Be grateful for a guy like Hurley who turned down jobs that most would kill for. Thats a man who knows his mission and purpose, and desires to create a legacy that endures beyond the next negotiation cycle. As for Mora, thanks for doing the job you got paid to do, and no, you won’t be remembered other than as a stepping stone among others to something greater.

Hurley is also from the Northeast. There is something to be said for being near the people you love.

The difference between Hurley and Mora though is that Hurley gets pretty much everything he wants when it comes to resources and football gets to scrape the bottom of the barrell for scraps. The model isn't sustainable at this level. The school and state either need to get behind all sports in the AD or continue to make basketball the king of the castle and never get the big boy money.

I wonder if Hurley would still be here if 1 reporter showed up to an availability and asked 2 questions the week of a big game early in his tenure like was done to Mora before the Duke game.

All this talk about wanting to be in Sun Valley and retirement/semi-retirement.

If he wanted to be in Sun Valley and is looking at retirement he should've retired and moved to Sun Valley.

A head college football coach especially at a new job isn't a semi-retirment kind of job.

Then there are some posters talking about him leaving because Fagnano and Skyler Bell are moving on or that he felt like he doesn't get the same level of attention as Dan Hurley and Geno Auriemma, the two biggest names in college basketball.

A lot of reaching in this thread.

This brings several things into focus for me (admittedly I'm a slow processor)

1. A meaningful change in UConn FB's CR status will not happen until a period of sustained success intersects with a period of real CR upheaval (i.e. next implosion of the ACC). Until then the bust phase of the boom/bust cycle will result in no worse a situation than we have experienced the decade preceding Mora's tenure. Admittedly that's pretty bad, and it will suck to be a fan, but what else is new?

2. To my mind the greatest risk is a fall of NIL money in-flow. CFB programs can now buy athletes, which has changed the dynamic in a big way. See the rebirth of UConn and Indiana leading the BiG among others as examples. If you have the money it is far easier to solve the Jimmies and Joes problem than in the past particularly if you are not one of the traditional storied powerhouse programs. I think Mora was great asset in this area. Hope DB has his eye on candidates who can attract support as effectively HCJM. It would be really bad lose a lot of ground in this area.

3. At 62 years old the possibilities for a UConn conference invite in my lifetime appear to hinge solely on the changes many are pointing to in the early 2030's. I expect to be retiring at that time. Hope it works out because I'll have the time to travel to exciting, meaningful conference matchups. Can't see myself doing that for the likes of Delaware or Wyoming.

All that being said thanks and all the best to Coach Mora. Hope we can do as well with the next hire.

I’m disappointed that Mora is not coaching in the Bowl game. So much for Brotherhood. Anyone who wants to portal now may not play in the bowl game. I’m getting pissed. You get paid to coach for the entire season. Even RE coached in the bowl.
Head coaching is a job. He now has to get prepared for his next job - recruiting and working on transfer portal, next man up

Now that I've allowed myself 12 minutes to process this:

Mora leaving for Colorado State instead of a "better opportunity" is a good thing for us. It means we didn't lose on money, conference, opportunity, potential, etc. We lost because this isn't "home" for him. I respect that. Thank you Coach Mora for making this a solid football destination again.

Now that I can safely assume all those things above, I can also assume that Benedict was not surprised by it, and is likely well prepared for it. Fingers crossed, the next coach will do as well or better.

Pride. Heart. UCONN!

I understand it's a business and he probably wants to be closer to family and friends, but this pisses me off. 4 years of steady upward momentum is probably going to get derailed because the school and state refuse to acknowledge that football is king every where in the country but CT.

Extremely grateful for the work that JM did w/ UConn Football- bringing us out of the gutter and making us a respectable program. Figured we'd lose him this cycle to a P4 (Stanford, Cal, UW) but I am completely blindsided in regards to CSU.

This next hire, (obviously) is crucial.

a lot of people won't be happy until we're Seton Hall State U.
