2026 Recruiting: Colben Landrew Official Visit (10/3)

First, thanks for sharing that graphic. I didn't realize his overall fg% was last in the league and definitely adds some context.

I guess I would just define a "bust" differently. A bust to me is a guy who looks like he has no business in the league, one that hardly if ever shows flashes. Or a guy who based on how he performs should have been drafted significantly lower. Anthony Bennett is a good example of the former, Darko of the latter. I don't think Hawkins belongs in the first group since he has dropped 20+ points 13 times and 30+ twice in his career thus far, and has had stretches of efficient play. I don't think he belongs in the latter because he was drafted 14th, the end of the lottery can be a crapshoot and I do think he will stick around in the league.
Big year for him - needs to show something or likely headed towards bust territory. It doesn't help that he went to the true armpit of the NBA in NO. They're kinda right there with Charlotte in terms of where you don't want to land.

Best case may be that he's sent somewhere that can help redirect him a bit.

This guy isn’t a 4. Idk why it’s so hard for people to understand that.
We can agree that guards on Uconn are expected to rebound (even 4-5 avg.) One or two more and he contributes just like a 4 even though not the protype. As pointed out above we had Tyrese and Adrien who were as functional rebounding as 4's (or maybe a tough 3) if this makes sense.
How would you compare his speed to Castle?

Charlotte is under new management so NO and Sacramento are the new pits.

Really great point. The players are equally important and in most cases, coming from places where UConn has massive impact on their development.

There is simply more pageantry with HS recruiting. The courtship is very different. The announcement is staged. With the portal, it’s a 30 day compact window that floods with names and it’s during the best time of year to be focusing on the games. It’s like speed dating versus a serenade.

But once the kid is here it really shouldn’t feel any different. They’re just as important.
Pageantry. That is an excellent word for the process.

Jordan Hawkins total FGA% that year.

50.7% from the above the break 3.
- 22% higher than the average D1 player

11% from midrange 2s
- 2% lower than the average D1 player

10% from in the paint
- 9% lower than the average D1 player

15.5% at the the rim
- 14.6% lower than the average D1 player

Let’s look at Solo for fun.

53.6% from above the break 3.
- 24% higher than the average D1 player

5% from midrange 2s
- 6% lower than the average D1 player

12% from in the paint
- 7% lower than the average D1 player

20% at the rim
- 11% lower than the average D1 player

Almost like these things are a trend or something

Here’s some pretty visual charts to go with it.
If this against all d1 players isn’t it skewed how about shooting guards or at least non centers

Agreed. I know I said going somewhere he can get minutes would help, but even going to a franchise run well from the top down would probably be of benefit to him. Not sure what team that would be nowadays, but a team like the Spurs 10-15 years ago would be perfect for him. A place he can just go be a role player on a damn good team and solidify himself as a contributor in the league.

Funny you mention Charlotte. I was a Lakers fan when I was little, got annoyed by the Kobe and Shaq feud, and saw this team in NBA Live 2004 named the Charlotte Bobcats. They didn't have a roster yet, so they had a bunch of dudes with minimal stats named "Point Guard" "Power Forward" etc. Long story short, I had fun playing with the team because they were by far the worst team in the game and winning was a real challenge. That turned me into a fan, then they drafted Okafor which solidified my rooting interest in the team....

...Probably why I don't follow the NBA much anymore. One of the worst run franchises in all of sports lmao

Not sure how legit this info is, but siting Trilly (info in comments). Looks like agent is pro-UConn, which of all the constituents is the one you want on your side. Not sure why the HS coach has any weight.

That is accurate. He also said he doesn't know what the kid wants, which I found really funny.

I would think the agent wants the cash, which I'm assuming isn't UConn. If you can get UConn and the most cash that should be a no-brainer.

But Colben should do what he wants.

So who does the coach want and who do the parents want?
It’s in the tweet:

HS Coach - Ville
Agent - UConn
Fam - Miss St

Per Trilly. I'd say it's a good sign.

Kid would be nuts to go to Miss St. Not sure why the HS coach would have much clout. Agent is paid to make these kind of decisions.

I always wondered, why would you schedule an announcement if you didn't know already which school you were going to choose? It's not like you need to know next week. You could wait until the signing period in November if you weren't sure yet. So not buying that Landrew doesn't know where he wants to go yet.

Yeah, I don't know who these random twitter users are that know the specific thoughts of each party.

But your point is very valid, I think it's basically inconceivable that he hasn't decided if he's scheduled his announcement.

Hard to know - the Twitter guy seems to be getting his info from Trilly, only the messenger. I’m sure there is some truth to the chatter, but with you that the kid probably knows what he’s doing. I’d say if true and the agent is pro-UConn, it’s a good sign.

I’m certainly not going to Miss St or the school my HS coach wants me to go to unless that guy is my dad. Have we ever heard of a kid going somewhere because his HS coach was pushing it?
