Minnesota has habitually been a horrible defensive team over the past few years, which is precisely the type of team that UNC can do well against.

It might come down to those two games in Myrtle Beach against Washington and Grambling, which as far as I can tell won't even be televised.

Rutgers beat Virginia yesterday, 52-43, and the reasons for optimism are growing at the State University of New Jersey.
Now at 8-2, Rutgers' only remaining challenging OOC opponents are Seton Hall and Princeton.
At this point, Rutgers looks like perhaps the 5th-best team in the Big Ten.

Meanwhile, North Carolina leads Presbyterian by 21 at the half.

It is becoming increasingly clear that Geno is the overwhelming favorite to get to 1,099 first. Stanford, with 4 losses already and having to play 6 tough road games (Cal, USC, UCLA, Ore, OSU, ASU) and 3 tough home games (UCLA, Tn, ASU), will be doing extremely well to rack up 25 wins. Meanwhile Geno has a great shot at 38. If Geno ends the year within 8 of Tara, he is likely to blow past her next year--early the following year at the latest.

So Hatchell can beat Geno to 1000. If NC keeps winning, her 1000th will come on the afternoon of the 19th, while Geno's won't come until the evening.

For whatever reason, UNC has accepted mediocrity in their once great WBB program, allowing Hatchell to plod towards 1000 wins against a continuous parade of cupcakes, knowing that the team will get hammered once they face the ACC schedule. Since Hatchell will achieve the 1000 win milestone this season, I would hope that the UNC administration finds a way to let her gracefully retire once the season ends.

While I agree with the idea that the program has regressed, playing against a continuous parade of cupcakes OOC has been standard modus operandi in Chapel Hill for years and years. Every coach has their methods, and that has always been hers. A fellow on the RU board has always called it the annual "tour of the little sisters".

There was a time, many years ago, when UNC would play UConn, among others, during their OOC schedule.

Welp... since that is one coach that McCallie has a winning record against..... I would hope they let her stay as long as she wants :p Plus the longer she stays... the greater chance that Charlotte Smith either stays at Elon...or moves up the ladder to another program besides UNC.

I'll go on record and say Washington (even with current depleted roster) will win vs UNC. PAC12 will have a good showing and push Hatchell's milestone out by one. You heard it here first! :)

I can see this game going either way. Both teams are very inconsistent. Washington has shown life in beating BYU and Creighton, but just got creamed by Boise State last week. UNC has wins over Colorado and Minnesota, but losses to Hampton and South Alabama.

Although this game will be on a neutral court, it's a lot closer to home for UNC and the time change might be a factor for the Other Huskies. The 1:00 pm start time will feel like 10:00 am for the left-coasters.
 
It is incredible to think of the women's coaches ready to hit 1000 amazing careers the game has given them and much they have given the game

With each successive win by Rutgers, I become more optimistic about Stringer's chances of reaching 1,000 this year.

If they can get by Houston on Saturday, Rutgers will be 11-2 heading into Big Ten play.

At this point I strongly believe they are top 5 in their conference, and will be competing with Michigan and Iowa for #3 in the Big Ten.

Ten or eleven wins in conference is looking very doable for Rutgers, and that would put C-Viv just 1 or 2 postseason wins away from 1,000.
