Colben Landrew commits to UConn

“The reason I chose UConn was, after watching Danny Hurley’s practice, I saw how he was just so intense and how competitive he was with his team, How he was pushing his team every day, and don’t let them slack up. So I felt like ultimately I need that going into the future.”

What was UConn's pitch to him? "Just to come in and let me rock. Playing with the ball, playing off the ball, coming off screens, shooting the ball, everything; just being a big wing and a big guard."

Fantastic, think he’ll take over at the 3 next year if Mullins is off to the league. Otherwise he’ll be a great 6th man that can play the 2-4 spots immediately.

It’s hard to find wings with his combination of size, motor, and scoring ability. I trust us to get the most out of his physical potential on defense in time as well.

Was really hoping to add Mingo to this class. They play different positions, don't see why it couldn't happen. Unless it's a money thing.
It can still happen. It might take a very successful season where UConn has three kids go in the first round to clear minutes. Kids like Mingo will commonly wait until the spring to commit to see how rosters will shake out for the coming season.

I've seen this kid listed at 6'6 and even 6'5, he's gotta be 6'6 barefoot. Caron may be the best comparison out of our former players in terms of game and size. Not saying he'll be as good as Caron but I have a good feeling about this kid. Great build, ball skills, shot maker with a nice three point shot, great hands, good rebounder, football mentality, can play guard and forward.

Mostly just playing time squeeze. Seems like we’re expecting heavy retention. Demary and Ball could be back at the guards, Mullins isn’t guaranteed to be one and done, Furphy projects to step into the rotation next year, Ross and Stewart will be seniors. That’s all before we add any impact guard/wings in the portal, or mention County. Think we’re prioritizing retention at this point.

I've worn a UConn sweatshirt or long sleeve T-shirt since Saturday, but not today, as I head out from home and into public Louisville.

My UConn presence generally gets very good response from UL, UK, and IU fans, but today's decision has been in local media as the Cardinal's top target. I think Kelsey's doing a good job, and fans locally will be disappointed. I can be very happy for UConn with a lower profile around town.

It is also about roster flexibility. It is easier to see what next year's team needs as a "final piece" after the season than it is right now. This Aprol they realized they were missing the backup PG and created "the Adams situation." By leaving an open slot (should they lose a player outside of the seniors) they can adjust then -- with more complete knowledge of what Ross, Furphy, and others can provide next year.

The who offered who more money angle to the least interesting angle imaginable. Plus, none of you nitwits actually know who got what from who, so stop. We’re not out there offering Applebees coupons to recruits.

Also, I love this pickup. He seems like the kind of big guard who has killed us over the past 20 years. If a 6’6” 230 pound guard has to run over a 6’1” 180 pound guard, I would prefer that we have the former.

So excited about this kid coming to Storrs. I feel like he's exactly the kind of physical presence that will really stand out and help us compete. Just a great fit for the program. Those quotes about unselfish play, guarding 1-4 and taking contact in the paint are music to my ears.
