age, none of these make any sense other than close to home and family.

Mora was never getting a P5 job, so we can stop with the Cal/Stanford nonsense. He’s in his mid-60s and hasn’t coached a power conference team in forever. Yes, he worked miracles for us, but to the rest of the country we are still UConn football. Anyone who isn’t an UConn fan will tell you we are only 9-3 because we play an easy schedule.

I don’t think CSU is an upgrade but as others have mentioned it’s closer to home and he’s now in a conference which may help with stability. I always thought he was going to go back west, given the fact he was in Idaho and not coaching at all when Benedict made the call. Going from Washington/California/Idaho to Storrs is definitely a cultural shock.

Coach Mora is a not only a football coach, but a leader. He completely turned this program around and we now have momentum for the first time since what, 2009/2010? He was brought in to stabilize the program, and I think we can all agree he did a fantastic job and probably exceeded all of our expectations. It was great having him here and I wish him nothing but success at CSU.

As for our next hire - just like with Coach Mora - we need a leader and not just an X’s and O’s guy. Don’t make the mistake of hiring some big shot Coordinator over a guy with head coaching experience who has proven results. If that means we need to look at a coach from FCS , then we should consider that. We need someone who knows how to win or who will embrace what Mora has done in terms of building a program.
CSU is P5

Hiring Randy Edsall second time was a good decision? The contract had those weird incentive clauses. Hiring him was done because he was chea

I’m disappointed that Mora is not coaching in the Bowl game. So much for Brotherhood. Anyone who wants to portal now may not play in the bowl game. I’m getting pissed. You get paid to coach for the entire season. Even RE coached in the bowl.
He should be off payroll, insurance and any other benefits and allowances he receives as of today.
