2026 Recruiting: Colben Landrew Official Visit (10/3)

As I recall Maryland weren't even all that deep, but they had a starting five that rivaled a lot of champions (also, no shame in losing to the team that wins it all).
UConn has a history of playing tough but losing to the eventual NC Champs. That MD team. The Ray Allen team losing to the one team that I felt played their style, but better than they did, UCLA team. I believe it was Tius Edney who went end-to-end in something like 4.x seconds where he completed an unthinkable layup to advance and face our Huskies. If they had lost, I think that could have been NC #1 for us. We lost to UF last year. Lost to Dook at least once during one of their NC runs. Of course we returned the favor twice, our first NC and the Emeka/Ben NC as well. I'm sure others can chime in with a bunch of other times we lost to the eventual champions, much the result of some very tough and suspect seedlings.

Based on everything I've read about him, he's been on a meteoric trajectory since focusing solely on hoops after being a 2 sport (BB & FB) elite athlete. This type of recruit often turns out better than some who were ranked in the top 20 but seemed to hang around that initial ranking even though their game hasn't seemed to improve much.

Regardless of Colben's ranking, it's evident that the staff has zeroed in on him, seeing something special and great program fit. His shot and all around game continues to improve. And his rep as a call-upon lockdown defender has me sold on him.

I'm not sure I would call it a meteoric trajectory. He went from about 90 a year ago in the composite to 24 or so after his great hs season. He's been a well known ball player for a while.

So going from around 90 to as high as 16 on Rivals top 100 isn't a meteoric trajectory?!?!

I've been following recruiting for decades, used to visit one of the elite summer camps and would even interview UConn recruits back-in-the-day. So seeing Landrew move into the top 20 from where he started is quite impressive. How many other 2026 recruits have moved up like he has?

What he's accomplished this year is impressive.

I don't really consider low to high 4* meteoric. It's semantics--think what you want. Every year has players that go from unranked to blowing up EYBL. Bryson Howard comes to mind.

I hate Zanetto

Zanetto!

I agree, I'd call that pretty meteoric, but I guess that's semantics. Going from barely top 100 to top 20 is pretty impressive, especially as he's got a chance to still go higher.

Its only meteoric if he a duke, Kentucky or Kansas commit

He got outed a while ago but its more fun to pretend not to know who he is. You can easily google him and find out
He's also been outed about 3 different times, as completely different people. So it's hard to say which one is true, though I'm sure one of them is
